When a circular tube with uniform heat generation within the wall was placed in a cross flow, heat flows by conduction in the circumferential direction due to the asymmetric nature of the fluid flow around the perimeter of the circular tube The circumferential heat flow affects the wall temperature distribution to such an extent that. in some cases, significantly different results may be obtained for geometrically similar surfaces. In the present investigation, the effect of circumferential wall heat conduction is investigated for forced convection around circular tube in cross flow of air and water Two-dimensional temperature distribution $T_w(r,{\theta})$ is calculated through the numerical analysis. The difference between one-dimensional and two-dimensional solutions is demonstrated on the graph of local heat transfer coefficients. It is observed that the effect of working fluid is very remarkable.

Longitudinal heat conduction is known to be an important factor in the design of a printed circuit heat exchanger(PCHE) for cryogenic applications. Parasitic heat conduction through the heat exchanger frame needs to be considered because it is known to decrease the effectiveness of the heat exchanger. In this paper, a conjugate heat transfer problem in a simple counter-flow PCHE is analyzed by a computational fluid dynamics simulation. The effect of longitudinal conduction in a straight channel is compared with the theoretical effectiveness-NTU relationship that assumes a "thin" heat exchanger frame. The calculation results suggest that the theoretical model is valid in the present calculation conditions where NTU is < 13.
This paper introduced about characteristics on the non-steady heat transfer of STS 304 hollow cylinder, In the non-steady state, the specific heat and conductivity are depended on the temperature variations, and these properties affect to the governing equation on heat conduction. But the most of numerical analysis on heat conduction is assumed to constant properties which is conductivity and specific heat. Assuming that conduction is assumed to constant properties which is conductivity and specific heat. Assuming that the properties are reacted sensitively, the numerical results can have the difference of between constant properties with non-constant properties. The main parameters are specific heat and conductivity. The temperature distributions of the STS 304 hollow cylinder became in steady state after 4 minutes in case of the constant properties. As the conductivity in varied with temperature, the temperature distributions became in steady state after 15 minutes. Therefore, a numerical analysis of the non steady state heat transfer will has to apply that conductivity varied with temperature.

A conjugate conduction-convection analysis has been made for a plate fin which exchanges heat with its fluid environment by forced convection. The analysis is based on a one- dimensional model for the plate fin whereby the transient heat conduction equation for the fin is solved simultaneously with the conservation equations for mass, momentum, and energy in the fluid boundary layer adjacent to the fin. The forced convection heat transfer coefficient is not specified in advance but is one the results of the numerical solutions. Numerical results of the overall heat transfer rate, the local heat transfer coefficient, the local heat flux, the fin efficiency and the fin surface temperature distribution for Pr=0.7 are presented for a wide range of operating conditions.

A modeling technique for the 2-way coupling of heat transfer and conduction currents has been performed to inspire a combined analytical simulation. The 3-D finite element method is used to solve steady conduction currents and heat generation in an aluminum film deposited on a silicon substrate. The model investigates the temperature in the device after the current is applied. The conservation equation of energy, the Maxwell equations for conduction currents, the unsteady state heat transfer equation and the Fourier's law for heat transfer are implemented as a bidirectionally coupled problem. It is found that the strongly coupled temperature and time dependent heat equations give a reasonable results and an explicit solving technique.

An efficient method to predict the convection heat transfer coefficients on the top surface of the engine piston is proposed. The method is based on the inverse method of the thermal conduction problem and uses a numerical optimization technique. In the method, the heat transfer coefficients are numerically obtained so that the difference between analyzed temperatures from the finite element method and measured temperatures is minimized. The method can be effectively used to analyze the temperature distribution of engine pistons in case when application of prescribed-temperature boundary condition is not reasonable because of insufficient number of measured temperatures. A hollow sphere problem with an analytic solution is taken as a simple example and accuracy and efficiency is demonstrated. The method is applied to a practical large liquid petroleum gas(LPG) engine piston and the heat transfer coefficients on the top surface of the piston is successfully calculated. Resulting analyzed temperature favorably coincides with measured temperature.

A finite volume radiation solution method was applied to a non- orthogonal coordinate system for the analysis of radiative-convective heat transfer about a circular cylinder in crossflow. The crossflow Reynolds number based on the cylinder radius was 20, and the fluid Prandtl number was 0.7. The radiative heat transfer coupled with convection was reasonably predicted by the finite volume radiation solution method. The investigation includes the effects of conduction- to-radiation parameter, optical thickness, scattering albedo and cylinder wall-emissivity on heat transfer about the cylinder. As the conduction- to-radiation parameter decreases, the radiative heat transfer rate increases and conduction rate as well due to the increase in temperature gradient on the cylinder wall which is caused by radiation enhancement. With an increase in the optical thickness, the Nusselt number increases significantly and the temperature gradient shows similar behavior. Though the radiative heat transfer increases with the scattering albedo, the total heat transfer decreases. This is because the decrease in the conduction heat transfer exceeds the increase in the radiation heat transfer. As the wall- emissivity increases, the radiation absorbed in the vicinity of the cylinder wall increases and thereby the total heat transfer increases, even though the conduction heat transfer decreases.
This paper is concerned with investigating the asymptotic behavior of end effects for a generalized heat conduction problem with an added dissipation term defined on a three-dimensional semi-infinite cylinder. With homogeneous Dirichlet conditions on the lateral surface of the cylinder it is shown that solutions either grow exponentially or decay exponentially in the distance from the finite end of the cylinder. In particular, to render decay estimate explicit, we pattern after the analysis of Payne and Song [13, 15]. The continuous dependence effect of perturbing the equations parameters is also investigated.
Understanding the thermal conductivity and heat transfer processes in superlattice structures is critical for the development of thermoelectric materials and optoelectronic devices based on quantum structures. $Chen^{(1)}$ developed ballistic diffusive equation(BDE) for alternatives of the Boltzmann equation that can be applied to the complex geometrical situation. In this study, a simulation code based on BDE is developed and applied to the 1-dimensional transient heat conduction across a thin film and transient 2-dimensional heat conduction across the film with heater. The obtained results are compared to the results of the $Chen^{(1)}$ and Yang and $Chen^{(1)}$. Finally, steady 2-dimensional heat conduction in the quantum dot superlattice are solved to obtain the equivalent thermal conductivity of the lattice and also compared with the experimental data from $Borca-Tasciuc^{(2)}$.
