A study was carried out to grow an understanding of the microstructural development of friction stir welds on an AZ91D magnesium alloy, and to evaluate the mechanical properties of the welds. AZ91D plates with the thickness of 4mm were used, and the microstructural development of the weld zone was investigated using optical and scanning electron microscopes. Square butt welding joint with good quality was obtained at the conditions of under 187mm/min of travel speed with 1100 to 1250 rpm of tool rotation speed. The microstructure within the weld region consisted of fine equiaxed grains with no evidence of the original dendritic structure. The hardness tests showed slightly increased harness in the weld region, and the minimum hardness measured is in that of the parent material. Tensile strength of the weld zone was remarkably improved due to very fine recrystallized structure. XRD pattern of weld zone revealed the removal of $\beta$ intermetallic compounds, $Mg_{17}$Al$_{12}$, which had been distributed in the base metal.l.

This paper proposes a new approach to provide RF communication channel and electric power transmission to overcome the weakness of conventional tests, which may cause several problems. When an RF communication device is used to communicate between launch vehicle and launch complex in stead of using harness umbilical, it may draw the simplicity of ground test equipments, cost-saving, and the reduction of test time. In addition, if an RF power transmission device is adopted to supply on-board power of launch vehicle, it can replace expensive on-board batteries, which may be degraded easily by the repeated charging and discharging processes.

Tofu (soybean curd) was made with whole soybean flour (WSF, 420 mesh) by various processing conditions of water addition ratio, heating time, coagulation temperature, molding pressure and 0.3% of mixed coagulant (CaSO₄:GDL=50:50(w/w)). Yield content of WSF-tofu was the highest in processing condition of 85℃ coagulation temperature, 10 times water addition, 5min. heating time and 25.00 g/㎠ molding pressure. As the increase of the water addition ratio from 8 to 14 times (water:WSF, v/w), Hunter's L and a values were increased. Raising of heating time (100℃, 1, 5, 10 and 15 min), a and b value were increased. Textural properties of WSF-tofu were significantly affected by coagulation temperature (75, 80, 85 and 90℃). Hardness was increased, but adhesiveness and cohesiveness were decreased. heating time was influenced on harness of WSF-tofu, but water addition ratio was not affected on hardness of WSF-tofu. Increasing of molding pressure (16.83, 25.00, 33.22 and 41.67 g/㎠, 1 hr) was resulted from a increased hardness, gumminess and chewingss of tofu, but adhesiveness was addition ratio, 5 min heating time and 25.00 g/㎠ molding pressure recorded the highest score in sensory evaluation test.

The grand challenge for the 21$^{st$ century is to harness knowledge of the earth`s biological and ecological diversity to understand how they shape global environmental systems. This insight benefits both science and society. Biological and ecological data are among the most diverse and complex in the scientific realm. spanning vast temporal and spatial scales, distant localities. and multiple disciplines. Environmental informatics is an emerging discipline applying information science, ecology, and biodiversity to the understanding and solution of environmental problems. In this paper we give an overview of the experiences of the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) with this new multidisciplinary science, discuss the application of computing resources to the study of environmental systems, and outline strategic partnership activities in environmental iformatics that are underway, We hope to foster interactions between ecology, biodiversity, and conservation researchers in East Asia-Pacific Rim and those at SDSC and the Partnership for Biodiversity Informatics.
Gene therapy is emerging as a treatment option for inherited genetic diseases. The success of this treatment approach greatly depends upon gene delivery vectors. Researchers have attempted to harness the potential of viral vectors for gene therapy applications over many decades. Among the viral vectors available, gutless adenovirus (GLAd) has been recognized as one of the most promising vectors for in vivo gene delivery. GLAd is constructed by deleting all the viral genes from an adenovirus. Owing to this structural feature, the production of GLAd requires a helper that supplies viral proteins in trans. Conventionally, the helper is an adenovirus. Although the helper adenovirus efficiently provides helper functions, it remains as an unavoidable contaminant and also generates replication-competent adenovirus (RCA) during the production of GLAd. These two undesirable contaminants have raised safety concerns and hindered the clinical applications of GLAd. Recently, we developed helper virus-free gutless adenovirus (HF-GLAd), a new version of GLAd, which is produced by a helper plasmid instead of a helper adenovirus. Utilization of this helper plasmid eliminated the helper adenovirus and RCA contamination in the production of GLAd. HF-GLAd, devoid of helper adenovirus and RCA contaminants, will facilitate its clinical applications. In this review, we discuss the characteristics of adenoviruses, the evolution and production of adenoviral vectors, and the unique features of HF-GLAd as a new platform for gene therapy. Furthermore, we highlight the potential applications of HF-GLAd as a gene delivery vector for the treatment of various inherited genetic diseases.

The mechanical properties and failure behaviour of carbon/phenolic composites were inverstigated by tension and compression. Carbon/phenolic composites were fabricated by infiltration of matrix into 8 harness satin woven fabric of PAN-based carbon fibers. The tensile and compressive tests were performed at 25℃ under air atmosphere and, at 400℃ and 700℃ under N₂ atmosphere. The tensile strengths of carbon/phenolic composites in with-laminar/0° warp direction were about 10 times higher than those in with-laminar/45° warp direction, which was analyzed due to a change of fracture mode from fiber pull-out by shear to tensile fracture of fibers. The fracture of carbon/phenolic composites in with-laminar/45° direction was analyzed due to delamination by buckling. Tensile and compressive strength of carbon/phenolic composites decreased to about 50% at 400℃, and to about 10% at 700℃ compared to that at room temperature. The main reason for the decrease of tensile or compressive strength with increasing temperature was analyzed due to a reduction of bond strength between fibers and matrix resulting from thermal degradation of phenolic resin.
A variable electromotive-force generator (VEG), which is a modified generator with an adjustable overlap between the rotor and the stator, is proposed to expand the operational range of a regular generator through a simple and robust active control strategy. It has a broad range of applications in hybrid vehicles, wind turbines, water turbines, and similar technologies. A mathematical model of the VEG is developed, and a novel prototype is designed and fabricated. The performance of the VEG with an active control system, which adjusts the overlap ratio based on the desired output power at different rotor speeds for a specific application, is theoretically and experimentally studied. The results show that reducing the overlap between the rotor and the stator of the generator results in reduced torque loss of the generator and an increased rotational speed of the generator rotor. A VEG can improve the fuel efficiency of hybrid vehicles; it can also expand operational ranges of wind turbines and water turbines and harness more power.
We conducted comparative analysis on the quality characteristics five different classes of the Songgi (Pine inner bark) Garaetteok with different pine inner bark 0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, and 4%, respectively. The experiment results show that color values of the Songgi Garaetteok pine inner bark powder, the L value highest in control group 72.91 while a value was highest in 4% group. As a result of measurements for three days, the moist content for control group and 1% group 48.89 and 51.65, respectively two hours production. On day 1, the moist content of all samples peaked. Harness peaked in control group 954.13, followed by 4% group. The DPPH radical scavenging ability of pine inner bark powder and the Songgi Garaetteok containing 4% pine inner bark highest at 11.61% and 7.14%, respectively. In evaluating antibiosis, the Songgi Garaetteok containing 4% pine inner bark the highest level of antibacterial activity. In sensory evaluation, the Songgi Garaetteok containing 2% pine inner bark received the highest score color, flavor, texture, taste and overall preference. The experiment that the Songgi Garaetteok pine inner bark powder has better antioxidative effect regular Songgi Garaetteok. The Hong Kong Housing Authority (HKHA) develops and implements a public housing programme to meet the housing needs of people who cannot afford private rental housing. The HKHA has an existing stock of about 740,000 public rental flats (PRH). According to the 2014 Policy Address, the Government aims to provide an average of about 20,000 PRH units and about 8,000 Home Ownership Scheme (HOS) units per year. We care for the environment. In developing new housing estates, we conduct thorough environmental studies such as microclimate studies and air ventilation assessment, and use passive design to harness the natural characteristics of our sites. We employ environment-friendly design and construction methods, using modular flat design, pre-cast and pre-fabricated construction techniques as well as recycled, green construction materials. We conduct Carbon Emission Estimation for all our projects, conserve the use of natural resources and reduce wastes throughout the life cycle of buildings. We care for people. We adopt the principles of Universal Design and Barrier Free Access for the convenience and welfare of people of all ages and abilities. We carry out Community Engagement to collect stakeholders' views and aspirations, and incorporate them in the design of our projects. We also carry out surveys of residents' views after the occupation of new estates to gauge our success and identify areas for improvement.

The ECU which is operating inductive actuator like motor or solenoid should be designed with considering the heat removal performance and the EMC performance. In most cases, these two performances are trade-off. Especially, the metal cover with plastic housing for improving heat removal performance can affect EMC performance by coupling the noise source to harness cable and connector. Therefore, after analyzing the EMC effectiveness of the metal cover, countermeasures for EMC noise reduction should be established. In this paper, by simulating and testing of AHB Gen3 ECU, the influence of the metal cover to EMC performance is analyzed. And based on this result, we propose solutions for EMC noise reduction.
