  • This study was performed to investigate the flow behavior of fresh concrete. strength properties, and durability properties on the chloride penetration resistance of hardened concrete containing Meta-Kaolin(MK) in the range from common strength to high strength to facilitate the use. The results are compared with properties of concrete containing Si1ca Fume(SF). As a result. superplasticizer required in MK concrete was decreased by 8-28% compared to SF concrete with the same slump, but MK concrete became more sticky than SF concrete. It was also found that considering the strength, the optimal cement replacement ratio of MK was 15%, and MK had concrete durable and dense by decreasing the average pore diameter of concrete.

  • The slag through sieve #4 replaced the natural fine aggregate in different proportions (0-50%) to make ready-mixed soil and slag (RMSAS). The fresh properties studied, and the concrete specimens were produced to test the hardened properties at different ages. Results showed that the workability of RMSAS decreases when the replacement increases. The unit weight increases with the replacement. The setting time extends when the replacement decreases and shortens when the replacement increases. The compressive strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity and hammer rebound value increase with the replacement. However, the high-replacement results decrease because of the expansion factor at late age. Resistivity is close and less than $20k{\Omega}-cm$. After the industrial of steelmaking by-products are processed properly, they can be used in civil engineering, not only as a substitute for natural resources and to reduce costs, but also to provide environmental protection.

  • Generally, the properties of aggregate greatly affect the physical and mechanical properties of concrete. Flat and elongated particles in coarse aggregates, for some construction uses, may interfere with consolidation and be difficult to place. In this study, an experiment to evaluate properties of flat and elongated particles as coarse aggregate in concrete was conducted. The experiments include slump test, air content test and compressive strength test. The test result of slump and change of slump was rapidly decreased by percentage of flat and elongated particles. But it had not a trend by increasing percentage of flat and elongated particles. Compressive strength of hardened concrete does not make any differences in comparison.

  • SUS316L stainless steel, commercial pure Titanium and Ti-6Al-4V alloy powders applied by Mechanical Milling (MM) process are sintered by Hot Roll Sintering (HRS) process. Microstructure and mechanical properties of those HRS materials is investigated. The microstructures of materials produced by HRS process consist of fine grains and work-hardened structure, that is, the hybrid microstructure. Tensile test of the HRS material demonstrated the good mechanical properties. These results show that the HRS process is very effective to the improvement of mechanical properties in the SUS316L stainless steel, commercial pure Titanium and Ti-6Al-4V alloy.

  • Polyethylene-terephthalate (PET) from bottle waste and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) from barrels and tanks waste are widely available and need to be recycled. Recycling them in concrete and mortar is an alternative solution for their disposal. In this study various quantities of sand (5%, 10%, 15% and 20%) were substituted by powder from LLDPE waste. In addition, PET waste fibers (corrugated, straight) were added to the mortar with different percentages (0.5%, 1%, 1.5% and 2%) of cement mass. This paper evaluate the mechanical and physical properties of the composites in fresh (workability, air content and density) and hardened state (compressive and flexural strength, water absorption and total shrinkage). From the experimental results, it can be concluded that the strengthening in tensile of the mortar with plastic waste corrugated fibers is improved. Other important results are that the water absorption and the density rate are less than that of the ordinary mortar.

  • A low temperature plasma carburizing process was performed on AISI 316L austenitic stainless steel to achieve an enhancement of the surface hardness without degradation of its corrosion resistance. Attempts were made to investigate the influence of the processing temperatures on the surface hardened layer during low temperature plasma carburizing in order to obtain the optimum processing conditions. The expanded austenite (${\gamma}_c$) phase, which contains a high saturation of carbon (S phase), was formed on all of the treated surfaces. Precipitates of chromium carbides were detected in the hardened layer (C-enriched layer) only for the specimen treated at $550^{\circ}C$. The hardened layer thickness of ${\gamma}_c$ increased up to about $65{\mu}m$ with increasing treatment temperature. The surface hardness reached about 900 $HK_{0.05}$, which is about 4 times higher than that of the untreated sample (250 $HK_{0.05}$). A minor loss in corrosion resistance was observed for the specimens treated at temperatures of $300^{\circ}C{\sim}450^{\circ}C$ compared with untreated austenitic stainless steel. In particular, the precipitation of chromium carbides at $550^{\circ}C$ led to a significant decrease in the corrosion resistance. A diamond-like carbon (DLC) film coating was applied to improve the wear and friction properties of the S phase layer. The DLC film showed a low and stable friction coefficient value of about 0.1 compared with that of the carburized surface (about 0.45). The hardness and corrosion resistance of the S phase layer were further improved by the application of such a DLC film.

  • Die steel for plastic molding were used as mold material of automobile parts and electronic component industry. The material of this paper has superior to mechanical properties, such as repair weldability, corrosion resistance and high temperature strength, required mold parts for semitransparent. Laser-induced surface hardening technology is widely adopted to improver fatigue life and wear resistance via localized hardening at the surface of mold parts. The objective of this research work is to investigate on the characteristics of surface hardening of the laser process parameters, such as beam travel speed, laser power and defocsued spot position, for the case of die steel for plastic molding. Lens for surface hardening of large area is plano-convex type with elliptical profile to maintain uniform laser irradiation. According to the experimental results, large size of hardened layer at the surface of die steel for plastic molding was achieved, and microstructure of this layer was lath martensite. Optimal surface status and mechanical property of hardened layer could be obtained at 1095Watt, $0.25{\sim}0.3m/min$, 0mm (focal length: 232mm) for laser power, beam travel speed, and focal position. Where, heat input was $0.793{\times}10^{3}J/cm^2$, and width of hardened layer was 27.58mm.

  • Once hot forgings for automotive parts such as wheel bearing flange to which cyclic asymmetric bending stress is continuously applied are produced, it is necessary to control their microstructure to obtain superior mechanical properties. It is however hard to control the microstructure uniformly because the strength is reduced as coarsening of ferrite grains. To investigate the microstructural alteration according to process variables during hot working, the variation of the ferrite grain size was studied by utilizing of the computer aided servo-hydraulic Gleeble tester which is hot deformation behavior reproduction equipment. In addition, the effect of the ferrite grain size of raw material on the austenite grain behavior of hot forgings was also examined. The rolling contact fatigue resistance of the induction hardened SAE 1055 steel was compared with the occasion of the same condition of SAE52100 bearing steel. As a result, it was confirmed that the ferrite grain sizes of the forgings depend on the heating temperature and cooling start temperature during hot forging and cooling processes. The induction hardened SAE1055 steel showed a superior rolling contact fatigue resistance to the induction hardened SAE52100 steel. The reason is that SAE1055 steel is freer from the material defect such as segregation than the comparative steel.
