  • Settlement with crack on the hardened liners may occur in the weak clay due to waste load since the stiffness of the hardened liner is greater than that of the clay layers. Way of reducing deformation crack in the hardened liner is investigated using two computer programs, CONSOL and FLAC. The computer program CONSOL estimates the magnitude of settlement with time in clay layers and FLAC analyses the stress and deformation relationship between the foundation of landfill and waste load. The results show that a representative block of the analyzed area reaches the consolidation settlement of 1.32m, 8.8 years after the disposal of waste started with the degree of consolidation U=90%. The stress within the hardened liner exceeds the allowable vertical stress of 5kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and horizontal stress of 1.67kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at the concave part of the liner where the main and branch drainage pipes of leachate are located. It was recognized that the thickness of the interested area should be enlarged or the strength of the same area should be improved to tolerate the planned waste load.

  • Characteristics of advective-diffusive transport of inorganic chemicals in clayey soils as well as in two hardened barrier materials of silica and lime are analyzed from the laboratory column test and compared with those of pure diffusive column test. The results show that the average dispersion coefficients of three materials are $4.39\times l0^{-10}\textrm{m}^2 /s,\; 1.98\times l0^{-10}\textrm{m}^2 /s,\; 1.99\times l0^{-10}\textrm{m}^2 /s$, respectively, and the value of clay is higher than that of hardened barrier materials. There was no significant difference between the dispersion coefficients of advective-diffusive column tests and the effective diffusion coefficients from the pure diffusive column tests, if advective velocity was lower than l0$^{-7}$$m^2$/s. The range of dispersion coefficients of advective-diffusive column tests was narrower than that of diffusion coefficients of pure diffusion tests.

  • High speed machining is a key issue in die and mold manufacturing recently. Even though this technology has great potential of high productivity. tool wear accelerated by high cutting speed to the hardened materials is other barrier. In this research, we attempted to reduce tool wear by considering tool inclination angle between tool and workpiece. The boundary lines describing machined sculptured surfaces were represented by both of cutting envelop condition and the geometric relationship of successive tool paths. Chip cross section, and cutting length could be obtained from the calculated cutting edge and the rotational engagement angle. From the simulation results, machining inclination angle of tool of $15^\circ$ was good enough from the point of tool wear and cutting force, and this value was verified through the cutting experiment of high speed ball end milling.
