중간세공을 갖는 껍질로 구성된 속이 빈 마이크로 탄소입자의 합성 및 이들의 전기화학적 특성 (Synthesis of Hollow Carbon Microspheres with Mesoporous Shell and Vacant Core Structure and Their Electrochemical Properties)

  • 본 연구에서는 구형의 폴리스티렌 구슬을 틀로 사용하여, 크기분포가 좁으면서 속은 비어있고 벽이 다공성인 구조의 탄소 마이크로 캡슐을 합성하였다. 폴리스티렌의 표면은 무기물인 실리카졸이 쉽게 입혀질 수 있도록 폴리비닐피롤리돈(PVP)을 코팅하여 변조하였다. PVP가 코팅된 PS 마이크로 입자표면에 SBA-16 졸을 부착시킨 다음, 실리카층에 존재하는 중간 크기의 세공 내에 탄소원을 채워 넣는 음각식 형뜨기법을 적용함으로써 속이 빈 구조의 탄소 마이크로캡슐을 제조하였다. 탄화과정을 거치고 틀로 사용한 다공성 실리카입자를 HF로 용해하면, 좁은 입자크기분포를 갖는 중간세공이 함유된 계란껍질형의 탄소입자를 얻을 수 있었다. 계란껍질형 탄소 마이크로캡슐 입자의 다공성과 전기화학적 특성은 XRD, SEM, TEM, 질소분자 흡/탈착분석법 및 cyclic voltammetry법으로 평가하였다. 이들 탄소입자는 슈퍼캐패시터와 같은 전자재료로서 유효하게 사용될 만한 높은 전기전도도와 용량을 나타내었다.

Machinability investigation and sustainability assessment in FDHT with coated ceramic tool

  • The paper addresses contribution to the modeling and optimization of major machinability parameters (cutting force, surface roughness, and tool wear) in finish dry hard turning (FDHT) for machinability evaluation of hardened AISI grade die steel D3 with PVD-TiN coated (Al2O3-TiCN) mixed ceramic tool insert. The turning trials are performed based on Taguchi's L18 orthogonal array design of experiments for the development of regression model as well as adequate model prediction by considering tool approach angle, nose radius, cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut as major machining parameters. The models or correlations are developed by employing multiple regression analysis (MRA). In addition, statistical technique (response surface methodology) followed by computational approaches (genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization) have been employed for multiple response optimization. Thereafter, the effectiveness of proposed three (RSM, GA, PSO) optimization techniques are evaluated by confirmation test and subsequently the best optimization results have been used for estimation of energy consumption which includes savings of carbon footprint towards green machining and for tool life estimation followed by cost analysis to justify the economic feasibility of PVD-TiN coated Al2O3+TiCN mixed ceramic tool in FDHT operation. Finally, estimation of energy savings, economic analysis, and sustainability assessment are performed by employing carbon footprint analysis, Gilbert approach, and Pugh matrix, respectively. Novelty aspects, the present work: (i) contributes to practical industrial application of finish hard turning for the shaft and die makers to select the optimum cutting conditions in a range of hardness of 45-60 HRC, (ii) demonstrates the replacement of expensive, time-consuming conventional cylindrical grinding process and proposes the alternative of costlier CBN tool by utilizing ceramic tool in hard turning processes considering technological, economical and ecological aspects, which are helpful and efficient from industrial point of view, (iii) provides environment friendliness, cleaner production for machining of hardened steels, (iv) helps to improve the desirable machinability characteristics, and (v) serves as a knowledge for the development of a common language for sustainable manufacturing in both research field and industrial practice.

$PEBAX^{TM}$/TEOS 하이브리드 분리막을 통한 이산화탄소와 메탄의 기체투과특성 (Gas Permeation Properties of Carbon Dioxide and Methane for $PEBAX^{TM}$/TEOS Hybrid Membranes)

  • Poly(ether-block-amide)(PEBA, $PEBAX^{TM}$)는 열가소성 탄성체(thermoplastic elastomer, TCU)로서 hard-rigid amide block과 soft-flexible ether block으로 구성되어 있으며, 분자량과 두 block간의 구성비에 따라 여러 종류가 있다. $PEBAX^{TM}$는 분리막소재로 이용할 경우, $PEBAX^{TM}$의 hard amide block은 우수한 기계적 특성과 선택도를, 그리고 soft ether block은 높은 투과도를 제공할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 2종류의 $PEBAX^{TM}$를 사용하여 기체분리막을 제조하고, 종류에 따른 이산화탄소와 메탄의 투과특성 변화를 연구하였다. 또한 순수 $PEBAX^{TM}$ 분리막의 투과특성을 향상시키기 위해 무기전구체로서 TEOS(tetraethoxysilane)를 사용하여 $PEBAX^{TM}$/TEOS 하이브리드막을 제조하고, 그 투과특성을 순수 $PEBAX^{TM}$ 분리막의 결과와 비교하였다. 순수 $PEBAX^{TM}$-1657과 $PEBAX^{TM}$-2533 분리막의 투과도 측정 결과, ether block의 비율이 상대적으로 높은 $PEBAX^{TM}$-2533 분리막의 투과도 계수가 보다 높은 투과도 계수값을 가졌다. 이는 $PEBAX^{TM}$-2533의 경우, 상대적으로 높은 ether block 함량 때문에 고분자 사슬의 유연성이 보다 크기 때문으로 볼 수 있다. $PEBAX^{TM}$/TEOS 하이브리드 분리막의 투과특성을 순수 $PEBAX^{TM}$ 분리막의 결과와 비교할 때, 하이브리드 분리막의 기체 투과도 계수가 보다 높음을 알 수 있다. 이는 TEOS의 축합반응으로 생성된 silica domain에 의해 결정성이 감소하고 또한 이산화탄소와 silanol group과의 친화도(affinity) 증가에 따른 용해도가 증가하기 때문으로 볼 수 있다. 하이브리드 분리막의 투과도 계수 증가에도 불구하고 이상분리인자는 거의 비슷하거나 약간 감소하였음을 알 수 있다. 이는 이산화탄소와 silanol group의 친화도 증가로 인한 용해선택도의 증가에 기인한 것으로 볼 수 있다.

탄소 섬유 복합재의 경면 상대재에 대한 마찰 및 마모 특성 (Wear and friction characteristics of a carbon fiber composite against specular counterpart)

  • This is the study on dry sliding wear behavior of unidirectional carbon fiber reinforced epoxy matrix composite at ambient temperature. The wear rates and friction coefficients against the stainless steel counterpart specularly processed were experimentally determined and the resulting wear mechanisms were microscopically observed. Three principal sliding directions relative to the dominant fiber orientation in the composite were selected. Wren sliding took place against smooth and hard counterpart, the highest wear resistance and the lowest friction coefficient were observed in the antiparallel direction. When the velocity between the composite and the counterpart went up, the wear rate increased. The fiber destruction and cracking caused fiber bending on the contact surface, which was discovered to be dominant wear mechanism.

Tribological properties of DLC films on polymers

  • Our study is to search for tribological properties of diamond-like carbon (DLC) films as known as anti- wear hard thin film on various polymers. This report deals with the deposition of DLC films on various polymer substrates in vacuum by magnetron radio frequency (RF) sputtering method with using argon plasma and graphite, titanium target. The properties of friction and wear are measured using a ball-on-disk wear -testing machine. The properties of friction and wear have been remarkably improved by DLC coating. Moreover the composition of DLC films has been analyzed by using auger electron spectroscopy(AES). The wear rate of titanium-containing DLC film is lower than that of no-metal-containing DLC film.

  • Method of plasma-immersion ion deposition of hydrogenated DLC films on relatively thick flat dielectric substrates from plasma of not-self-sustained low-pressure gas arc discharge is suggested. Coating properties have been investigated experimentally, average energy Per a deposited carbon atom depending on discharge current has been calculated. Optimum deposition parameters lot obtaining sufficiently hard and transparent high-adhesive a-C:H films on a 4-mm thick glass substrates have been determined. Possibility to use these coatings for photo-tools protection from abrasion wear at low operating loads is shown in general.

이종 금속의 아크 스폿 용접성 및 접합부 형상 예측에 관한 연구 (A Study on Weldability and Prediction of Nugget Shape in Dissimiar Metal Arc Spot Weld)

  • In this study, the lap welding between austenitic stainless steel and carbon steel was carried out using arc spot welding process and weldability of welded specimens was estimated. From the tensile-shear strength test, micro Vickers hardness test, and microstructure observation, specimen of 6.5mm(hole of upper plate) showed the best results in terms of tensile-shear strength and nugget shape. And there was an unmixed zone in fusion boundary between the carbon steel base metal and bulk weld metal. This zone had very thin width with the hard microstructure. The shape of weld nugget in arc spot welding of dissimilar metal welds was predicted by searching thermal history of a weld joint through a three-dimensional finite element model. From the numerical analysis, predicted the shape of weld nugget showed good agreement with the experiment(Received August 24, 1999)

  • The electron beam machining provides very high resolution up to nanometer scale, hence the E-beam writing technology is rapidly growing in MEMS and nano-engineering areas. In the optical column of the e-beam writer, there are several lenses condensing and focusing electron beams from electron gun with fringing magnetic fields. The polepieces of these lenses are usually made with high purity iron which is hard to fabricate and very expensive. In this paper, the possibility of using polepiece of object lens composed with pure iron and low carbon steel was examined to reduce cost. The magnetic field at object lens was calculated with finite element method, and practical focusing qualities of SEM pictures were observed comparing for the object lens polepieces with pure iron and two type of composed with low carbon steel.

$B_4C$의 소결에 관한 연구 (A Study for the Sintering of Boron Carbide)

  • Hard shaped bodies are made by sintering a cold-pressed compact of a boron carbide compound which contains a densification aid. Titanium diboride and carbon were used as a densification aid in a range of 1% to 10% by weight. The effects of sintering temperature and additives on linear shrinkage porosity hardness bend strength and microstructure were examined. The initial partical size dependence on the sintered density was also discussed.
