  • The CSR rule was defined by IACS as the unified rule for a commercial ship like a bulk carrier and a tanker. It have been required more strict conditions for various parts like loading conditions, the local and girder strength, fatigue strength, FEM for the ship rule. It was changed in many parts of the ship rules. In this paper, the mid-parts of 17.5K DWT bulk carrier were optimized by the CSR rule. On the other hand, the modified artificial life algorithms with multi-object functions were developed for optimizing the scantling. It is possible to find multi-global optimum solutions in the multi-object functions. And it is faster and efficient than the artificial life algorithm. First, to be optimizing the scantling and the weight by CSR rule, that is calculated by the CSR rule. The next, the result is re-calculated by the modified artificial life algorithm with multi-object functions. The optimized results which are satisfied with the CSR rule like the minimum size and the thickness of stiffener and the minimum cost have been searched by the optimizing algorithm. And the results have been compared with the non-optimizing results.

  • The effect of forging parameters, including different forging stock, strain rate and strain, on the mechanical properties of hot-forged Al 6061-T6 was investigated. The forging was conducted using either hydraulic press, crank press or hammer press, respectively, at a forging temperature of $400^{\circ}C$. When using an extruded bar as a forging stock, the tensile strength was lower for the specimens prepared by hammer forging than those by crank press forging. It was found that the coarsening of recrystallized grain was responsible for the decrease in tensile strength with hammer forging. Systematic studies on the effects of strain and strain rate on the tensile properties of hot-forged Al 6061-T6 products using extruded bar as a forging stock further suggested that the coarsening of recrystallized grains and$ Mg_2$Si precipitates complexed the observed trends in the tensile behavior. In case of hot forging with continuous cast bar as a forging stock, on the other hand, the mechanical properties of the specimen were largely improved with hammer press compared to those with crank press, which appeared to be due to the homogenization of microstructure.

  • Purpose: When casting of ceramics, proper amount of deflocculant was added for disperse the particles in slip. In this study, examined the optimum amount of APMA(ammonium polymethaacrylate) water as deflocculant for casting the zirconia. Methods: The 100 g of zirconia powder were ball milled with 300 g zirconia ball, 90 g of distilled water, and APMA water in polyethylene pot for 24 hours. The amount of APMA water were added as deflocculant from 0.5 to 0.9 g at an intervals of 0.1 g. The viscosity of slip with no deflocculant showed 1362c.p. and the minimum viscosity with 580c.p. obtained when the slip contained 0.7% of deflocculant. Bar type specimens were casted with plaster mold and biscuit fired at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 1 hours. Biscuit fired specimens were finished with $60mm(L){\times}14mm(W){\times}10mm(H) bar$. Finished specimens were 2nd fired at $1500^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. Results: Regardless the addition of deflocculant, all 2nd fired specimens showed 0% of apparent porosity and water absorption. The specimens with no deflocculant showed 24% of drying shrinkage and 27.4% firing shrinkage. On the other hand, The specimens with deflocculant showed 17.4% of drying shrinkage and 17.6% firing shrinkage regardless the amount of deflocculant. The maximum bulk density with $6.09g/cm^3$ obtained when the specimens casted with 0.7~0.9% of deflocculant contained slips. Bend strength of specimen with no deflocculant showed 680 MPa and the maximum bend strength with 814 MPa obtained when the specimen casted with 0.7% of diflocculant contained slip. Conclusion : It was found that the particle shape of the powder according to the dispersing agent is added, the particle size, sintering temperature and affect the particle size distribution, sintering time, sintering atmosphere, such a great influence on the sintering.

  • Recently, ultrafine grained (ufg, typically 100 > d > 500 nm) Ti-Fe eutectic materials have been highlighted due to their extraordinarily high strength and good abrasion resistance compared to conventional coarse grained (cg, d > $1{\mu}m$) materials. However, these materials exhibit limited plastic strain and toughness during room temperature deformation due to highly localized shear strain. Several approaches have been extensively studied to overcome such drawbacks, such as the addition of minor elements (Sn, Nb, Co, etc.). In this paper, we have investigated the influence of the addition of Gd and Y contents (0.3-1.0 at.%) into the binary Ti-Fe eutectic alloy. Gd and Y are chosen due to their immiscibility with Ti. Microstructural investigation reveals that the Gd phase forms in the eutectic matrix and the Gd phase size increases with increasing Gd content. The improvement of the mechanical properties is possibly correlated to the precipitation hardening. On the other hand, in the case of Ti-Fe-Y alloys, with increasing Y contents, primary phases form and lamellar spacing increases compared to the case of the eutectic alloy. Investigation of the mechanical properties reveals that the plasticity of the Ti-Fe-Y alloys is gradually improved, without a reduction of strength. These results suggest that the enhancement of the mechanical properties is closely related to the formation of the primary phase.

  • This investigates the microstructure and mechanical properties of Al hybrid material prepared by electromagnetic duo-casting to determine the effect of heat treatment. The hybrid material is composed of an Al-Mg-Si alloy, pure Al and the interface between the Al-Mg-Si alloy and pure Al. It is heat-treated at 373, 573 and 773K for 1h and T6 treated (solution treatment at 773K for 1h and aging at 433K for 5h). As the temperature increases, the grain size of the Al-Mg-Si alloy in the hybrid material increases. The grain size of the T6 treated Al-Mg-Si alloy is similar to that of one heat-treated at 773K for 1h. The interface region where the micro-hardness becomes large from the pure Al to the Al-Mg-Si alloy widens with an increasing heat temperature. The hybrid material with a macro-interface parallel to the tensile direction experiences increased tensile strength, 0.2 % proof stress and the decreased elongation after T6 heat treatment. On the other hand, in the vertical direction to the tensile direction, there is no great difference with heat treatment. The bending strength of the hybrid material with a long macro-interface to the bending direction is higher than that with a short macro-interface, which is improved by heat treatment. The hybrid material with a long macro-interface to the bending direction is fractured by cracking through the eutectic structure in the Al-Mg-Si alloy. However, in the hybrid material with a short macro-interface, the bending deformation is observed only in the limited pure Al.

  • In this study, the reclaimed polypropylene (RPP) and waste ground rubber tire (WGRT) were used to simulate the thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) for cost reduction and resources recycling. Also, we examined the effects of dicumyl peroxide (DCP) and 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di-(tert-butylperoxy)-hexane (DTBPH) as peroxide type cross-linking agents to enhance the properties of TPV's. The components of RPP and WGRT were fixed at 30 and 70 wt%, and DCP and DTBPH were added in the concentrations from 0.5 to 1.5 phr, respectively. RPP/WGRT composites with different contents of DCP and DTBPH were prepared by a modular intermeshing co-rotating twin screw extruder. The Young's modulus of composites were decreased with increasing peroxides contents. On the other hand, tensile strength, elongation at break, and impact strength of the composites were increased with peroxide contents. We also confirmed that interfacial adhesion between RPP and WGRT was considerably improved by adding the peroxides. Taken together, DTBPH added RPP/WGRT composites exhibited better mechanical properties rather than those of DCP added composites.

  • We studied teachers' breakfast habits and their preferences on various breakfast types so that we will furnish data to nutrition education including ideal breakfast habit and development of various menus. The meal considered as most importantly were dinner (66.2%), fellowed by lunch(21.6%), all three meals(6.4%) and breakfast(5.8%). Men considered breakfast more importantly than women. On the contrary, women considered dinner more significantly compared to men. The group aged 45 and over emphasized breakfast and all three meal. 78.1% of subjects answered that breakfast is necessary and 61.5% of subjects ate breakfast regularly. Those who have breakfast regularly was lower in women(50.0%) than in men(71.3%). Instead, those who eat breakfast irregularly or skipping it was higher among women(50.0%) than among men(29.7%). The percentages of having breakfast regularly was higher in older groups. For breakfast, 82.1% of subjects had conventional meal which included rice, soup and Kimch. On the other hand, 13.9% of subjects had Western style breakfast such as bread, cornflakes and milk. The major reason for eating breakfast regularly was answered as 'maintain health(71.8%)'. The major reason for eating breakfast irregularly or skipping was 'don't have enough time to eat(48.0%)', 'poor appetite(28.6%)'. The major physical discomfort after skipping breakfast was 'experience brash(35.6%)', 'lack of physical strength(35.1%)'. Subjects answered that breakfast served as 'source of physical strength(64.9%)', 'provides nutritional balance for a day(21.1%)' and 15.0% of subjects ate out breakfast. Therefore, it is suggested that teachers as well as school children be provided breakfast and snack in school. The preference and opinion regarding breakfast types wer conventional food including rice, soup and Kimch(67.0%). There was a little preference in Western style food such as bread, milk and coffee(14.3%), cereals mixture and porridge(10.7%). It was noticeable that 49.1% of females and those who reside in Seoul(42.2%) selected various breakfast types excluding conventional food. Therefore it will be accepted to working women as breakfast if it is nutritionally balanced and cook well in short time.

  • Light-weight concrete uses forming agents for reducing weight and high heat insulation property. However, the forming agents make problems of decreased volume and compressive strength of the concrete. This research aims to having weight-reduction and securing heat insulation property using recycled wasted form polyurethane without any forming agents. A small quantity of admixture used for constructability and avoiding material segregation. We picked admixtures from two different companies which shows evenly dispersed of wasted form polyurethane. This research conducts a study on the effect of mixing ratio of admixture on the light-weight concrete used wasted form polyurethane. As a result of the test, increased mixing ratio of the admixtures results reduced fluidity of concrete. On the other hand, percentage of moisture content and compressive strength are increased slightly. Combustibility performance and sound insulation performance are also secured, as well.

  • Jeju-do is a island formed by the volcanic activity and has more than 360 volcanic cones distributed widely along the long axis of the elliptically shaped island. The volcanic cones consist mainly of scoria, so called "Song-I" in the local dialect. In this study the chemical and soil mechanical properties of scoria being very different from those of the inland were investigated with the various tests. In the sieve-passing test the particle size of scoria had more than 10 of uniformity coefficient and gradation coefficient of 1 ~ 3, showing relatively homogenous distribution. Based on the uniformity classification, scoria was assorted into GW. In the large scale direct shear tested for measuring the mechanical strength of scoria the internal friction angle of red scoria was $37^{\circ}$ and that of black scoria was $36^{\circ}$. This indicated that there was no difference in the mechanical strength between two types of scoria. On the other hand, red and black scoria had $1.24{\times}10^{-3}$ to $3.55{\times}10^{-2}$ cm/sec of k values for the static water level permeability, thus being classified into a coarse or fine sand as compared with that representing the saturated soil. They also had 1.411 to $1.477\;g/cm^3$ of notably low $r_{dmax}$ values for the compaction test as compared with common soil, which was considered to be due to their low specific gravity and high porosity. In conclusion, the soil mechanic properties of scoria obtained from this study are thought to be very helpful for reducing lots of trial and error happening in the civil engineering construction.
