Enhancement of Turbulent Heat Transfer of the Cooling System in Nuclear Reactor by Large Scale Vortex Generation

  • Experimental and computational studies were carried out to investigate the turbulent heat transfer enhancement of the cooling system in nuclear reactor by large scale vortex generation. The large scale vortex motion was generated by rearranging the inclination angels of mixing vanes to the coordinate direction. Axial development of mean and turbulent velocities in the subchannels were measured by the 2-color LDV system. Eddy diffusivity concept based on $\kappa{-}\varepsilon$ model was employed to calculate the turbulent heat and momentum transfers in the subchannel. The turbulences generated by split mixing vanes has small length scales so that they maintain only about $10D_H$ after the spacer grid. On the other hand, the turbulences generated by the large scale vortex motions continue longer and remain up to $25D_H$ after the spacer grid.

The large scale vortex motions were generated by rearranging the inclination angles of mixing vanes to the coordinate directions.   • In this paper, we propose a vision based system employing two cameras to provide effective touch screen function. The two main processes - determining touch (or no-touch) and contact location of screen plane - are essential for enabling touch screen function. First region of interest is found by using color characteristic and histogram for determining the contact mode. Second, if the hand touches the mirror, the fingertip point in image is found using the correlation coefficient based on the mirror attribute. Subsequently, the fingertip coordinate in image is transformed to the location in mirror plane by using four predefined points (termed as four-point method) and bilinear transform. Representative experimental results show that the proposed system is suited to touch screen.

  • Vibration reduction of an optical disk drive is achieved by an automatic ball balancer and dynamic behaviors of the drive are studied by theoretical approaches. Using Lagrange's equation, we derive nonlinear equations of motion for a non-autonomous system with respect to the rectangular coordinate. To investigate the dynamic stability of the system in the neighborhood of equilibrium positions, the Floquet theory is applied to the perturbed equations. On the other hand, time responses are computed by an explicit time integration method. We also investigate the effects of mass center and the position of the ABB on the dynamic behaviors of the system.

  • Recently taping robot with smart recognition function have been studied in the coil manufacturing field. Due to the difficulty of 3D surface processing from the complicated working environment, it is not easy to accomplish smart tape attachment motion with non-contact sensor. To solve these problems the applicable surface recognition algorithm and a flexible sensing device has been recommended. In this research, the fusion method between 1D displacement and 3D laser scanner is applied for robust tape attachment about cold rolled coil. With these sensors we develop a two-step exploration and the smart algorithm for the awareness of non-aligned coil's information. In the proposed robot system for tape attachment, the problem is reduced to coil's radius searching with laser displacement sensor at first, and then position and orientation detection with 3D laser scanner. To get the movement at the robot's base frame, the hand-eye compensation between robot's end effector and sensing device should be also carried out respectively. In this paper, we examine the auto-coordinate transformation method in the calibration step for the real environment usage. From the experimental results, it was shown that the taping motion of robot had a robust under the non-aligned cold rolled coil.

  • Due to an increased sitting time in work, lumbar disc disease is one of the most frequent diseases in modern days, and this occasionally requires surgery for treatment. Endoscopic disc surgery, one of the common disc surgeries, requires a process of inserting a guide needle to the target disc for which the insertion path is manually planned by drawing lines on the patient's skin while monitoring the fluoroscopic view of the lumbar. Such procedure inevitably exposes both surgeon and patient to the fluoroscopy radiation emitted from the c-arm for a long time. To reduce the radiation exposure time, this study proposes a computer assisted method of calculating the 3D guide needle path by using 2D c-arm images of the disc in 3 different angles. Additionally, a method of the guide robot control based on the 3D needle path was developed by implementing the Hand-eye Calibration method to calculate the transformation matrix between the c-arm and robot base coordinate systems. The proposed system was then tested for its accuracy.

FMCW 레이다 기반의 포인트 클라우드와 LSTM을 이용한 자동 핸드 제스처 영역 추출 및 인식 기법 (Automatic hand gesture area extraction and recognition technique using FMCW radar based point cloud and LSTM)

  • 본 논문에서는 FMCW 레이다 기반의 포인트 클라우드와 LSTM을 이용한 자동 핸드 제스처 영역 추출 및 인식 기법을 제안한다. 제안한 기법은 기존의 방식과 다른 다음과 같은 독창성이 있다. 첫 번째, 기존의 range-doppler 등의 2D 이미지를 입력 벡터로 하는 방식과 다르게 시계열 형태의 포인트 클라우드 입력 벡터는 레이다 전방에서 발생하는 시간에 따른 움직임을 좌표계 형태로 인식할 수 있는 직관적인 입력 데이터이다. 두 번째, 입력 벡터의 크기가 작기 때문에 인식에 쓰이는 딥러닝 모델도 가볍게 설계할 수 있다. 제안하는 기법의 수행 과정은 다음과 같다. FMCW 레이다로 측정된 거리, 속도, 각도 정보를 활용해 x, y, z 좌표 형식과 도플러 속도 정보를 포함한 포인트 클라우드를 활용한다. 제스처 영역은 속도 정보를 통해 얻어진 도플러 포인트를 이용하여 제스처의 시작과 끝 지점을 파악해 자동으로 핸드 제스처 영역을 추출하게 된다. 추출된 제스처 영역의 시점에 해당하는 시계열 형태의 포인트 클라우드는 최종적으로 본 논문에서 사용한 LSTM 딥러닝 모델의 학습 및 인식에 활용되게 된다. 제안하는 기법의 객관적인 신뢰성을 평가하기 위해 다른 딥러닝 모델들과 MAE를 산출하는 실험과 기존 기법들과 인식률을 산출하는 실험을 수행하여 비교하였다. 실험 결과, 시계열 형태의 포인트 클라우드 입력 벡터 + LSTM 딥러닝 모델의 MAE 값이 0.262, 인식률이 97.5%로 산출되었다. MAE는 낮을수록, 인식률은 높을수록 우수한 결과를 나타내므로 본 논문에서 제안한 기법의 효율성이 입증되었다.

  • 시각장애인들은 상품들에 대한 점자 정보와 지원 시스템의 부재로 인해 소매점을 이용하는데 어려움을 겪고 있다. 그에 따라 본 연구에서는 소매점 내 상품을 인식하고, 이를 음성으로 해설하는 시스템의 기본 알고리즘을 제안한다. 우선, 딥러닝 모델이 입력 이미지에서 손 객체와 상품 객체를 감지한다. 그리고 각 객체의 좌표 정보를 계산하여 손 객체와 가장 많이 겹치는 상품 객체를 찾는다. 그 상품을 사용자가 선택한 상품이라고 판단한 뒤, 해당 상품의 대한 영양 정보를 Text-To-Speech를 사용하여 읽어준다. 평가 결과, 학습 모델의 성능이 높은 것을 확인하였다. 본 알고리즘은 시각장애인의 소매점 이용을 지원하는 시스템 구축에 적극적으로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

Normal variations of mean velocity and turbulent intensity in the rod bundle subchannel were measured by the 2-color LDV measurement system. The turbulence generated by split mixing vanes has small length scales so that they maintain only about 10DH after the spacer grid. On the other hand, the turbulences generated by the large scale vortex continue more and remain up $25D_{H}$ after the spacer grid.

  • This paper is concerned with the forced flexural vibration analysis of hard disk drive (HDD) spindle systems with multiple thin disks, supported by two ball bearings based on the finite element model. This is the extension of the previous work which analytically modeled every system component taking into account its structural flexibility and also the centrifugal stiffening effect especially for the disks. Among the end results, the forced time response is expectedly useful for the vibration control of the spindle itself or the position servo control of the magnetic head. On the other hand, the steady state responses such as the frequency response function and the unbalance response are useful for system identification. Futhermore, through a coordinate transformation the equations of motion is also derived with respect to the inertial frame for convenient analyses of certain classes.
