  • In this paper, the double conversion gate mixer using a half-LO frequency is described at 25 GHz band. The proposed mixer uses two HEMTs excited by a single LO signal of half-LO frequency in order to generate the second IF signal. That is, the LO signal having the half-LO frequency is only fed into the gate of the first HEMT mixer as a normal gate mixer. The LO signal through the first mixer is find into the second mixer The proposed miler requires not only half of the normal LO frequency, but also lower LO power than the conventional subharmonically pumped milers. Over the bandwidth of 500 MHz at 24.5 GHz, the conversion gain is 2.5 dB, the noise figure is 9 dB, and the isolation between RF and LO port is 32 dB when the LO poller is 0 dBm at 12.65 GHz.

  • The fibrogram theory is newly derived from the superposition principle of the conventional staple diagram, in which the left-hand ends of the fibers have to share a common starting point in order for the fiber length distribution to be measured, and the right-hand ends of the fibers form points. It is shown that the fibrogram is the staple diagram of the fiber sample having different random starting points, as well as the double cumulative distribution function of the frequency length function in the length biased sample. Also, the various means, viz. the numerical mean length, numerical mean length in median, length biased mean length, and length biased mean length in median, and the various upper half means, viz. the numerical upper half mean length, numerical upper half mean length in median, length biased upper half mean length, and length biased upper half mean length in median, are discussed in relation to the cotton blending process.

  • A half-height waveguide power combiner is designed and analyzed for Ka-band satellite application. The branch line directional coupler is utilized as a power combiner to achieve high port-to-port isolation and low insertion loss. The half height waveguide is adopted to reduce the volume and mass of a power combiner. In this paper a half height waveguide power combiner is designed and analyzed by FDTD and its performance is compared with that of a full-height waveguide power combiner. The designed half-height combiner having optimum order is manufactured and tested. The measurement shows that the designed half-height power combiner satisfies all the performance requirements (insertion loss less than 0.3 dB, reflection loss more than 20dB, port to port isolation more than 20 dB, and port to port phase difference within 5$^{\circ}$) in the satellite communication frequency band of 20.255 GHz to 21.255 GHz.

  • In this study a numerical method for soil-pile interaction analysis buried in multi-layered half planes is presented in frequency domain using FE-BE coupling. The total soil-pile interaction system is divided into two parts so called far field and near field beam elements are used for modeling a pile and coupled with plain strain elements for soil modeling. Boundary element formulation using the multi-layered dynamic fundamental solution is adopted to the far field and coupled with near field modeled by finite elements. In order to verify the proposed soil-pile interaction analysis method the dynamic responses of a pile on multi-layered dynamic fundamental solution is adopted to the far field and coupled with near field modeled by finite elements. In order to verify the proposed soil-pile interaction analysis method the dynamic responses of a pile on multi-layered half-planes are performed and compared with experiment results. Through this developed method the dynamic response analysis of a pile buried in multi-layered half planes can be calculated effectively in frequency domain.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the style of the windsurfing suits and to extract main expressional words for the development of semantic differential scales of visual images according to the change in the style of windsurfing suits. The results of this study are as follows: 1) By a period of activity and its functions of windsurfing suits, they were classified into dry suit, wet suit, semi-dry suit and warm water. 2) Windsurfing suits were assorted into 4 kinds of designs: the design #1 on a suit with long sleeves and long pants, the design #2 on a suit with half sleeves and long pants, the design #3 on a suit with half sleeves and half pants, and the design #4 on sleeveless and half pants. 3) Main expressional words of visual images for windsurfing suits differ greatly depending on the design of windsurfing suits. The visual images for the design #1 are ranked in the order of 'sporty', 'looking like arms that are slim', 'looking like thighs that are slim', 'looking slim', 'neatbbb, 'practical', 'difficult to wear'. The visual images for the design #2 are placed in the order of 'sporty', 'dynamic', 'practical', 'cheerful', 'light'. The visual images for the design #3 are ranked in the order of 'sporty', 'dynamic', 'light', 'cheerful', 'masculine', 'practical'. The visual images for the design #4 are placed in the order of 'sporty', 'dynamic', 'simple', 'light', 'uncomfortable', 'easy to wear', 'looking like arms that are fat'.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the kinematic characteristics and muscle activities during the following two conditions: transition from half-kneel to standing on the affected leg and non-affected leg. Methods: Twenty-one hemiplegic patients participated in the study. A motion analysis system was used to record the range of motion and angle velocity of the hip, knee and ankle from the half-kneel to the standing position. Electromyography was used to record the activity of 4 muscles. Results: The statistical analysis showed that the minimum ROM of the hip joint was less on the affected leg during transition from half-kneel to standing. However, the minimum ROM of the knee and ankle joints was less on the non-affected leg during transition from half-kneel to standing. The angle velocity of the knee and ankle joints was less during transition from half kneeling to standing on the non-affected leg. Muscle activity of the rectus femoris and tibialis anterior was less while moving from half-kneel to the standing position on the affected leg. Conclusion: These results show that greater active ROM of the knee and ankle was required on the affected leg for transition from half-kneel to the standing position than for normal gait. Muscle activity of the rectus femoris and tibialis anterior is normally required for movement from the half-kneel to the standing position during normal gait. Further studies are needed to investigate the antigravity movement in healthy subjects and hemiplegic patients in order to completely understand the normal and abnormal movement from the half-kneel to the standing position.

  • This paper is shown that the impulse and unit step response of second-order system can be computed by the analytic methods using Laplace transform. Also, the transient response specifications are explicitly formulated by the peak undershoot and maximum overshoot of the step response. Three different second-order systems are investigated: prototype system, system with LHP(left half plane) real zero, and system with RHP(right half plane) real zero. Based on these analytic results, this paper presents the sufficient and necessary conditions for the second-order linear SISO(single-input/single-output) stable system to have the nonovershooting or monotone nondecreasing step response.

  • This study is carried out to investigate the printing culture in current Chollanamdo province. Searching the publication in Naju during the Chosun dynasty, 89 titles were found, where publication had begun from early Koryo dynasty. Active Publication was initiated from the era of King Jungjong and many books were published in 16th and 19th centuries. Many Confucian books were published dominantly in the first half of the Chosun dynasty, and collective literature and genealogical records in the later half. In the first half of the dynasty, most of books were published by the order of a king, the officer of province, or an individual, and, in the later half, increasingly collective literature and genealogical records were published by an individual or a family. Also woodblocks were used in the first half of the dynasty, wooden types in the later half.

  • This paper focuses on the development of a new SPD (severe plastic deformation) process named HCAE (half channel angular extrusion). HCAE technology is based on principled similar to ECAE, but imposes a larger amount and more effective plastic deformation on materials. The amount of shear deformation can be altered by varying the process parameters. Finite element analyses of HCAE were conducted in order to investigate the characteristics of deformation during HCAE and the simulated results show that the predicted value of imposed plastic strain in a single pass reaches 2.5.
