  • Objectives : The aim of this study is to investigate the possibility of acupuncture to influence thyroglossal cyst. Methods : Acupuncture treatment was applied on several acupoints in the afternoon three to four times a week for 12 weeks. The effect of acupuncture treatment was evaluated with Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and THYROID USG manipulated by a specialist in radiology. Results : VAS was decreased from 10 to 2, and this effect occurred in the first half of the treatment period. THYROID USG scan has shown that acupuncture treatment reduced the depth of the cyst approximately 6 ㎜ in the first half of the period, but not in the latter half. Conclusions : From this study, we suggest that acupuncture may take part in the treatment of thyroglossal cyst.

  • In this problem the ragid punch in the form of a flat-ended circular cylinder of unit radius is cemented to the stress free surface of an elastic half-space. An axial load P is then applied to the punch to force it into half-space to depth $\varepsilon$. It is assumed that the adhesive between the punch and can be reduced to the system of Abel type integral equations which are equation (13) and (14). It is also shown that the stress and displacement components on the portions of boundary where they are not prescribed can be expressed in terms of $\phi(t)$ and/or $\phi(t)$ which are introduced in equation (9) and (10). Those functions can be obtained from the solution of the system of integral equations (13) and (14).

  • We report the circumferential alignment of human aortic smooth muscle cells (HASMCs) in an orthogonally micropatterned circular microfluidic channel to form an in vivo-like smooth muscle cell layer. To realize a biomimetic smooth muscle cell layer which is aligned perpendicular to the axis of blood vessel, we first fabricated a half-circular polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microchannel by soft lithography using a convex PDMS mold. The orthogonally micro wrinkle patterns were generated inside the half-circular microchannel by stretching-releasing operation under UV irradiation. Upon UV treatment with uniaxial 40 % stretch of a PDMS substrate and releasing process, the microwrinkle patterns perpendicular to the axial direction of the circular microchannel were generated, which could guide the circumferential alignment of HASMCs successfully during cultivation. The analysis of orientation angle, shape index, and contractile protein marker expression indicates that the cultured HASMCs revealed the in vivo-like cell phenotype. Finally, we produced circular microchannels by bonding two half-circular microchannels, and cultured the HASMCs circumferentially with high alignment and viability for 5 days. These results are the first demonstration for constructing an in vivo-like 3D smooth muscle cell layer in the circular microfluidic channel which can provide novel bioassay platforms for in-depth study of HASMC biology and vascular function.

  • With the development of VR technology, the visual immersion of VR games has been greatly enhanced nowadays. There has been an issue that has been troubling players in previous VR games, which is motion sickness. Therefore, VR games have been limited in terms of game mechanics, game duration, and game scale, greatly reducing the immersive experience of visual immersion. However, <Half-Life: Alyx> is different from previous VR games in that players can actually perform spatial displacement in the game scene, rather than being fixed in one place for 360-degree observation and interaction. At the same time, compared to traditional games, VR games no longer need to rely on screens, and the complete visual immersion enhances the fun and playability of the game. This research focuses on the VR game <Half-Life: Alyx> to explore its immersive factors in terms of visual perception. Through in-depth analysis of elements such as color, texture mapping, lighting, etc. in VR games, it was found that the game creates a strong sense of visual immersion in these aspects. Through analysis, it is helpful to gain a deeper understanding of the factors that contribute to visual immersion in VR games, which has certain reference value for game developers and related professionals.

  • In this paper, two dimensional vertical and comer infinite elements which can include multiple wave components to model underlying half space are developed. These elements are natural and economical to model underlying stiff half space or rock. To verify the behavior of these infinite elements, vertical, horizontal, and rocking compliances of a rigid strip foundation on a viscoelastic soil profile are analyzed and compared with those of Tzong and Penzien who used the boundary solution method. Good agreements are noticed between the two methods. The influence of material properties like Poisson's ratio, material damping, and stiffness ratio of layers as well as the influence of geometrical properties such as layer thicknesses and depth of foundation embedment are studied. Example analysis is carried out for the shaking table which is located in KIMM(Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials), and the vertical and horizontal displacements of the analysis are compared with the measured, and show good results and demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

  • This study was intended to find the body pattern of the middle-aged women and to make new experimental basic pattern for upper-half of the body for them. To analyze the body pattern of middle-aged women, the methodologies of measurement of the individual part of the body, group aged-analysis, Rohrer Index, Vervaeck Index, factor analysis, discriminant analysis, cluster analysis and girth index were used. The comparison of the twentieth to the thirtieth, the fortieth and the fiftieth showed bigger change in the thirtieth and the biggest change in the fortieth in girth. The fiftieth showed thick body pattern by increasing the depth but decreasing the girth. Body types were divided into three groups, thin, standard and fatty troupes by Rohrer index. With Rohrer Index, there was no difference for back length in three groups, but girth showed shorter in thin and standard groups but longer in fatty group.

  • The aim of this paper is to study the propagation of torsional surface waves in non-homogeneous isotropic layer of finite thickness placed over a homogeneous viscoelastic half-space, when both density and rigidity of the non-homogeneous medium are assumed to vary exponentially with depth. The frequency equations are obtained by using simple method of separation of variables. Further, it is seen that when viscoelastic parameter and non-homogeneity parameter is neglected, the dispersion equation gives the dispersion equations of Love waves in homogeneous, elastic and isotropic layer placed over homogeneous viscoelastic medium. The problem has been solved numerically and the effects of various inhomogeneities of the medium on torsional waves have been illustrated graphically.

  • Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) has been etched by sputtering in the presence of argon gas and the resulting surface modifications investigated via weight loss, time of water permeation, half value period, scanning electron microscope(SEM) and color difference measurements. According to increasing sputter etching time, weight loss increased, the time of water permeation and half value period of the sputter etched PET fabrics decreased. Color depth of fabrics increased by increasing sputter etching time. We investigated the fabric surface modification by SEM. Many microcraters on the fabric surface formed by the sputter etching resulted in increase of surface area of the fabric and wettability.

  • Recently, the use of floating hologram has increased in many different aspects, such as exhibitions, education, advertisements, and so on. Especially, the floating hologram that makes use of half-mirror is widely used. Nevertheless, half-mirror, unfortunately, cannot lead users to the perfect three dimensional hologram experience. Even though it can make the vision look to be up on the air, it does not have the capacity to display itself up on the air, which is the ultimate goal of hologram. In addition, it looks inconsistent when a real object is located behind the half-mirror in order to show the convergence of the two (object and the half-mirror). In this paper, we did the study on comparison of 3D space perception for the stereoscopic AR holography. At first, we applied stereoscopic technology to the half-mirror hologram system for the accurate and realistic AR environment. Then, the users can feel as if the real 3D object behind half-mirror and the reflected virtual image are converged much better in the 3D space. Furthermore, by using depth camera, the location and direction of graphics can be controlled to change depending on the user's point of view. This is the effective way to produce augmented stereoscopic images simply and accurately through half-mirror film without any additional devices. What we saw from the user test were applying 3D images and user interaction leads the users to have 3D spatial awareness and realism more effectively and accurately.

  • We design a slotted waveguide antenna for X-band which a 1.4m length with slot depth variation. A 54 slot array is modeled and simulated by CST, and the side lobe level is suppressed effectively in a certain range of frequency. The experimental results of the antenna show that its gain, maximum sidelobe level and half power beam-width are 21.8dB, -31dB and 2.0deg, respectively.
