The injection mold cooling circuit optimization was studied with a response surface method in the previous research. It took so much time to find an optimum solution for a large product due to an extensive amount of calculation time for the CAE analysis. In order to use the optimization technique in the actual design process, the calculation time should be much reduced. In this study, we tried to reduce the number of design variables with the concept of the close relationship between the depth and the distance of cooling channel. The optimum ratio of the distance to the depth of cooling channels for a 2-dimensional problem was 2.0 so that the optimum ratio was again sought out for 4 large automotive parts. Therefore, the number of design variables for the cooling circuit optimization can be reduced in half, resulting in much faster running time for the optimization as a design tool.

The major cooling effect of the injection molds for large products rely on baffle tubes. The optimum ratio of the distance to the depth for baffle tubes was 2.0 for the large products. The result enables us to reduce the number of the design variables by half in the cooling system optimization problem.

A Cold spot temperature control system for the batch annealing furnace has been estabilished in order to reduce energy consumption to improve productivity and stabilize the propertics of products. Therefore we confirmed a relation between annealing cycle time and atmospheric gas, variation of coil cold spot temperature with time during heating and actual temperature measurements at mid-width of each coil during heating and actual temperature measurements at mid-width of each coil during soaking. The results of the tempaeature variation effect on the batch annealing are as follows. 1) Heating time is reduced to one half with increasing atmospheric gas flow rate and changing of atmospheric gas component from HNx to Ax gas, and annealing cycle time is reduced to 2.7 times. 2) In case of short time healing, the slowest heating part is the center of B coil, in case of long time heating, the low temperature point moves from the center of coil to inside coil. And the temperature in this part is higher than other parts when cooling. When finished heating, the cold spot is located 1/3 of coil inside in case of HNx atmospheric gas. But center of coil in case of Ax atmospheric gas. 3) The outside of top coil is the highest temperature point when heating, which becomes the lowest temperature point when cooling. So, this point becomes high temperature zone at heating and low temperature zone at cooling, It has relation according to atmospheric gas component and flow rate. 4) Soaking time at batch annealing cycle determination is made a decision by the input coil width, and soaking time for quality homogenization of 1214mm width coil must be 2.5 hours longer than that of 914mm width coil for the same ciol weight. 5) Annealing cycle time with Ax atmospheric gas is extended 1 hour in of slow cooling during 5 hours in order to avoid rapid cooling.
The effects of precooling treatments on the storability of chicon were investigated during modified atmosphere (MA) storage. The forced air cooling showed faster precooling rate that reduced the internal temperature of chicon to $2{\pm}1^{\circ}C$, and the precooling time of forced air cooling was 1/6 of room cooling. The half cooling time was 3 hr 21 min in room cooling and 1 hr 17 min in forced air cooling. Weight loss was less than 0.5% in all treatments both $5^{\circ}C$ and $10^{\circ}C$ MA storage and maintained higher in forced air cooling treatment. The concentration of carbon dioxide, oxygen, and ethylene of $50{\mu}m$ ceramic film packages were observed higher at $10^{\circ}C$ than $5^{\circ}C$. The precooling effect on respiration reduction was not shown at $5^{\circ}C$, but appeared that the gas concentration of precooling treatments showed less carbon dioxide and higher oxygen than non precooling treatment by 9 days after $10^{\circ}C$ storage. Ethylene concentration of precooling treatments showed lower than non precooling treatment until 3 days both $5^{\circ}C$ and $10^{\circ}C$ MA storage. Precooling showed the effect on maintaining visual quality of chicon both $5^{\circ}C$ and $10^{\circ}C$ MA storage. However, the forced air cooling that showed faster precooling rate did not appeared more precooling effect on the visual quality than room cooling because the fast air flow (6.0 m/sec) of forced air cooling hit directly on chicon outer leaves and might cause physical damage to chicon. Although the forced air cooling showed the effect on maintaining quality of chicon, but additional studies should be needed that investigated proper air flow rate and cooling box structure can prevent physical damage by air flow.
A novel cooling method induced by acoustic streaming generated by ultrasonic vibration at 30㎑ is presented. Ultrasonic vibration is obtained by piezoelectric devices and the maximum vibration amplitude of 50 m is achieved by including a horn, mechanical vibration amplifier in the system and making the complete system resonate. To investigate the enhancement of heat transfer capability of acoustic streaming, the temperature variations of heat source and air in the vicinity of heat source are measured in real-time. It is observed that acoustic streaming is instantly induced by ultrasonic vibration, resulting in the significant temperature drop due to the bulk air flow caused by acoustic streaming. In addition, it is observed that the cooling effect on the heat source is maximized when the gap between the ultrasonic vibrator and heat source coincides with the multiples of half-wavelength of the ultrasonic wave. This fact results from the resonance of the sound wave. The theoretical analysis of the dependence on the gap is also accomplished and verified by experiment. The advantage of the proposed cooling method by acoustic streaming is noise-free due to the ultrasonic vibration and maintenance-free because of the absence of moving parts. Moreover. This cooling method can be utilized to the nano and micro-electro mechanical systems, where the fan-based conventional cooling method can not be employed.
Blending process of adhesive production has a cooling process to cool down the temperature of the solution which was heated up to 76 ℃ with a mineral insulated (MI) cable by 30 ℃ at room temperature. Using a MI cable in the adhesive production process makes the production inefficient because it takes about 10 h for the cooling process. If a jacketed vessel is used instead of the MI cable, it would shorten the cooling downtime without any additional cooling system by using cold water. However, there are various types of jacketed vessels, and thus the most suitable type should be found before set up. In this study, we designed the optimized jacketed vessel for the adhesive production process by calculating the cooling downtime, which impacts production efficiency, as a function of the jacket types using computational fluid dynamics. As a result, the cooling performance of the plain jacket was 32.7% superior to that of the half-pipe coil jacket with the same height. In addition, the plain jacket with 60% spiral baffle reduced the cooling downtime and operating time by 80.4% and 25.1%, respectively.

The spent nuclear fuel is burned during the planned cycle in the plant and then generates elements such as actinide series, fission products, and plutonium with a long half-life. An 'interim storage' step is needed to manage the high radioactivity and heat emitted by nuclides until permanent-disposal. In the case of Korea, there is no space to dispose of high-level radioactive waste after use, so there is a need for a period of time using interim storage. Therefore, the intensity of neutrons and gamma-ray must be determined to ensure the integrity of spent nuclear fuel during interim storage. In particular, the most important thing in spent nuclear fuel is burnup evaluation, estimation of the source term of neutrons and gamma-ray is regarded as a reference measurement of the burnup evaluation. In this study, an analysis of spent nuclear fuel was conducted by setting up a virtual fuel burnup case based on CE16×16 fuel to check the total amount and spectrum of neutron, gamma radiation produced. The correlation between BU (burnup), IE (enrichment), and CT (cooling time) will be identified through spent nuclear fuel burnup calculation. In addition, the composition of nuclide inventory, actinide and fission products can be identified.
Activity ratio of two radioactive primary fission products which had sufficiently different half-lives was expressed as functions of cooling time and irradiation histories in which average burnup, irradiation time, cycle interval time and the dominant fissile material of the spent fuel were included. The gamma-ray spectra of 36 samples from 6 spent PWR fuel assemblies irradiated in Kori unit-1 reactor were obtained by a spectrometric system equipped with a high purity germanium gamma-ray detector. Activity ratio $^{l44}$Ce $^{l37}$Cs, analyzed from each spectrum, was used for the calculation of cooling time. The results show that the radioactive fission products $^{l44}$Ce and $^{l37}$Cs are considered as useful monitors for cooling time determination because the estimated cooling time by detection of activity ratio $^{l44}$Ce $^{l37}$Cs agreed well with the operator declared cooling time within relative difference of $\pm$5 % despite the low counting rate of the gamma-ray of $^{l44}$Ce (about 10$^{-3}$ count per second). For the samples with several different irradiation histories, the determined cooling time by modeled irradiation history showed good agreement with that by known irradiation history within time difference of $\pm$0.5 year. From this result, it would be expected to be possible to estimate reliably the cooling time of spent nuclear fuel without the exact information about irradiation history. The feasibility study on identification of and/or sorting out spent nuclear fuel by applying the technique for cooling time determination was also performed and the result shows that the detection of activity ratio $^{l44}$Ce $^{l37}$Cs by gamma-ray spectrometry would be usefully applicable to certify spent nuclear fuel for the purpose of safeguards and management in a facility in which the samples dismantled or cut from spent fuel assemblies are treated, such as the post irradiation examination facility.mination facility.

A cold temperature control system for the BAF(batch annealing furnace) has been established in order to reduce energy consumption to imrpove productivity and stabilize the properties of products. Therefore we confirmed a relation between annealing cycle time and atmospheric gas, changing annealing cycle time according to BAF temperature with time during heating and actual temperature measurements cold spot during soaking. The results of the temperature variation effect on the batch annealing are as follows. 1) Cooling rate is increasing gradually with increasing atmospheric gas flow, but heating rate is hardly increasing without atmospheric gas component. Heating time is reduced to one half with increasing atmospheric gas flow rate and changing of atmospheric gas component from HNx to Ax gas and annealing cycle time is reduce to 2.7 times. 2) With enlarging the difference between furnace temperature and soaking temperature at the HNx BAF, heating time becomes short, but cooling time is indifferent. 3) If temperature difference of 300.deg. C in the temperature change of cold spot according to the annealing cycle control temperature, Hi-CON/H2BAF is interchanging at each other at 26hours, but HNxBAF at 50 hours. 4) Soaking time at batch annealing cycle determination is made a decision by the input coil width, and soaking time for quality homogenization of 1219 mm width coil must be 2.5 hours longer then that of 914mm width coil for the same coil weight at Hi-CON/H2BAF. But, it is necessary to make 2 hours longer at HNxBAF.

Purpose: Quick freezing is widely used in commercial food storage. Well-known freezing techniques such as individual quick freezing require a low-temperature coolant and small cuts for the heat-transfer efficiency. However, the freezing method for bulk food resembles techniques used in the 1970s. In this study, electromagnetic (EM) heating was applied to improve the quick freezing of bulk food. Methods: During freezing, the surface of food can be rapidly cooled by an outside coolant, but the inner parts of the food cool slowly owing to the latent heat from the phase change. EM waves can directly heat the inner parts of food to prevent it from freezing until the outer parts finish their phase change and are cooled rapidly. The center temperature of garlic cloves was probed with optical thermo sensors while liquid nitrogen (LN) was sprayed. Results: When EM heating was applied, the center cooling time of the garlic cloves from freezing until $-10^{\circ}C$ was 48 s, which was approximately half the value of 85 s obtained without EM heating. For the white radish cubes, the center cooling time was also improved, from 288 to 132 s. The samples frozen by LN spray with EM heating had a closer hardness to the unfrozen samples than the samples frozen by LN only. Conclusions: The EM heating during quick freezing functions to maintain the hardness of fresh food by reducing the freezing time from 0 to $-10^{\circ}C$.
