Performance Improvement of the Tank Gun-Pointing System Stabilized Drive (전차포 표적지향 시스템의 안정화ㆍ구동성능 향상연구)

  • Objective technology development has been carried out aiming performance improvement of the stabilized gun-pointing system for Type-4 tank. The full nonlinear simulation programs with gun bending modes and nonlinearities were developed to estimate, analyze and design the driving and stabilization system, and validated through the comparisons between simulations and test results of the existing Type-1 tank. The prototype is designed, fabricated, tested and evaluated on the test range as well as in the laboratory and followed by development and operational tests. The performance test results on stationary and on-the-move conditions are turned out to be superior to those of the advanced tanks developed in foreign countries.

  • A novel white-LED (light emitting diode) backlight system for 46"LCD TVs which involves the average current controlled X-Y channel driving method is proposed, which is composed of 1 converter and row and column channel switches. In the conventional X-Y channel driving driven with a constant voltage source, the driving current of LED increases because the threshold voltage of LED decreases when LED temperature goes up. To maintain the luminance of backlight constant, the average current controlled X-Y channel driving will be employed. Finally the results are confirmed by experimental results.

  • An electromagnetic launcher (EML) system accelerates and launches a projectile by converting electric energy into kinetic energy. There are two types of EML systems under development: the rail gun and the coil gun. A railgun comprises a pair of parallel conducting rails, along which a sliding armature is accelerated by the electromagnetic effects of a current that flows down one rail, into the armature and then back along the other rail, but the high mechanical friction between the projectile and the rail can damage the projectile. A coil gun launches the projectile by the attractive magnetic force of the electromagnetic coil. A higher projectile muzzle velocity needs multiple stages of electromagnetic coils, which makes the coil gun EML system longer. As a result, the installation cost of a coil gun EML system is very high due to the large installation site needed for the EML. We present a coil gun EML system that has a new structure and arrangement for multiple electromagnetic coils to reduce the length of the system. A mathematical model of the proposed coil gun EML system is developed in order to calculate the magnetic field and forces, and to simulate the muzzle velocity of a projectile by driving and switching the electric current into multiple stages of electromagnetic coils. Using the proposed design, the length of the coil gun EML system is shortened by 31% compared with a conventional coil gun system while satisfying a target projectile muzzle velocity of over 100 m/s.

  • This paper presents development of a vehicle lateral and longitudinal control for autonomous driving control and test results obtained using an electric vehicle. Sliding control theory has been used to develop a vehicle speed and distance control algorithm. The longitudinal control algorithm that maintains safety and comfort of the vehicle consists of a cruise and STOP&GO control depending on traffic conditions. Desired steering angle is determined through the lateral position error and the yaw angle error based on preview optimal control. Motor control inputs have been directly derived from the sliding control law. The performance of the autonomous driving control which is integrated with a lateral and longitudinal control is investigated by computer simulations and driving test using an electric vehicle.   • To meet an increasing demand for high performance in gun dynamic plant, both a precise and a fast response positioning are strongly required for the gun servomechanism control. A mode switching control(MSC) system, which includes a fine stabilizing controller, fast positioning one and a switching function, is widely used to meet this requirement. Stabilization is performed through PID controller, while proximate time optimal servo(PTOS) is used for target designation. Because gun dynamic have large damping comparing to acceleration, PTOS algorithm with damping is newly derived. This paper adopts the initial value compensation method that improve the transient response after switching. Some simulation results are given to show the effectiveness of our scheme.

  • The LCD TV has many variable functions for consumer. Low temperature driving below minus 20 degree is also one of key functions. Since LCD is not self-luminance device, it is needed backlight system. Recently EEFL(External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp) widely substitutes for CCFL(Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp). It is more cheaper, higher efficiency, and easy to drive parallel connection compared to CCFL. In this paper, several conditions for low temperature driving of EEFL are investigated and a new boost-half bridge inverter for low temperature driving is proposed. Mode analysis is described and experimental results is represented to verify validity of the proposed inverter.

  • In next-generation electric vehicles, research is being conducted on an in-wheel motor system that directly controls torque by each wheel to improve total cost and driving performance. Accordingly, in this paper, a study was conducted on an algorithm that distributes the torque applied to each wheel in a torque vectoring system applied to an in-wheel motor for driving an electric vehicle. In order to implement a vehicle model that applies actual vehicle characteristic parameters according to vehicle driving and steering, a simulation was conducted in the MATLAB Simulink environment, and it was confirmed that torque distribution was performed according to the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper describes a fault-tolerant driving control strategy for an independent steer-by-wire system in sixwheel-drive/six-wheel-steering vehicles. An algorithm has been designed to realize vehicle maneuverability that is as close as possible to that of non-faulty vehicles by inducing high slip ratio of the wheel through a faulty steer-by-wire system in order to reduce the lateral tire force, which is resistant to the yaw motion. Considering the transition of the longitudinal tire force of a wheel with a faulty steer-by-wire component, the longitudinal tire forces are optimally distributed to the other wheels. Fault-tolerant driving performance has been investigated via computer simulations. Simulation studies show that the proposed algorithm can significantly improve the maneuverability of a vehicle with a faulty steer-by-wire system as compared to the optimal traction distribution method.
