Assessment of the Hydraulic Conductivity of the Furnace Slag Coated with the Mixture of Bentonite-sepiolite-guargum under Sea Water Condition (벤토나이트-해포석-구아검 혼합물질이 코팅된 제강슬래그의 해수에 대한 투수성 평가)

  • Bentonite has been generally used as vertical cutoff barrier material and reported to have several problems regarding its low workability, drying shrinkage cracking by particle cohesion, and ineffective waterproof ability under sea water condition. In this study, the particle sealant, the furnace slag coated by the mixture of bentonite, sepiolite and guargum, was developed to compensate these weak points and the hydraulic conductivity of the particle sealant was evaluated. Drying shrinkage cracking and swelling index was estimated to find the optimal mixing ratio of bentonite, sepiolite and guargum. The hydraulic conductivity of the particle sealants having different amount of sealant (bentonite-sepioliteguargum mixture) coating the furnace slag was estimated using the rigid wall permeameter and flexible wall permeameter. The results showed that drying shrinkage cracking was not found in the bentonite-sepiolite mixture with 20% sepiolite contents and the results from free swelling tests for the sealant having 1 : 0.025, 1 : 0.05 and 1 : 0.075 of weight ratios of bentonite-sepiolite mixture and guargum under simulated sea water condition were higher than those for the bentonitesepiolite mixture without guargum under tap water condition. These three sealants were coated on the furnace slag with 50% and 60% of sealant in the particle sealant and the hydraulic conductivity was estimated. In the cases of the particle sealants having 20% sepiolite in the bentonite-sepiolite mixture and 1 : 0.075 weight ratio of the bentonite-sepiolite mixture and guargum, the hydraulic conductivity from the rigid wall permeameter was below $1.0{\times}10^{-7}$ cm/sec under simulated sea water condition. The hydraulic conductivity of the particle sealant having $1.0{\times}10^{-6}$~$1.0{\times}10^{-7}$ cm/sec by the rigid wall permeameter was estimated using the flexible wall permeameter and found to be below $1.0{\times}10^{-7}$ cm/sec.

Changes of Rheology on the Dumpling Shell by added Materials (성분배합에 따른 만두피의 물성 변화)

  • This was studied to evaluate the rheology properties of the Dumpling shell added chitosans(commercial and prepared from fungal), polyphosphate, guargum and tapioca. The physicochemical properties of fungal chitosans (FCs95 and FCs 40) were as follows respectively. The nitrogen was 6.71% and 6.9%, the solubility 99.05% and 99.13%, the viscosity 2.23cps and 2.21cps, the acetylation 12.0% and 12.7% and the molecular weight 3.12${\times}$10$\^$5/Dalton and 3.01${\times}$10$\^$5/Dalton. From the above facts, the components and physicochemical properties of two kinds of fungal chitosan had little difference. The addition of polyphosphate, guargum and tapioca showed effect on the texture parameters(hardness, cohesiveness, springiness and gumminess) of Dumpling shell dough and the optimum addition concentration wag 0.074%, 6.59% and 0.062%(w/w), respectively. In case of chiotsans addition, texture of the dough by added SCs, FCs95 and FCs40 showed effect.

Effect of Gums on the Characteristics of the Dough in Making Frozen Dough (냉동생지 제조시 검류의 첨가가 반죽특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the possibilities of adopting xanthangum, guargum and ${\kappa}-carrageenan$ as cryprotectant by examining the rheological and structural properties of dough. Results of farinography showed that water absorption, development time and mechanical tolerance index in dough with the gums increased more than those of the control. It was also found that resistance in dough with the gums increased greatly, but extensibilities were similar to that of the control, resulting in increasing R/E values in the dough with the gums through extensograph. According to amylogram, gelatinization temperature of dough was $59.5^{circ}C$ and those of the dough with the gums were $58^{circ}C$. Even though maximum viscosity of the dough was 550 B.U in the control, those were 690 B.U, 780 B.U and 760 B.U in the dough with xanthangum, guargum, and ${\kappa}-carrageenan$, respectively. The control deeply increased the pH during frozen storage but the addition of ${\kappa}-carrageenan$ and xanthangum increased the pH slightly. The dough with the gums had more stable spaces than control in the microstructure through SEM.

  • 자연에서 얻어지는 고무질로서는 여러 가지 종류의 것이 많으나 한천, 알긴산염, 카라기난(Carrageenan), 퍼셀라란(furcellaran)등은 해조로부터 추출되며 Pectin, arabic gum, karaya gum, tragacanth gum, ghatti gum, guargum, 메뚜기콩고무(Locust been gum), 사이리엄고무(psyllium seed gum)등은 식물로부터 추출된다. 특히 이외에도 미생물에서 분비되는 고무질인 다당(多糖)으로는 dextran, curdlan, pullulau, 잔산고무(Xanthan gum)등도 최근에 알려진 고무질이다. 여기에서는 미생물이 생산하는 고무질인 다당(多糖)인 Xanthan gum이 새로히 식품첨가물로 지정되었기에 Xanthan gum의 발견내역, 성질, 생산과 응용면을 소개한다.

Effect of Gums Added in Making Frozen Dough on the Characteristics of Bread-making (냉동생지 제조시 검류의 첨가가 제빵특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the possibilities of using xanthangum, guargum and ${\kappa}-carrageenan$ as cryoprotectant by examining changes in water content, specific volume, and hardness of bread made from the doughs with gums at $-20^{\circ}C$ freezing chamber for 12 weeks. The specific volume of bread decreased with time. It decreased more sharply in the control. The bread with lowest specific volume had the highest value in the hardness. The bread with ${\kappa}-carrageenan$ showed the lowest value in the hardness. In the water-holding capacity of frozen dough, the bread with ${\kappa}-carrageenan$ had the highest value, and ${\kappa}-carrageenan$ was effective in the protection of the degradation in the quality of the frozen dough during the frozen storage. In the sensory evaluation, texture, color and appearance of the control and the breads with gums did not show the difference for 1 week, but the breads with gums showed the higher score than control in sensory characteristics in the frozen storage for 12 weeks. The bread with ${\kappa}-carrageenan$ showed the highest sensory score during the frozen storage. These results were summarized that ${\kappa}-carrageenan$ was most effective in the protection from the degradation of the quality of frozen dough during the frozen storage.

Environmental Assessment and Characteristic of Refuse Derived Fuel by Mixed Biomass with Binder (바이오매스에 바인더 첨가에 따른 폐기물 고형연료 특성 및 환경성평가)

  • The total area of forest land in Korea is 64.2%, and significant forest resources can continuously be produced. However our country didn't separate the recyclable waste wood and was illegal landfill or incinerated. In this study, waste-wood and rice husk of biomass and low-grade-anthracite made refuse derived fuel by mixing and compressing. In addition, the binding effect of binders and additives were analyzed. Physical and chemical characteristics of manufactured refuse derived fuel were analyzed and evaluated suitability by compared with quality standards. A result of change with compressed and relaxed density, added 20% anthracite and 10% rice husk is optimal density change and average density increased large range when 20 wt.% P.V.A., guargum, molasses and 10 wt.% starch were added. All fuel samples be distributed over 3,500 kcal/kg LHV and grade of No. 3~4 fuels appeared. A result of the characteristics of physical and chemical compressed biomass refuse derived fuel with addictive, 12.9% of durability improvement appeared when is mixing asphalt and 5.8% of durability improvement appeared when is mixing rice bran by pretreatment of NaOH 5%.
