Purpose: According to the recent occurrence statistics of ground accidents, ground subsidence and subsidence have become social problems as the frequency has increased centering around the downtown areas. This study tried to clarify risk of detailed factors which have an effect on subsidence. Method: For the study, detailed risk factors of 28 foundations were mainly drawn through the materials, precedent studies, and research reports shown by analyzing JIS' accident cases from 2016 to September 6, 2022 and by taking advice from an excavation expert. And risk was assessed by conducting a survey on 12 subsidence experts from the universities, research institutes, and industries and applying Fuzzy-FMEA to it. Result: It has found that damage of sewer pipes is 24.99% of overall risk, followed by excavation work (17.34%), water pipes (14.84%), and poor compaction (refill) (13.93%). And it has found that risk of damaging utilities (water pipes, sewer pipes, and other utilities) is highest, followed by poor construction works (excavation work, damage of sewer and water pipes, and other utility work) and poor compaction (refill). Conclusion: This shows that risk of subsidence factors judged by experts is similar with JIS' cases of ground subsidence.
The collapse behavior of ground subsidence caused by continuous loss of particles depends on the saturated condition and density of the ground. In this study, types of ground subsidence were classified based on the saturated condition and each type was performed on the different relative density to analyze the influence factors on the collapse behavior by distinct element method. According to analysis results, the relatively small amount of settlement occurred on the dense ground and a cavity was created under dense-unsaturated ground. In contrast, loose ground showed the large amount of settlement and collapsed immediately without cavity formation even if the unsaturated ground was simulated. The results demonstrated that because the relative density has influence on the mechanical interlocking and saturated condition has influence on the inter-particle force, these are important factors to change the collapse behavior.

Onshore wind farms having several problems, difficult to secure a building site and incur the enmity of the people. Therefore, offshore wind farms are increasingly expected, because there are huge resource and large site in offshore. If huge wind turbines are constructed, the offshore wind power base is concerned about subsidence. In order to confirm the ground stability, estimation of subsidence is necessary. In this paper, the subsidence is predicted by continuity model when the gravity and the mono-pile base are constructed on soft ground. The FLAC 3D, three dimensional FDM program, was adopted to analysis subsidence. Input factors are yielded by geological information at the yeompo quay in ulsan and the results of laboratory experiments. It has been compared that the original ground with improved ground under the gravity base, and constructed mono-pile under the mono-pile base.
An integrated 3D GIS-based approach for understanding underground environment is proposed and applied to a land subsidence in densely populated region. Bedrock and geological discontinues were treated as main factors in this study. Because land subsidence in this study area was caused by cavity owing to dissolved limestone in percolating ground water. Ground was classified according to bedrock types using a clustering method and geological information, N value, and RQD value of boreholes were visualized and integrated by 3D-GIS. Therefore it was possible to recognize underground space easily and analyze the ground information effectively.
Based on the previous studies on sinkholes and ground subsidence conducted until date, the factors affecting the occurrence of sinkholes can be divided into natural environmental factors and human environmental factors in accordance with the purpose of the study. Furthermore, to be more specific, the human environment can be classified into the artificial type and the social type. In this study, the assessment indices for assessing risks of sinkholes and ground subsidence were developed by performing AHP analysis based on the results of the study by Lee et al. (2016), who selected the risk factors for the occurrence of sinkholes by performing Delphi analysis targeting relevant experts. Analysis showed that the artificial environmental factors were of significance in affecting the occurrence of sinkholes. Explicitly, the underground factors were found to be of importance in the natural environment, and among them, the level of underground water turned out to be an imperative influencing factor. In the artificial environment, the underground and subterranean structures exhibited similar importance, and in the underground structures, the excessive use of the underground space was found to be an important influencing factor. In the subterranean ones, the level of water leakage and the erosion of the water supply and sewage piping system were the influential factors, and in the surface, compaction failure was observed as an imperative factor. In the social environment, the regional development, and above all, the groundwater overuse were found to be important factors. In the managemental and institutional environment, the improper construction management proved to be the most important influencing factor.

In recent years, the increasing trend of ground subsidence in major cities has caused social problems. Aged sewer pipeline as a main attribute for the subsidence is simply replaced and maintained according to a survey result with related to its buried period. However, other attributes and risk analysis for the subsidence have not been well studied yet. In this point, this study proposed various environmental and structural attributes with related to sewer pipelines and, then, a method of ground subsidence risk evaluation with a certain level of reliability. In order to find effective attributes to ground subsidence near to sewer, the nearest sewerage data were extracted at the location of subsidence in the City of Seoul, and a level of correlation was analyzed between subsidence and individual attribute. The effective weight factors for the proposed attributes was estimated through AHP analysis and its applicability was verified by comparing the actual subsidence data to the risk evaluation in the pilot study district of Seoul.
It is a method of suppressing back ground subsidence by re-injecting groundwater back to the target ground and recovering the underground water level. In order to analyze the subsidence of the back ground due to maintaining the underground water level, indoor model experiments were conducted. Through this study, the factors influencing on the groundwater and the tendency of subsidence back ground by experiments were analyzed and the effect of ground subsidence by reinfusion of groundwater was also investigated. As a result of the subsidence analysis with considering only the influence of the underground water level, the settlement of the ground occurs as the underground water level at the time of ground excavation goes down. The closer to the back of the retaining wall, the maximum settlement occurred. Moreover, it was analyzed that the influence distance where subsidence occurs from retaining wall to the point of about 1.8 H on the basis of the ground collapse. The most effective location of water reinjection is the closet location to the back of braced-cut wall for reducing the groundwater down and also minimizing the ground settlement.
Ground subsidence in urban areas is mainly caused by anthropogenic factors such as excessive groundwater extraction and underground infrastructure development in the subsurface composed of soft materials. Global Navigation Satellite System data with high temporal resolution have been widely used to measure surface displacements accurately. However, these point-based terrestrial measurements with the low spatial resolution are somewhat limited in observing two-dimensional continuous surface displacements over large areas. The synthetic aperture radar interferometry (InSAR) technique can construct relatively high spatial resolution surface displacement information with accuracy ranging from millimeters to centimeters. Although constellation operations of SAR satellites have improved the revisit cycle, the temporal resolution of space-based observations is still low compared to in-situ observations. In this study, we evaluate the extraction of a time-series of surface displacement in Incheon Metropolitan City, South Korea, using the small baseline subset technique implemented using the commercial software, Gamma. For this purpose, 24 COSMO-SkyMed X-band SAR observations were collected from July 12, 2011, to August 27, 2012. The time-series surface displacement results were improved by reducing random phase noise, correcting residual phase due to satellite orbit errors, and mitigating nonlinear atmospheric phase artifacts. The perpendicular baseline of the collected COSMO-SkyMed SAR images was set to approximately 2-300 m. The surface displacement related to the ground subsidence was detected approximately 1 cm annually around a few Incheon Subway Line 2 route stations. The sufficient coherence indicates that the satellite orbit has been precisely managed for the interferometric processing.

Accurate exploration of the risk factors of the ground subsidence is needed to predict and evaluate the subsidence of the surrounding ground due to the excavation of the ground. In this study, we analyzed the distribution of soil relaxation area by analyzing the behavior around the ground excavation site and simulated the GPR exploration under various conditions. As a result, Although there are some differences according to the water content, distribution of the strata and the distribution of the relaxation region were confirmed in the unsaturated soil, and it was found that there was a difficulty in the GPR exploration in the saturated soil.
This study is the numerical analysis for the ground stability assessment in ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$mine. The subsidence factors applied to the numerical analysis were as follows. First, the deterioration of the rock mass properties by excavation of the disturbed zone. Second, using the average lateral pressure coefficient of Korea. Third, a study of the mine history. Fourth, the excavating collapsed rock mass in numerical analysis based on the assumption that the rock mass around the goaf was collapsed due to the mining. The developed methods were applied to the cross section (5+10) of the actual subsidence in ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$mine. The feasibility of the numerical analysis methods was confirmed by providing the same results as those of the actual subsidence. Next, the developed methods were applied to the cross section (3+10) that had a high probability of subsidence and the ground stability was evaluated. The analysis results show that the vertical displacement for the 5+10 cross section occurs at a maximum of 46 mm, whereas the analysis results show that the vertical displacement for the 3+10 cross section occurs at a maximum of 7 mm. Hence, it is concluded that the probability for subsidence is low.
