The validation of a groundwater source heat pump system installation site is estimated by bydrogeothermic model ing. The hydraulic characteristics of the aquifer system is evaluated from pumping and recovery tests. In addition, the temperature distribution by the pumping and the injection of groundwater, and water level fluctuations are simulated by numerical modeling. The total cooling and heating load for the building is designed as 120RT(refrigeration ton) and the ground water source heat pump system covers 50RT as a subsidiary system The scenario of heat pump operation is organized as pumping and inject ion of groundwater that is performed for 8 hours per day in cooling mode for 90 days during the summer season The heat transfer by the injected warm water is limited near the inject ion wells in the simulated temperature distribution. The reason is that the given operation time is too short to expect broad thermal diffusion in large volume of the aquifer in the simulation time The simulated groundwater level and temperature distribution can be used as important data to develope an energy effective pumping and injection well system. Also it will be very useful to evaluate the hydraulic capacity of a target groundwater reservoir.
This paper describes the multi-heat pumps applied in an ground source heat pump system for an actual building. The performance of a ground source multi-heat pump installed in the field was investigated at heating season. The average COP of the systems with single U-tube and double tube type GLHXs were 4.8 and 5.0, respectively. It is needed to investigate the long term performance of double tube type GLHX, because the reduction of inlet temperature of OD HX for this GLHX was larger than it for U-tube GLHX.

Geothermal heat pump(GHP) systems have been shown to be an environmentally-friendly, efficient alternative to traditional cooling and heating systems in both residential and commercial applications. Although some experimental work related to performance evaluation of GHP systems with vertical borehole ground heat exchangers for commercial buildings has been done, relatively little has been reported on the performance simulation of these systems. The aim of this study is to evaluate the cooling and heating performance of the GHP system with 30 borehole ground heat exchangers applied to an commercial building($1,210m^2$) in Seoul. For this purpose, a typical design procedure was involved with a combination of design parameters such as building loads, heat pump capacity, circulating pump, borehole diameter, and ground effective thermal properties, etc. The cooling and heating performance prediction of the system was conducted with different prediction methods and then each result is compared.

Ground-coupled heat pump (GCHP) systems have become an efficient alternative to conventional cooling and heating methods due to their higher energy using efficiency. Although some experimental and simulation works related to performance analysis of GCHP systems for commercial buildings have been done, relatively little has been reported on the performance evaluation of GCHP systems for school buildings. The purpose of this simulation study is to evaluate the performance of a hypothetical GCHP system for a school building in Seoul. We collected various data of building specifications and construction materials for the building and then modeled to calculate hourly building loads with SketchuUp and TRNSYS V17. In addition, we used GLD (Ground Loop Design) V2016, a GCHP system design and simulation software, to design the GCHP system for the building and to simulate temperature of circulating water in ground heat exchanger. The variation of entering source temperature (EST) into the system was calculated with different prediction time and then each result was compared. For 20 years of prediction time, EST for baseline design (Case A) based on the hourly simulation results were outranged from the design criteria.

Recently, as the demand for sustainable energy sources is increasing, ground-source heat pump (GSHP) systems are receiving growing attention. However, the initial cost of GSHP system is higher than it of the conventional systems, especially, in small-size buildings. Therefore, for the application to the small-size building, it is necessary to develop small-size ground heat exchanger with small-size buildings. In this study, analysis of unit-type heat exchanger due to grouting materials. As a result, 1492.14 W of heat exchange rate was acquired in the condition of cement-silica sand-graphite materials.
This study was performed to acquire the reliable in-situ thermal conductivity of closed type ground heat exchanger used in ground source heat pump. We selected four sites(Cheonan, Daejeon, Daegu, Gwangju) which are central area of South Korea. Test results show that the effective thermal conductivities are 2.33 W/m$^{\circ}C$, 2.50 W/m$^{\circ}C$, 2.75 W/m$^{\circ}C$ and 2.86 W/m$^{\circ}C$. From this data, we can see that thermal conductivity varies about the range of 23% with the sites. Also, thermal conductivity increases up to 20% by changing grouting material from low salica sand to high one.
A ground source heat pump (GSHP) system can stable system operation by using underground heat source and has high reliability for energy production. However, wide-spread of the GSHP system is delayed to high initial investment costs. In previous studies, horizontal and unit-type ground heat exchanger (GHX) have developed to overcome disadvantages such as high initial cost. However, these performances of GHXs are greatly influenced by climate and weather conditions. It is necessary to analyze the performance of GHX according to the ground temperature change in the installation site. In this study, the ground temperature of each installation site confirmed and performance of unit-type GHX quantitatively analyzed by numerical analysis. As the result, the performance of the unit type GHX was 33.9 W/m in Seoul, 34.2 W/m in Daejeon, and 37.2 W/m in Busan. The result showed the difference performance of GHX according to local climate was maximum of 9.7%.

Due to reinforcement of international environment regulation and high oil prices, interest in renewable energy is growing. Countries participating in UNFCCC are continuously putting efforts in reducing greenhouse gas after enforcing Kyoto Protocol into effect on Feb, 2005. Energy used in buildings, which relies heavily on fossil fuel accounts for about 24% of total energy consumption. In this study, air, geothermal and water source heat pump systems for an 322 $m^2$ auditorium in an office building is simulated using TRNSYS version 17 for comparing energy consumptions. The results show that energy consumptions of air, geothermal and water source heat pumps are 14,485, 10,249, and 10,405 kWh, respectively. Annual equal payments which consider both initial and running costs become 5,734,521, 6,403,257 and 5,596,058 Won. Thus, water source heat pump is the best economical choice.

The aim of this study is to investigate the daily heating performance of ground source multi-heat pump system with vertical single U-tube type GLHXs, which were installed in a school building located in Cheonan. Daily average COP of heat pump unit on Jan. 12th, 2009 at heating mode was lower than it on Nov. 10th, 2008 and Dec. 15th, 2008, because of lower EWT of the outdoor heat exchanger and relatively smaller size of condenser and evaporator. But, the system COP on the former was higher than it on the latter because ground loop circulating pump was operated in rated speed. It is suggested that the new algorithms to control the flow rate of secondary fluid for GLHX according to load change have to be developed in order to enhance the performance of the system COP.
Greenhouses should be heated during nights and cold days in order to fit growth conditions in greenhouses. Ground source heat pump (GSHP) systems are recognized to be outstanding heating and cooling systems. A horizontal GSHP system with thermal storage tank was installed in greenhouse and investigated the performance characteristics. The reasons for using thermal storage tank were discussed in detail. Thermal storage tank can provide heat for heating load that is larger than GSHP system heating capacity. The results of study showed that the heating coefficient of performance of the heat pump system was 2.69.
