Effects of Precombustion Chamber Shape on the Start ability of Small Diesel Engine under the Cold Weather (소형(小型) 디젤엔진의 예연소실(豫燃焼室) 형상(形狀)이 냉시동성(冷始動性)에 미치는 영향(影響)에 관(關)한 실험적(實驗的) 연구(硏究))

  • The aim of this study was to improve the startability of the diesel engine at low temperature. The specific objective was to determine the optimum type of precombustion chamber. The eight different types of precombustion chamber and two different types of the cylinder head were designed and tested by $2^7$ factorial experiments with four replications. The lowest starting temperature for first operation, the maximum output, and the specific fuel consumption at full load and overload were checked and analyzed. The results of the study are summarized as follows; 1. The lowest starting temperature was lowered as much as $2.4^{\circ}C$ and the maximum output was increased as much as 0.3 ps with respect to the difference in the relative angle of the main passageway against the piston head from 20 degree to 18 degree. 2. The lowest starting temperature and the maximum out-put were lowered as much as $3.3^{\circ}C$ and 0.3 ps respectively with respect to the difference in the angle of the cylinder head groove from 20 degree to 18 degree. 3. The lowest starting temperature and the maximum out put were lowered as much as $2^{\circ}C$ and 0.2 ps respectively with respect to the difference in the length of the precombustion chamber from 17.5 mm to 15.5mm. 4. There was no significant difference in the startability but the maximum output was increased as much as 0.2 ps with respect to the difference in the diameter of the main passageway from 4.8mm to 4.5mm. 5. The lowest starting temperature was obtained under the condition at 47 degree in the angle of the main passageway and at 18 degree in the angle of the cylinder head groove. The maximum output and the minimum specific fuel consumption was obtained under the condition at 4.5mm in the diameter of the main passageway and at 17.5mm in the length of the precombustion chamber. 6. The angle of the cylinder head groove and the main passageway appeared to the major factors affecting the startability significantly. The interaction between the diameter of the main pass ageway and the length of the precombustion chamber had an significant influence on the maximum output. So it would be recommended to study further on the interaction between two factors mentioned above by expanding their levels. 7. The optimum condition suggested by this study could lower the starting temperature by $6^{\circ}C$ compared to the conventional precombustion chambers.

  • The performance of a newly generated steel connection known as SidePlateTM moment connection for seismic loading and progressive collapse phenomenon has been investigated in this paper. The seismic evaluation portion of the study included a thorough study on of interstory drift angles and flexural strengths based on 2010 AISC Seismic Provisions while the acceptance criteria provided in UFC 4-023-03 guideline to resist progressive collapse must be satisfied by the rotational capacity of the connections. The results showed that the SidePlate moment connection was capable of attaining adequate rotational capacity and developing full inelastic capacity of the connecting beam. Moreover, the proposed connection demonstrated an exceptional performance for keeping away the plastic hinges from the connection and exceeding interstory drift angle of 0.06 rad with no fracture developments in beam flange groove-welded joints. The test results indicated that this type of connection had strength, stiffness and ductility to be categorized as a rigid, full-strength and ductile connection.

A Study on Surface Fabrication of Super Hydrophobic using Pico Second Laser (피코초 레이저를 이용한 초소수성 표면 제작에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, a study for the functional surface production of super hydrophobic of natural and biomimetic artificial has attracted much attention. To make process methods of super hydrophobic surface has a variety of ways such as lithography, etching, and laser ablation. However, we were used ultra-shot pulse laser ablation process which has the virtue of more environmental friendliness and simple process. In this paper, we were fabricated a multiplicity of super hydrophobic patterns on mold surface(NAK80) using by optimizing the laser processing conditions and it was transferred on PDMS. Also, we measured contact angle super hydrophobic patterns on PDMS. The result showed there is no patterns on PDMS were measured 94 degrees, by contrast, optimized super hydrophobic patterns on PDMS was 157 degrees. Therefore we fabricated super hydrophobic surface on mold. Based on these experimental results, it is possible to mass production using ultra shot pulse laser ablation of super hydrophobic pattern and to be applied for a variety of industries.

A Study on the Effects of Products Section by Cutting Punch's Edge Angle during Roll Forming Process (롤 포밍 공정에서 컷팅 펀치 인선 각도가 제품 절단에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The roll forming produces mass products using the continuous production process. Also we need the process that continuous long material or goods cutting into a desired length. Our study uses 3-D driving cutter and roll forming material as SPCC to investigate this. When we cut the material using the process of roll forming, the shear resistance is raised at the cutting punch's edge. The result is remained the trouble about burr and progressive deformation on the material. This study shows the method minimizing the above trouble. The material of punch was considering heat generated on the continuous production process. So we used the type of STD 61 for the material of punch and had the vacuum heat treatment for the surface hardness of HRC 53. The structure of the mold is designed with forming a double cam die at the upper punch and the both sides of central core. We conducted the experiment three times. In the result when had to make V-groove within the angle between 105 and 110 on the punch front end, we could get the minimum shear resistance on the punch front end. Also with the same condition we minimizes the material jams in the continuous production process.

Results of Surgical Treatment of Patella Dislocation (슬개골 탈구의 수술적 치료 결과)

  • Purpose: Patellar dislocations have a range of causes. This study examined the results of treatment aimed at balancing soft tissues around the patella. Materials and Methods: Thirty-two patellar dislocations in 28 patients (21 females and seven males) were examined. The mean patient age at the time of surgery was 11.5 years, and the mean follow-up period was 4.6 years. Dislocations were 19 chronic, six habitual, six congenital, and one acute. Soft tissue balancing surgery included lateral capsular release, medial capsular plication, and inferolateral transfer of the vastus medialis obliquus. Medial transfer of the patellar tendon, partial strip of the rectus femoris and patella tendon, and distal femoral osteotomy were also performed selectively. The preoperative Q angle, femoral anteversion angle, tibial external rotation angle, tibial tubercle-trochlear groove distance (TT-TG distance), mechanical femoral-tibial angle, and femoral trochlear dysplasia according to Dejour were measured, and the pre- and postoperative Lysholm-Tegner scores were used to analyze the clinical results. Results: The mean preoperative Q angle, TT-TG distance, femoral anteversion angle, tibial external rotation angle, mechanical femoraltibia angle, and Lysholm-Tegner score were 9.3°, 15.5 mm, 25.6°, 30.4°, 3.0°, and 75.8, respectively. Eleven patients had systemic ligament laxity with a Beighton score of five or more. Twenty-two patients had femoral trochlear dysplasia: four type A (3 patients), 16 type B (15 patients), one type C (1 patient), and four type D (3 patients). Of the 32 cases, 28 were corrected successfully by the first operation. Of four cases of postoperative subluxation, three were corrected by the second operation, and one of them was corrected after a third operation. The last patient is currently being followed-up. The mean Lysholm-Tegner score improved to 85.6 after the operation. Conclusion: Correcting all the causes of patella dislocation simultaneously is difficult. Nevertheless, satisfactory outcomes were obtained with soft tissue balancing surgery around the patella and a corrective osteotomy for an abnormal mechanical axis of the femur-tibia and torsion.

Arthroscopically Assisted Lateral Release and Medial Imbrication for Recurrent Patella Dislocation (재발성 슬개골 탈구에서 관절경적 외측 유리술 및 내측부 중첩술)

  • Purpose: We reported the results of arthroscopically assisted lateral release and medial imbrication for the recurrent patella dislocation. Materials and Methods: Twenty patients (20 knees) underwent arthroscopically assisted surgery for the recurrent patella dislocation. There were 4 males and 16 female. The average age was 20.2 years. All patients had definite trauma history and average follow-up period was 19 months. The surgical results were evaluated according to the Lysholm knee score and the Kujala score. The congruence angle and lateral patellofemoral angle were measured on plain radiograph and the tibial tubercle-trochlear groove distance was calculated on computerized tomography. Results: The median value of preoperative congruence angle was $16.5^{\circ}$ (range, $0.0{\sim}+34^{\circ}$) and the average final follow-up was $-6.4^{\circ}$ (range, $-19{\sim}10^{\circ}$) with statistically significant improvement (p=0.025). The median value of preoperative Lysholm knee score was 70 (range, 63~81) and the final follow-up score had changed to 88 (range, 80~95) with statistically significant improvement (p=0.0341). The median value of preoperative Kujala score was 72 (range, 65~80) and the average final follow-up score showed 87 (range, 80~92) with statistically significant improvement (p=0.024). Recurrent dislocations after surgery occurred in 2 cases, one case which showed positive "thumb to forearm test" had been treated with medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction. Conclusion: Arthroscopically assisted lateral release and medial imbrication for recurrent patella dislocation without bony malaligmenent showed the effective treatment, but would be inappropriate for the patients with the generalized joint laxity.

  • Micro wires manufactured by the straightening process are used in the BT(Bio-Technology), IT(Information-Technology), NT(Nano-Technology). We have developed a novel wire straightener which uses the direct heating method(DHM) for straightening the micro wire and shearing device for burr-less cutting. In this study, we confirm the tendency of micro wire after the shearing process. It is impossible to remove the burr in the shearing process. However, the embodiment of minimum burr size after the shearing process is the best in-process method. In order to minimize the burr size, we have accomplished the various experiment condition such as the U-groove, the effect of the counter punch, the shear angle, clearance.

  • We have investigated the generation of pretilt angle for a nematic liquid crystal (NLC) alignment with rubbing alignment method on the two kinds of polyimide (PI) surfaces using thin plastic substrates. The NLC pretilt angles generated on thin plastic substrates are higher than that on the glass substrate. We study that AFM (atomic force microscope) image of rubbed PI surface with polymer film has formed the micro-groove. Also, EO characteristics of the TN-LCD with a rubbed PI surface based on polymer are almost the same as that of the TN-LCD with a rubbed PI surface based on glass.

Effects of Specimen Size in Evaluation of Elastic-Plastic Fracture Toughness by Ultrasonic Method (초음파법을 이용한 탄소성 파괴인성치 평가에 있어서 시험편 크기의 영향)

  • Elastic-plastic fracture toughness($J_{IC}$) by ultrasonic method is evaluated in terms of width and thickness. Widths of specimen in 6061-T6 aluminum alloy are 50mm and 100mm, thicknesses of those are 20mm and 25mm, respectively. Elastic-plastic fracture toughness by ultrasonic method is independent of specimen thickness and side groove. Angle beam probe which are placed on the end of the compact specimen detect the maximum crack extension effectively. Comparing with elastic-plastic fracture toughness by ultrasonic method and that of unloading compliance method, $J_{IC}$ of ultrasonic method are underestimated to that of unloading compliance method. Elastic-plastic fracture toughness of width 100mm specimen are underestimated to that of width 50mm specimen about 20%.

  • Electro-optical characteristics of new multi-domain vertical-alignment (MVA) liquid crystal displays (LCDs) with negative dielectric anisotropy on a homeotropic photopolymer were studied. Good voltage-transmittance (V-T) curves by the new MVA-LCD on the homeotropic photo-polymer were obtained. Also, the stable response time of MVA-LCD on the homeotropic photopolymer can be achieved. The viewing angle of the new MVA-LCD could be improved by the grating groove with UV exposure and development on the photo-polymer.
