With the rapidly growing amount of information represented in RDF format, efficient querying of RDF graph has become a fundamental challenge. SPARQL is one of the most widely used query languages for retrieving information from RDF dataset. SPARQL is not only simple in its syntax but also powerful in representation of graph pattern queries. However, users need to make a lot of efforts to understand the ontology schema of a dataset in order to compose a relevant SPARQL query. In this paper, we propose a graph query formulation and processing scheme based on ontology schema information which can be obtained by summarizing RDF graph. In the context of the proposed querying scheme, a user can interactively formulate the graph queries on the graphic user interface without making efforts to understand the ontology schema and even without learning SPARQL syntax. The graph query formulated by a user is transformed into a set of class paths, which are stored in a relational database and used as the constraint for search space reduction when the relational database executes the graph search operation. By executing the LUBM query 2, 8, and 9 over LUBM (10,0), it is shown that the proposed querying scheme returns the complete result set.
With the advent of XML and database languages armed with the object-oriented concept and deductive logic, the problem of efficient query processing for them has become a major issue. We describe a way of processing semi-structured XML data through an implementation of a Deductive and Object-oriented Database (DOODB) language with the explanation of query processing. We have shown how to convert an XML data model to a DOODB data model. We have then presented an efficient query processing method based on Connection Graph Resolution. We also present a knowledge-based query processing method that uses the homomorphism of objects in the database and the associative rule of substitutions.

The pattern query in graph database has advantages of easy query expression and high query processing performance compared to relational database SQL. However, unlike the relational database, the graph database may not utilize the advantages of pattern query depending on modeling because the methodology for building the logical data model is not defined. In this study, in the is-a node modeling method that appears during the graph modeling process, we experiment that there is a difference in performance between graph pattern query when designing with a generalization model and designing with a specialization model. As a result of the experiment, it was shown that better performance can be obtained when the is-a node is designed as a specialization model. In addition, when writing a pattern query, we show that if a variable is bound to a node or edge, performance may be better than that of the variable of not bounded. The experimental results can be presented as an is-a node modeling method for pattern query and a graph query writing method in the graph database.
Queries on XML are based on paths in the data graph, which is represented as an edge labeled graph model. All proposed query languages for XML express queries using regular expressions to traverse arbitrary paths in the data graph. A meaningful query usually has several regular path expressions in it, but much of recent research is more concerned with optimizing a single path expression. In this paper, we present an efficient technique to process multiple path expressions in a query. We developed a data structure named as the path identifier(PID) to identify whether two given nodes lie on the fame path in the data graph or not, and utilized the PID for efficient processing of multiple path expressions. We implement our technique and present preliminary performance results.

The unstructured and semi-structured big data in social network poses new challenges in query retrieval. This requirement needs to be met by introducing quality retrieval time measures like indexing. Due to the huge volume of data storage, there originate the need for efficient index algorithms to promote query processing. However, conventional algorithms fail to index the huge amount of frequently obtained information in real time and fall short of providing scalable indexing service. In this paper, a new LIndex algorithm, which is a heuristic on Lucene is built on Neo4jHA architecture that holds the social network Big data. LIndex is a flexible and simplified adaptive indexing scheme that ascendancy decomposed shortest paths around term neighbors as basic indexing unit. This newfangled index proves to be effectual in query space pruning of graph database Neo4j, scalable in index construction and deployment. A graph query is processed and optimized beyond the traditional Lucene in a time-based manner to a more efficient path method in LIndex. This advanced algorithm significantly reduces query fetch without compromising the quality of results in time. The experiments are conducted to confirm the efficiency of the proposed query retrieval in Neo4j graph NoSQL database.
Recently the technological advance in the hardware dealing with multimedia data as well as the explosive increase of the volume of multimedia data bring about new interest in the use of multimedia presentations in many application domains. To use multimedia presentations efficiently, the integration of multimedia presentations into DBMS is necessary. This paper presents a multimedia presentatation query language based on contents and query processing techniques. Presently, multimedia presentation authoring tools denote a multimedia presentation using a presentation graph which is a DAG. A Node in the graph is a same type of media stream and edges denote a play-out order and a synchronization way among nodes. The contents of presentations graphs are the information of each stream, the sequential order of the information inside each stream and the play-out order among the streams. GCalculus/S is a calculus-based query language and can deal with the contents of a presentation graph and physical characteristics of multimedia data. It expresses the sequential order of information inside each stream and the play-out order of streams of a presentation graph using temporal operators Next, Connected and Until. O-Algebra, which is object algebra, is extended to process GCalculus/S queries.
The Semantic Web is being studied as the next step in the evolution of the web. In the environment of the Semantic Web, the information must be understandable computers as well as a just human. So we use ontologies for describing the contents of the web resources. Among such ontologies, OWL is proposed as a recommendation by W3C. OWL data is represented as graph structure and the query is evaluated by traversing each node of the graph. In this paper, we propose the optimization technique based on signature to efficiently process the OWL data. Our approach minimizes traversing each node of the graph in query processing.
Large-scale ontology management is one of the main issues when using ontology data practically. Although many approaches have been proposed in relational database management systems (RDBMSs) or object-oriented DBMSs (OODBMSs) to develop large-scale ontology management systems, they have several limitations because ontology data structures are intrinsically different from traditional data structures in RDBMSs or OODBMSs. In addition, users have difficulty using ontology data because many terminologies (ontology nodes) in large-scale ontology data match with a given string keyword. Therefore, in this study, we propose a (graph database-based ontology management system (GOMS) to efficiently manage large-scale ontology data. GOMS uses a graph DBMS and provides new query templates to help users find key concepts or instances. Furthermore, to run queries with multiple joins and path conditions efficiently, we propose GOMS encoding as a filtering tool and develop hash-based join processing algorithms in the graph DBMS. Finally, we experimentally show that GOMS can process various types of queries efficiently.

RDF data is widely used for exchanging data nowadays to enable semantic web era. This leads to the need for storing and retrieving these data efficiently and effectively. Recently, the structure index in graph-based perspective is considered as a promising approach to deal with issues of complex query graphs. However, even though there are many researches based on structure indexing, there can be a better architectural approach instead of addressing the issue as a part. In this research, we propose architecture for storing, query processing and retrieving RDF data in efficient manner using structure indexing. Our research utilizes research results from iStore and 2 relation-based approaches and we focus on improving query processing to reduce the time of loading data and I/O cost.
Location-based services (LBS) are increasingly popular due to the improvement of geo-positioning capabilities and wireless communication technology. However, in order to enjoy LBS services, a user requesting a query must send his/her exact location to the LBS provider. Therefore, it is a key challenge to preserve user's privacy while providing LBS. To solve this problem, the existing method employs a 2PASS cloaking framework that not only hides the actual user location but also reduces bandwidth consumption. However, 2PASS does not fully guarantee the actual user privacy because it does not take the real user distribution into account. Hence, in this paper, we propose a nearest neighbor query processing algorithm that supports K-anonymity property based on the weighted adjacency graph(WAG). Our algorithm not only preserves the location of a user by guaranteeing k-anonymity in a query region, but also improves a bandwidth usage by reducing unnecessary search for a query result. We demonstrate from experimental results that our algorithm outperforms the existing one in terms of query processing time and bandwidth usage.
