  • In recent years, with the increase in the consumption of natural resources and energy, global environmental problems have appeared. This is a very serious environmental load on worldwide food production. For this reason, innovative techniques for production of low entropy by using effectively the energy for the ecosystemic agriculture have been expected. In this study, granular ceramics of 2 to 3mm in diameter having electrical charges at the surface were produced, using the natural raw materials of silicate minerals haing excellent moldabilities and sintering properties . Production of water having functions was attempted by effective use of the electrochemical energy of the ceramics with an efficient water treatment apparatus in which the ceramics were fluidized in water, differently from conventional systems. In the experimental results, the EC of water treated with the ceramics was not changed, but the ORP and also the pH and the DO were changed. The speed of oxidation -re uction reaction was high, and the ceramics -treated water enhanced the vigor of seeds. It can be expected that this treatment system, by which the ORP of water can be moderately controlled, is advantageous in controlling the growth of plants.

  • SiAlON-based ceramics are some of the most typical ceramic materials used as cutting tools for HRSA(Heat Resistant Super-Alloys). SiAlON can be fabricated using ceramic processing, such as mixing, granulation, compaction, and sintering. Spray drying is a widely-used method for producing a granular powder of controlled morphology and size with flowability. In this study, we report a systematic investigation aimed at optimizing spherical granule morphology by controlling spray-drying parameters such as gas flow and feed rate. Before spray drying, the viscosities of the raw material slurries were also optimized with the amount of dispersant added.

  • The various methods of preparation for the porous hydroxyapatite ceramics using naphthalene, $H_20_2$ and chlorinated paraffine with $H_20_2$ were investigated. And then the prepared orous hydroxyapatite ceramics were characterized by XRD, SEM, FT-IR and the apparent porosity. The pore size of porous hydroxyapatite ceramics was controlled by the content and size of naphthalene granular. It was found that the porosity of it was increased with the amount of naphthalene, but the bending strength was decreased. The application of hydrogen peroxide produced porous materials like a sponge tissue, but the porosity and the shape of sintered body were hardly controlled. In the case of using chlorinated paraffine with the simultaneous addition of hydrogen peroxide, the sponge tissue was obtained and also could be controlled from 50 up to about 65% porosity of it.

  • Co fine particles were dispersed in Au metal and $AlO_x$ amorphous matrices by vacuum evaporation and rf-sputtering, respectively, thus forming granular composite films having chemical compositions of $Co_{0.59}-Au_{0.41}$ and $Co_{0.52}/(AlO_x$)_{0.48}$. The films were annealed at 200~$500^{\circ}C$ to increase the size of the Co particles, from 30$\AA$ to 180$\AA$ in the Au matrix and 40$\AA$ to 180$\AA$ in the $AlO_x$ matrix, as revealed by X-ray diffraction analysis. The Co metal in as-deposited films have saturation magnetization equivalent to that of bulk Co, which is unchanged by the annealing, showing that the Co metal is not oxidized by the annealing. Magneto-optical Kerr rotation measured at $\lambda$=400-900nm for the $Co_{0.59}-Au_{0.41}$ film as deposited is larger than that calculated for the composition. The rotation increases as the film is annealed at $200^{\circ}C$ and $300^{\circ}C$, approaching to that of bulk Co. The Kerr rotation for the $Co_{0.52}-(AlO_x)_{0.48}$ film as deposited is smaller than that calculated for the composition based on Bruggeman effective medium theory. However, the rotation increases much, exceeding the rotation of the bulk Co as annealed at $300^{\circ}C$ and $400^{\circ}C$. As a possible origin of the marked magneto-optical enhancement a weak localization of light in granular structure is suggested.

  • $Y_2O_3$ ceramic specimens were fabricated from the granular powder, obtained by spray drying process from the slurry. The slurry was prepared by mixing PVA binder, NaOH for Ph control, PEG and $Y_2O_3$ powder. The $Y_2O_3$ specimen was shaped in size of ${\phi}14mm$ and then sintered at $1650^{\circ}C$. The characteristics, microstructure, densities and plasma resistance of the $Y_2O_3$ specimens were investigated with the function of forming pressure and sintering time. $Y_2O_3$ specimens were exposed under the $CHF_3/O_2/Ar$ plasma, the dry etching treatment of specimens was carried out by the physical reaction etching of $Ar^+$ ion beam and the chemical reaction etching of $F^-$ ion decomposed from $CHF_3$. With increasing sintering time, $Y_2O_3$ specimens showed relatively high density and strong resistance in plasma etching test.

  • Ba$_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ (YBCO) thin films were deposited by pulsed laser deposition using differently prepared targets: One was a conventionally solid-state sintered (SSS) target and the other was a modified melt-textured grown (MTC) target. Compared with SSS targets, MTG targets showed a well-connected microstructure consisting of much larger grains and the surface was Bess roughened with the cumulative laser incidence. YBCO films deposited from MTC targets showed a denser and smoother surface of the basal film than the case of SSS targets. The investigations of ${\alpha}$-axis outgrowths in the films indicated that the deposition using MTG targets would result in a more homogeneous and stable film growth as compared to the SSS targets. Also, TEM analysis revealed that the film deposited from MTG targets had a less granular microstructure that would reduce weak-link effects in the film.
