This study was carried out to get the basic informations regarding the varietal variations for the physicochemical properties such as protein content, amylose content, fatty acid content, grain quality values and color properties such as lightness value, chroma and hue for the 164 recombinant inbred lines(RILs) of Milyang 23 and Gihobyeo(M/G) at the experimental farm in the Sangji University. The principal component analysis and heritability study were conducted for this experiments. The rapidity of grain filling(RCF) for the 164 M/G RILs could be classified into four groups such as slow maturing group less than 41%, mid-slow maturing group 41∼60%, fast maturing group 61∼80% and very fast maturing group more than 81% based on the rapidity of grain filling rate. The slow maturing group of RGF showed a little bit higher protein content 9.1%, compared to the other RGF groups. However, the amylose content of all the RGF groups revealed the same content by the groups. The very fast maturing group of RGF showed longer grain length in brown rice compared to other RGF varietal groups, in case of grain width in brown rice showed shorter than any other groups. The alkali digestive value which was so much related to gelatinization temperature showed 3.40 degree at fast maturing group of RGF in M/G RILs. However, the very fast maturing group of RGF revealed 4.31 degree of alkali digestive value. The principal component analysis was performed by the chemical and color properties such as quality value, protein content, amylose content, alkali digestive value, fatty acid content, lightness value, chroma and hue for M/G RILs. The first principal component was able to explained upto 36% to total informations. It was corresponded to quality value, protein content, amylose content, fatty acid content, lightness value and a-value(green -1 red). The characters regarding grain quality showed high heritable properties more than 75% of heritability, but color characters appeared relatively lower heritability compared to grain quality.
This experiment was conducted to obtain the basic information for the increase ofgermination percent by the seed diameter, specific gravity, different grain filling period and stratification in Bupleurum falcatum seeds. The seed size of B.falcatum ranged from 2.0 to 3.9mm in diameter, The large seed showed the higher germinability, The optimum specific gravity of salt selection for seed screening was 1.05 resulting in screening out seeds with high germinability over 70%.The seeds needed grain filling period for 60 days or longer after flowering to keep high germinability The optimum period of stratification treatment to promote seed germination was about 80 days.
The nitrogen (N) absorption and partition of the rice plants are important indicators that can be used to improve the N use efficiency (NUE) of the plants. Improving the plant NUE can help to avoid nutrient waste that may cause environmental pollution. To investigate the N absorption and partition of the rice plants, Hwaseongbyeo (Japonica) and Dasanbyeo (indica/japonica) were applied with N fertilizers at the rates of 60, 120, and 180 kg N per ha in paddy field. Also micro plots of $0.81m^2$ were established inside each plot for application of $^{15}N-labeled$ fertilizer. The differences in N utilization of the rice plants were associated with the total N absorption and partitioning after the heading stage. In the grain filling period, the increase of nitrogen content in the total and leaf blades of Dasanbyeo was higher than that of Hwaseongbyeo. Soil N was the main contributor for the increase of total N of Dasanbyeo during the grain filling period. The N fertilizer uptake rate of Hwaseongbyeo rapidly increased with the increment of N fertilization rate. In Dasanbyeo, N fertilizer uptakes were similar under all rates and times of N application. From heading stage to harvest, Dasanbyeo continued accumulating nitrogen, whereas Hwaseongbyeo had small changes. In conclusion, the difference in nitrogen absorption and partition after heading of the two cultivars was caused by the ability of Dasanbyeo to accumulate and remobilize soil nitrogen to the grains during the grain filling period.
Improvement in potential Crop yield could be achieved through either the improve-ment of source potential or sink capacity, but preferably both simultaneously. The field experiment was performed to evaluate the genotypic difference in partitioning of dry matter into each plant part in response to photosynthetic manipulation as well as to assess whether the soybean yield is source or sink-limited. Four soybean genotypes, which were 'Baekunkong', 'Suwon 168', and two local soy-beans with black seed coat(hereafter referred to as the 'black soybean', 'Kangleungjarae' and 'Keumleungjarae', were grown in four different environments in which one or two layers of shading net during grain filling and two different planting densities(55,000 and 110,000 plants $ha^{-1}$) were applied to manipulate photosynthesis. Significant effects of genotype (G), photosynthetic manipulation(P), and$G^p$P were shown in top and grain dry weight. Relative grain to top dry weight was the lowest in soybean plants grown at 110,000 plants$ha^{-1}$and covered with two layers of shading net during grain filling, Evaluation of dynamic changes in shoot harvest index in response to photosynthetic manipulation treatments revealed that sink was more limited in local black soybeans than Suwon 168 and Baekunkong, indicating that the availability of photosynthate during grain filling did not limit the grain yield in local black soybeans when compared to Baekunkong and Suwon 168.oybeans when compared to Baekunkong and Suwon 168.
This study was conducted to estimate the effect of the drought on the changes of chlorophyll, protein and proline content of upper three leaves, and the grain yield components of barley plant (CV. baegdong) subjected to water stress at four stages: late vegetative, boot, anthesis early grain filling. 1. In comparison with leaf posititions in water stress, the first leaf below flag leaf maintained the highest relative turgidity, chlorophyll and protein content and showed the least proline accumulation. And, in terms of growth stages in water stress, chlorophyll was shown to be highest at anthesis stage, protein being highest at boot stage and proline being least at boot stage. 2. In boot stages, culm and spike length, and Number of grains per spike were remarkably decreased. And the weight of 1000 grains was at least level in the early grain filling stage, and also the grain size was comparatively decreased at boot and two following stages. 3. The protein content of grain by water stress, apart from early grain filling stage, was not significantly affected by water stress at different growth stages. 4. The rate of sterility was particularly increased at boot and anthesis stages. 5. It was eventually concluded that the boot stage among four growth stages, and the flag leaf in 3 leaf positions were mostly damaged by water stress at reproductive growth stage.

This study was carried out to improve yield potential of Tongil type rice variety based on QTLs analysis associated with yield component using a total of 386 rice recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from a cross between Tongil type high yield variety "Hanareum2" and Japonica variety "Unkwang". 384 SNP markers were used, and 241 of them (62.6%) were polymorphic between Hanareum2 and Unkwang. One hundred forty-four QTLs in 11 traits, such as heading days, were detected. Most of them were 21 QTLs associated with 1000 grain weight and the least was 8 QTLs associated with panicle number. The QTL, qDTH3-2 associated with days to heading was identified to delay heading date for 2.4~2.6 day. Eleven QTLs were associated with culm length. The QTL, qCL1-2 on chromosome 1, was identified to decrease culm length. A total of 16 QTLs were detected for panicle length. Three QTLs, qPL3, qPL6, and qPL7-1 were increased panicle length. Seven QTLs related to panicle number except qPN7 were increased the number of panicle. Four QTLs related to grain number per panicle, qGNP2-1, qGNP6, and qGNP7, were increased the number of grains. Three QTLs associated with grain filling rate, qGFR1, qGFR2-2, and qGFR7-1 were increased grain filling rate. Twelve QTLs associated with 1,000 grain weight. were increased the grain weight. Fourteen QTLs were identified associated with grain length. 10 QTLs, such as qGL1-1, were increasing grain. Fifteen QTLs associated with grain width were detected. The 8 QTLs, such as qGW1-1, were elongated grain width. Seventeen QTLs were associated with grain thickness, and ten QTLs of them were increased grain thickness. We need further study to develop introgression lines of each QTL to improve yield potential of Tongil type rice variety.

Air temperature has increased, while sunshine hour has decreased during the grain filling period of most rice cultivars (August to September) during the past 12 years from 2001 through 2012 in Korea. Climatic Productivity Index (CPI) has fallen because of the decreased sunshine hour and increased air temperature during the grain filling period, and the degree of reduction was greater with earlier heading. For stable rice production, we will need to delay the heading of rice as a cultivation measure against the future climatic trend. Grain yield showed no significant trend for past 12 years. However, the year to year change in grain yield showed a similliar pattern with that of CPI. Especially, a linear function relating rice yield to CPI explained approximately 63% of variation in grain yield with the heading date of August $11^{th}$ period.
The experiment was conducted to know the varietal difference in changing aspect of daily filling sink during of rice using three cultivars; ‘Suweon 295’ (japonica), ‘Suwoen 264’ and ‘IR 1317-70-1’ (semi-dwarf indica) cultivated in the field and green house of the Crop Experiment Station in 1983. There was not significant varietal difference in flowering habit and duration of flowering period each panicle. Semi-dwarf indica cultivars showed shorter days to physiological maturity of rice kernel than the japonica one. The former also displayed earlier decrease in water content of rice grain during ripening than the latter. Japonica variety revealed larger difference in ripening advancement between vigorous florets and inferior one than semi-dwarf indica varieties. The semi-dwarf indica rice cultivars expressed significantly shrewder parabola of daily filling of sink per panicle during ripening than the japonica one. The time showing maximum capacity of daily filling of sink per panicle during ripening was 10-12 days after anthesis. The filling capacity of daily sink filling per panicle for 'IR 1317-70-1', 'Suweon 264' and 'Suweon 265' at this time were about 240 mg, 165 mg and 145 mg, respectively. Pattern of sink filling per panicle during ripening was slightly changed by the cultural environment. ‘Suweon 295’ showed slightly sharper parabola and 2-3 days earlier time showing maximum capcity of daily sink demand per panicle during ripening in the field than those in the green house.

'Saemimyeon' a Tongil-type rice variety (Indica ${\times}$ Japonica), which contains high amylose contents is suitable for rice noodle production. Nowadays, the major parts of rice processing industry that includes products like rice flour and noodles are expected to partially replace wheat flour market. The volume of rice noodle market is getting bigger and can contribute to the rice surplus and farmer's income. This study was carried out to promote productivity and flour-making quality of 'Saemimyeon' by finding the most suitable transplanting and harvesting times. The transplanting days used were May $10^{th}$, May $17^{th}$, May $24^{th}$, May $31^{th}$, June $7^{th}$ and June $14^{th}$ and the planting distance used was 30 x 12cm. In addition, harvesting time was determined by days after heading time (40, 45, 50, 55 and 60 days). The field experiment was conducted at the experimental field in Miryang (Southern plain area of Korea) from 2015 to 2016. Our results suggest that the optimum transplanting days were from May $24^{th}$ to May $31^{th}$ which resulted to an average yield of 748~751kg/10a. Interestingly, yield was sharply decreased below 700kg/10a before May $10^{th}$ and after June $7^{th}$. The average grain filling rate before May $31^{th}$ was more than 83% but it declined to 75% after June $7^{th}$. The average temperature ranges from heading time to harvesting time was $ 21\sim25^{\circ}C$ and the estimated optimal temperature was $23.4^{\circ}C$ which is similar to May $24^{th}$ by regression equation. We found that the optimal harvest time was 45~50 days after heading time. It is hypothesized that low temperature at seed maturation time caused the lower grain filling rate therefore 'Saemimyeon' need to be transplanted before May $31^{th}$ for higher productivity. We found no statistical variation in amylose contents among experimental plots (28.2~30.4%). We conclude that the productivity of 'Saemimyeon' highly depends on temperature that is critical for grain filling stage controlled by transplanting time.
Pericarp thickness of vegetable corns such as sweet and waxy corn is one of the crucial traits, contributing to their edible quality. This study was carried out to compare the pericarp thickness of super sweet and waxy corn hybrids measured with kernel samples prepared using different methods at different grain filling periods. The samples comprised excised pericarp from dried, frozen (at $-4^{\circ}C$), and fresh kernels. Analysis of variance performed separately on super sweet and waxy corn hybrids indicated a significant three-way interaction among cultivars, kernel sample preparation methods, and days after pollination (DAP). Dried samples of super sweet corn hybrids presented reasonably stable pericarp thickness measurements during grain filling, while all the sample preparation methods fluctuated less as grains of waxy corn hybrids matured. Waxy corn is best consumed at around 24 days after pollination. Pericarp thickness of waxy kernel samples regardless of preparation methods investigated was the same at 24 DAP with a few exceptions. Overall, the common method of drying kernel samples before pericarp excision can provide reliable data for estimating the tenderness of vegetable corn hybrids.
