We studied to investigate the predictive values of gated SPECT for the improvement of wall motion after bypass surgery. As we compared postoperative SPECT with preoperative ones, we defined viability as wall motion improvement. We peformed rest T1-201/s1ress Tc-99m-MIBI gated SPECT in 25 patients before and 3 months after bypass surgery. Myocardial wall motion was graded as normal, hypokinesia, akinesia, and dyskinesia by pair-wise visual analysis of gated pre and postoperative SPECT's on the same monitor screen. Myocardial wall thickening was determined good or poor Among 92 segments with wall motion abnormalities before operation, 69 (75%) improved and 23 did not. Before operation, we could find segments with good systolic thickening in 64 segments among total 92. Thickening of the remaining 28 was poor. Wall motion improved postoperatively in 45 segments (70%) among 64 with good thickening. Twenty four(86%) among 28 segments with poor thickening had also improved. We grouped segments into mild(hypokinetic) and severe(akinetic/dyskinetic) ones. Among 33 segments with severe motion abnormalities, 14 had good thickening and 19 did not. Nine(60%) improved out of 14 segments having severe abnormality with good thickening However, 16(84%) segments out of 19 haying severe abnormality with poor thickening also improved. Neither degree of perfusion decrease nor severity of wall motion abnormalities could explain the high rate of false negatives. In conclusion, as we defined viability as wall motion improvement by comparing pre and postoperative SPECT, systolic thickening observed by gated Tc-99m-MIBI SPECT in myocardial segments with wall motion abnormalities predicted wall motion improvement after bypass surgery. However, poor thickening could not be referred as evidence of nonviable myocardium both in mild and severe contractile dysfunction, so that we might need stimulation study such as dobutamine echocardiography or dobutamine gated SPECT.
High molecular weight glutenin (HMW-Glu) subunit compositions of 73 Korean wheat cultivars and experimental lines were evaluated by using one dimensional sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. This method is suitable for obtaining a good resolution of 1Dx2 and 1Ax2$^*$ without adverse effects on separation of other HMW-Glu subunits. Korean wheats examined in this study could be divided into 15 different groups on the basis of HMW-Glu subunit compositions. From the wheat lines tested, it was identified that there were three alleles at the Glu-Al, five at the Glu-Bl and three at the Glu-D1 loci. The null allele of the Glu-Al was occurred in high frequency (79.4%), while low frequencies for 1Ax1 (12.3%) and 1Ax2$^*$(8.2%) were found. High frequency (75.3%) of the subunit pairs of 1Bx7+1By8 at the Glu-Bl loci compared with other subunits was found. The frequencies of subunits 1Dx2. 2+1Dy12 and 1Dx2+1Dy12 from the Glu-D1 loci were 54. 8% and 37.0%, respectively. However, a few Korean wheat lines (8.2%) carried 1Dx5 + 1Dy10 subunit pair which are responsible for good breadmaking quality. The information of HMW-Glu subunit compositions provide a useful tool to characterize wheat lines, and can be directly used in selection of breeding lines of different end-use properties.
This paper proposes a volume meshing method that fills the inside of an object with tetrahedra, of which dihedral angles are good. The suggested method is fast, stable and easy to implement It can also utilize an octree structure to space-efficiently fill an object with graded tetrahedra by reducing the total number of tetrahedra. To obtain a high-quality mesh with good dihedral angles, we restrict the octree such that any pair of neighboring cells only differs by one level. To efficiently construct a restricted-octree and generate a volume mesh from the octree, we utilize a signed distance field of an object on its bounded workspace. The suggested method can be employed in FEM-based simulation of large elasto-plastic deformation and tetrahedral-mesh-based simulation of fluid flow.
High-quality tetrahedral meshes are crucial for FEM-based simulation of large elasto-plastic deformation and tetrahedral-mesh-based simulation of fluid flow. This paper proposes a volume meshing method that exploits an octree-based adaptive signed distance field to fill the inside of a polygonal object with tetrahedra, of which dihedral angles are good. The suggested method utilizes an octree structure to reduce the total number of tetrahedra by space-efficiently filling an object with graded tetrahedra. To obtain a high-quality mesh with good dihedral angles, we restrict the octree in such a way that any pair of neighboring cells only differs by one level. In octree-based tetrahedral meshing, the signed distance computation of a point to the surface of a given object is a very important and frequently-called operation. To accelerate this operation, we develop a method that computes a signed distance field directly on the vertices of the octree cells while constructing the octree using a top-down approach. This is the main focus of the paper. The suggested tetrahedral meshing method is fast, stable and easy to implement.
The estimation of nugget sizes was attempted by utilizing the artificial neural networks method. Artificial neural networks is a highly simplified model of the biological nervous system. Artificial neural networks is composed of a large number of elemental processors connected like biological neurons. Although the elemental processors have only simple computation functions, because they are connected massively, they can describe any complex functional relationship between an input-output pair in an autonomous manner. The electrode head movement signal, which is a good indicator of corresponding nugget size was determined by measuring the each test specimen. The sampled electrode movement data and the corresponding nugget sizes were fed into the artificial neural networks as input-output pairs to train the networks. In the training phase for the networks, the artificial neural networks constructs a fuctional relationship between the input-output pairs autonomusly by adjusting the set of weights. In the production(estimation) phase when new inputs are sampled and presented, the artificial neural networks produces appropriate outputs(the estimates of the nugget size) based upon the transfer characteristics learned during the training mode. Experimental verification of the proposed estimation method using artificial neural networks was done by actual destructive testing of welds. The predicted result by the artifficial neural networks were found to be in a good agreement with the actual nugget size. The results are quite promising in that the real-time estimation of the invisible nugget size can be achieved by analyzing the process variable without any conventional destructive testing of welds.

This paper presents an efficient and robust approach for determining the correspondence between unbalanced stereo images. The disparity vectors were used instead of feature points, such as corners, to calculate a correspondence relationship. For a faster and optimal estimation, the vectors were classified into several regions, and the homography of each region was calculated using the RANSAC algorithm. The correspondence image was calculated from the images transformed by each homography. Although it provided good results under normal conditions, it was difficult to obtain reliable results in an unbalanced stereo pair. Therefore, a balancing method is also proposed to minimize the unbalance effects using the histogram specification and structural similarity index. The experimental results showed that the proposed approach outperformed the baseline algorithms with respect to the speed and peak-signal-to-noise ratio. This work can be applied to practical fields including 3D depth map acquisition, fast stereo coding, 2D-to-3D conversion, etc.

In this paper, a fast stereo matching algorithm based on pixel-wise matching strategy, which can get a stable and accurate disparity map, is proposed. Since a stereo image pair has small differences each other and the differences between left and right images are just caused by horizontal shifts with some order, the matching using a large window will not be needed within a given search range. However, disparity results of conventional pixel-based matching methods are somewhat unstable and wrinkled, the principal direction of disparities is checked by the accumulated cost along a path on array with the dynamic programming method. Experimental results showed that the proposed method could remove almost all disparity noise and set a good quality disparity map in very short time.
Analysis of the characteristics and the grouping of the species of sown and weeds in artificial pastures was studied applying the principal component analysis method. Presency and coverage of six sown species and fifteen weed species which occurred in pastures of under-grazing and optimumgrazing were subject to analysis. From field survey, species were divided into three groups: the group A included five species such as Festuca arundinacea, Lolium perenne and Dactylis glomerata, etc., the group B included eleven species such as Polygonum longisetum, Agrostis alba and Rumex obtusifolius, etc., and the group C included five species such as Miscanthus sinensis, Rubus palmatus and Artemisia princeps, etc. The group A species corresponded to good pasture conditions and management. On the contrary, the group C species occurred in poor pasture conditions with inadequate management. The group B species corresponded to intermediate pasture conditions and management. Interrelated pair species co-existing and species non-co-existing were discovered. Factor loading as negative for the group A species. positive for the group C species and positive but lower than the group C species for the group B species. From these results it is concluded that the principal component analysis seems to one of the useful tools for the analysis of characteristics of species and the diagnosis of sown pasture vegetation, although further studies are required to get more general information about species characteristics.
The ordinary stereo image of an object consists of data of left and right views. Therefore, the left and right image pairs have to be transmitted simultaneously in order to display 3-dimentional video at the remote site. However, due to the twice data in comparing with a monoscopic image of the same object, it needs to be compressed for fast transmission and resource saving. Hence, it needs an effective coding algorithm for compressing stereo image. It was found previously that compressing left and right frames independently will achieve the compression ratio lower than compressing by utilizing the spatial redundancy between both frames. Therefore, in this paper, we study the stereo image compression technique based on the multiresolution wavelet transform using varied disparity-block size for estimation and compensation. The size of disparity-block in the stereo pair subbands are scaling on a coarse-to-fine wavelet coefficients strategy. Finally, the reference left image and residual right image after disparity estimation and compensation are coded by using SPIHT coding. The considered method demonstrates good performance in both PSNR measures and visual quality for stereo image.

Existing input devices for desktop computers are not suitable for wearable computers because they are neither easy to carry nor convenient to use in a mobile working environment. Different input devices for wearable computers must be developed. In this paper, a wireless glove-based input device for wearable computers is proposed. The proposed input device consists of a pair of chording gloves. Its keys are mounted on the fingers and their chording methods are similar to those of a Braille keyboard. RF (Radio Frequency) and IrDA (Infrared Data Association) modules are used to make the proposed input device wireless. Since the Braille representation for numbers and characters is efficient and has been well established for many languages in the world, the proposed input device may be one of good input devices to computers. Furthermore, since the Braille has been used for visually impaired people, the proposed one can be easily used as an input device to computers for them.
