Effect of Gibberellin and Kinetin on Bud Dormancy Breaking and Growth of Korean Ginseng Root (Panax ginseng C.A. MEY.) (고려인삼의 근아휴면타파와 생육에 대한 Gibbrerllin과 Kinetin의 효과)

  • Effect of gibberllin on the breaking of bud dormancy of root and growth of aerial parts were investigated under laboratory and field condition for the prolongation of shoot growth duration, shortening of fruit bearing age and the increase of root yield. Drop application of GA (0.5ml of 50ppm) on rhizome of one year old root broke bud dormancy better than by low temperature. Soaking for one hour of one year old roots which wintered in the field in GA (50-200ppm) greatly accelerated the emergence of new buds while kinetin was only effective at low level (50ppm). GA substantially increased stem length in early stage and petiole length later on while kinetin increased stem diameter. Under the field condition with polythylene film tunnel (PET) in early spring the soaking in GA (50ppm for 1 hour) of rhizome of 4 year old root with replanting and dropping GA (50ppm, 1ml) on rhizome without replanting brought earlier emergence (29days) in comparison with that in the usual field. PET alone caused 14 day-early emergence. GA increased the length of stem and petiole only in early stage and replanting decreased only petiole length in later stage. Soaking in GA with replanting caused the Pronounced decrease in peduncle length, percentage of (ruin set and dry weight of reproductive organ (fruits and peduncle). Dropping without replanting showed significant decrease only in dry weight of reproductive organ. Fruit maturing was 20 days earlier than in usual held with little difference between GA and PET. It is well expected that GA could be used for early emergence of bud, shortening of root dormancy period, thinning of fruit and higher root yield according to application amount and methods.

Root-Rot Development of 2-Year old Ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) Caused by Cylindrocarpon destructans (Zinssm.) Scholten in the Continuous Cultivation Field (Cylindrocarpon destructans (Zinssm.) Scholten에 의한 연작지 2년근 인삼의 근부병 발병 특성)

  • The disease development of root-rot [pathogen:Cylindrocarpon destruction (Zinssm.) Scholten] occurred in 2-year old ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) was investigated in the continuous (the first cultivation: 1978∼1982, 2nd cultivation: 1990∼1993 and abolished in 1993 due to replanting problem) and replanted cultivation (period of cultivation: 1980∼1984). In the continuous cultivation, incidences of root-rot were 0.7% on May 3, 48.6% on May 24, and 95.8% on June 14, respectively. In the replanted cultivation, no symptom was observed on May 3 and disease incidence was generally lower compared with the continuous cultivation. On the aerial part of the ginseng infected by C. desiccates, the end and/or margin of leaves were changed to dark reddish color that appeared for behind the root-rot symptom. In this field, the longitudinal growth of lateral root was more inhibited than in the case of the replanted cultivation by C. destmctans. The inhibition rate of rootlet growth was 37.3% in the continuous cultivation as compared with that of replanted cultivation at June 14. Though lesions of root-rot were formed all over the roots, 61.2% of the lesions was positioned within 6 cm under the rhizome.   • Root-rot of ginseng caused by Fusarium solani is one of the most obstacles to ginseng cultivation. We evaluated some inoculating techniques of ginseng with Fusarium solani, for selection of disease resistant breeding lines. The most effective inoculating techniques evaluated were inserting toothpicks colonized by F. solani into the seedling roots in laboratory test and dusting seedlings with vermiculite after dipping in conidial sllspension and then replanting method in field test. The resistance to diseased by F. solani was lines of 82022 and 82066 in laboratory test. 82920-1 and 78093 in field test.

Influence of Soil Flooding with Organic Matters Amendment at Various Temperatures on Changes of Microbial Populations in Ginseng-Replanting Field Soils (유기물 첨가 및 온도에 따른 담수처리가 인삼 재작지 토양의 미생물 밀도의 변화에 미치는 영향)

  • Influence of soil flooding with organic matters amendment at various temperatures on population changes of fungi, including Fusarium, and bacteria in ginseng-replanting field soils was examined to evaluate the effective flooding conditions for reducing the progress of ginseng root rot. Populations of Fusarium spp. and total fungi in flooded soils declined with days after flooding. The higher was the temperature in range of 20$\^{C}$ to 35$\^{C}$, the greater was the effect of flooding on the decrease of the fungal population. Flooding of soils with organic matters amendment had synergistic effect on the decrease of the fungal population at the same temperature; Fungal populations in flooded soils with and without organic matters amendment were reduced to 1/100 and 1/10, respectively, relative to those in non-flooded soils after 60 days of treatment at 30$\^{C}$. rice straw seemed to be more effective than greens. Population changes of total bacteria in flooded soils were similar to the trend of total fungi. However, the flooding seemed to influence less effect on the bacterial population than on the fungal population. Based on these experiments, we suggest than the progress of ginseng root rot in ginseng-replanting field soils may be significantly reduced by flooding them for longer than 3 months near at 30$\^{C}$ after amendment of organic matters.

  • The crop rotation of rice and ginseng in paddy field has very important meaning because up-land field suitable for ginseng cultivation is now being insufficient day by day in main ginseng production area. This studies were conducted to define basic problems related to ginseng cultivation and replanting in paddy field. In Keumsan district, the most serious problem on ginseng cultivation in paddy field was excess of mineral salts left behind in the soil of rice cultivation. The amounts of organic matters, CEC and the mineral elements including potassium were higher in the soil of paddy ginseng field compared to those of upland. Plant growth of 3 and 4 year old ginseng and root yield of four year old ginseng cultivated in paddy field of 1st and replanting were not decreased compared to those of 1st - planting of up-land field, but those were significantly decreased in replanted compared to those of first planted upland field. Crop rotation with ginseng and rice in paddy field seemed to be a good way to avoid hazards of continuous cropping of ginseng with it's outyield of root and less infection of diseases. Amounts of crude saponin and ginsenosides of ginseng cultivated in paddy field were not differ from those of upland field.
