  • In this study, we investigated the $NH_3$ oxidation reaction characteristic over $W/TiO_2$ catalyst in order to control $NH_3$ generated from a thermoelectric power plant or incinerator. As a result, it was found that the optimal content of tungsten in $W/TiO_2$ catalyst is 10 wt% and $NH_3$ removal efficiency decreased due to decreasing specific surface areas of catalyst with increasing tungsten contents. When $NH_3$ was injected more than 420 ppm, $NH_3$ conversion decreased at the middle temperature range. In addition, $NH_3$ conversion decreased due to the competitive adsorption of moisture and with increasing oxygen concentration, the $NH_3$ conversion increased while the $N_2$ selectivity decreased.

  • The phase changes and variations of elemental contents in hematite medicinal mineral were investigated by a traditional processing operation including heating and quenching in vinegar. Hematite was processed at $650^{\circ}C$ and $900^{\circ}C$ through at least 5 processing cycles. Metal extraction tests in water were carried out with the processed hematite. Heating and quenching in vinegar could not change the phase of hematite. The effect of this traditional method was not clear because there were no variational trends between extracted elements and the number of processing cycles at $650^{\circ}C$ and $900^{\circ}C$. However, the traditional processing operation of heating and quenching in vinegar was very effective to change the hematite mineral towards soft and easily crushing medicinal material.

  • We have five soil series of pan soils in South Korea out of 391 series: Gangreung, Bugog, Yeongog, Jangweon, and Pogog. Productivity decreases in pan soils as pan horizons impede percolation and capillary rise of water and interrupt root extension. This study was performed to investigate pedogenic processes of pan soils mainly located in footslope and river terrace by analyzing physicochemical properties and soil micro-morphology. Korean pan soils belong to Alfisols, Ultisols, or Inceptisols and have udic or aquic soil moisture regime, mesic temperature regime, and mixed mineral substances. Texture of pan horizons selected for the present study was mainly silty clay loam with clay contents ranging from 26.3 to 45.3%. Bulk density of the pan horizons ranged from 1.4 to $2.1Mg\;m^{-3}$ and their soil structure were subangular or angular structure. In terms of micro-morphological structure, Bt horizon of Gangreung series was formed as platy and striated b-fabric structure possibly affected by uplift of coastal terrace following clay sedimentation by flood. Jangweon series showed micro-morphology of massive structure and crystallic b-fabric as macropores between coarse debris established by debris fall in slope were filled with silt-sized particles. The Bt horizons having massive structure and striated b-fabric in Yeongog, Pogog, and Bugog series implies that those horizons experienced horizontal mass flow after clay accumulation.

  • We propose a vehicle-mounted, location-aware mobile digital signage system that can be used for public transportation through mobile communication. This paper proposes the installations of the LED display panels at the backside of the bus., which display traffic information to cars behind the bus. Information to be displayed would include, but is not limited to, road information, public commercials and private commercials. We propose the system architecture and further implement the prototype of mobile digital signage system for demonstration. The system is based on the Client-Server system. Each bus has a client terminal which detects the current location by a GPS receiver and sends its location information to the server using mobile communication function. The terminal device receives advertisements and traffic information from the server and displays it to the large LCD or LED panel installed at the inside and outside of the bus. We use the Android smartphone as a client system, which inherently equipped with GPS and mobile communication function. GPS detects the location of bus and reports its geo-location data to the traffic information center server via a wireless communication network. On the server side, we developed a specially designed control server, where it communicates with the other traffic information center and updates and manages the databases contents being displayed by each position. The server contains location dependent variable information and returns selected information back to the vehicle in real time. Spatial database is used to process location based data. Server system periodically receives the real time traffic information from the road information center database. And it process the information by bus location and bus line number. In this paper, we propose a mobile digital signage service and explain the system implementation of this service.

  • Recently, reports of cruel group sexual assault in India have been frequently reported. The most prominent group sexual assault incident in India was a medical student, Joti Singh case, that six men raped her and damaged her genitals and organs on a bus and caused her death in 2012. This incident led to the launch and passage of a strong punishment bill including death penalty for sexual assault. But since then, sexual assault is still on the rise. As a result of examining the relations with regional characteristics centering on the areas where sexual assaults occurred, it was found that most of the cases of group sexual assault reported in the media occurred in the mid-north of India, and this was consistent with the region of the Hindu stressed region. If so, it can only be concluded that Hindu fundamentalism, in which female neglect is severe, is the cause. Hindu fundamentalists try to revive the traditional values of women with a strong retroism tendency. In Indian society, women are still at risk of collateral damage. The pursuit of Hindu fundamentalism by the ruling party and political leaders will require much more time to improve the women's social status and human rights.

  • Groundwater samples were collected from the bedrock aquifers related with Okcheon metasedimentary rocks. Arsenic (As) concentrations in the samples varied between 0.0051 and 0.887 mg/L, with an average of 0.0248. Cations and anions of groundwaters had no relationship with As contents as well as with spatial distribution of geology in the area. Pyrite, chalcopyrite and arsenopyrite in the core samples of the monitoring wells were identified in thin section, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electron probe microscope analysis (EPMA). It was suggested that these minerals are responsible for the As in groundwater. The groundwater showed saturations with respect to calcite $(CaCO_3)$, dolomite (CaMg$(CO_3)_2$) and Magnesite $(MgCO_3)$. $HAsO_4{^{2-}}$ activities in the groundwater samples were close to $Ca_3(AsO_4)_2(c)$ and $Mn_3(AsO_4)_2(c)$ solubility isotherms, indicating that the maximum As contents in groundwater are secondly controlled by the precipitation and dissolution of carbonate minerals due to alkaline and oxic nature of the groundwater (pe+pH>10).

  • The purpose of this paper is to provide a better understanding of the unprecedented reform movement of geographic education in the United States since 1980 and extract some implications from this movement for geographic education in Korea. For the purpose, the history to this movement was reviewed through following three stages. In the first stage(1980~1984: form :HSGP" to :"Guideline"), the voluntary improvement movement appeared at California and the orgni-zational movement began in 1982 such as the Committee on Geography and International Knowledge. The national educational refrom imperatives, presented at "A Nation at Risk", and "Back to Basics" movement provided good opportunities to resurrect geography as a basic subject. For next real resurrection movement, the very important document "Guidelines for Geographic Education" was published at 1984. In the second stage(1985~1989: from "Guide-lines" to "Public"), the "Guideline" gave power-full motives and foci for reconstructiong the contents of geography, especially by the five fundamental themes(Location, Place, Relation-ships within Places, Movement, and Region). Also GENIP as the symbol of unity of all four major geography organization(AAG, NCGE, NGS, AGS) contributed to expanding and stren-gthening geography education. Also Geography Educagtion Program of NGS was a smart and well organized program to improve geographic education through it's a five strategies: Grass-roots organization(Alliances), Teacher education, Pu-blic awareness, Educational materials develo-pment, Targeted outreach to education decision-makers. In the late 1980s, the last focus of movement was the Public awareness and Edua-ction decision-making. In the third stage(1990-present: from "Public" to "Core Subject"), the initiative pendulum swung from geography organization to nation curricu-lum. In this National Curriculum, Geography was approved as a "Core Subject" and The 1994 National Geography Assessment Framework was constructed to assess the outcome of student's education in geography in grades, 4,8, and 12. Some Implications extracted from the process and contents of renaissance movement of geogr-aphic education in the Uinted States since 1980 are as follows. First, It shows the importance of the unity and target assignment among the geography organization. Second, interactive relationship between the academic geography and school geography develops each other. Third, teacher education, including pre-service education, including pre-service education and in-service education, is a key element to improve the quality of geography. And teacher organization is a good clearing house to exchange information for good geography. Forth, the positive and active response to changes in socketies such as globalism and inter-nationalizing, national education policy, and the trend of pedagogy is needed to rejuvenate geo-graphic education. Above all, we need to establish a well organized and powerfull program, sophisticated activities strategies, and long-term implementa-tion plan if we want more and better school geography.

  • This research is a quest of theories of poetry of Wang Yak-heo who was a literary critic during Chin(金) dynasty in ancient China. Wang Yak-heo left a fine piece of work, dubbed ${\ll}$Honam Yuro Jib${\gg}$ and, in this paper, the author closely reviewed the theories of poetry that is appeared, especially, in the three volumes of ${\ll}$Talks on Chinese Poetry${\gg}$ among the collections of Wang's poetry criticism. In particular, the author investigated the positive and negative aspects of Honam's commentaries on the works by Chinese poets, including his principles of poetics, creative skills, and practical criticism, etc. Wang Yak-heo has not been known much in the history of Chinese literary thoughts, however, his theory of criticism, especially, among the talks on Chinese the works by Chinese poets, his literature criticisms establish unique and distinctive point of views. Wang Yak-heo's poetics, more than anything else, valued nature, meanings, truth, and contents therein. He exhibited realistic view of literature. Meanwhile, he analyzed the methods of expression by Du Bo(杜甫, pronounced, "Du Fu" in Chinese), So Sik, also known as So Dong Pa (蘇軾, Su Shi or 蘇東坡, Su Dong Po in Chinese), and Hwang Jeong-gyeon(黃庭堅, Huang T'ing-chien), and highly evaluated the realistic poems written by Du Bo, Baek Geo-I (白居易, pronounced, "Bai Juyi" in Chinese), and So Sik. Also, he opposed to formalism or externality, however, he never made light of formality of poetry. In his comments on the works by Chinese poets, he highly evaluated the poems sung by So Sik and Beek Geo-I, in the mean time, however, he criticized their works without hesitation. Having set up his own unique criteria for critique, Wang didn't accept other opinions in a seemingly illogical manner, and he presented what he thoughts and other different points of view from others. Specifically, he attached great importance to whether or not modification of words and phrases, grammar, and whole context were congruent to one another and had been well harmonized. However, in his poetics, Wang was so wrapped himself in reasonableness or rationality, he analyzed each and every word in great detailed manner, as the result, he sometimes didn't read the sentiment or mood that the writers intended to express through poems. He excessively restricted himself to the words and phrases, so that he was not able to realize natural emotions and joy of imagination that were presented in the poems, and, in the end, this brought about adverse effects to the poet's thought.

  • Ground investigation and result analysis generally used to examine all sorts of structures' subsidence or stability can be classified into sandy soil and cohesive soil, and analysis on the liquid limit of soil is utilized to evaluate the physical properties of ground and types or technical behavior of soil. The most widely used method to analyze liquid limit is Casagrande with which liquid limit can be calculated relatively easily; however, it is fairly difficult to apply it to soil equipped with intermediate properties. Therefore, concerning the properties of soil having the intermediate properties of sedimentary ground, this researcher mixed the clay from Yangsan, Gwangyang, and Busan with sandy soil to make intermediate soil and then carried out the test of consistency limit and also evaluated applicability by using the suggested formula of consistency revision. The sample of intermediate soil was the mixture of clay and sandy soil, and to produce intermediate soil, the content (Fc) of fine soil was applied as 50%, 75%, or 100%. Regarding the physical properties of intermediate soil, to maintain the properties of clay in the natural state, bentonite was added at a fixed rate for controlling the properties of clay, and then, consistency was analyzed. By adopting the formula of consistency revision suggested in advanced research, this author analyzed consistency based on the experiment and consistency based on the suggested formula of revision. Also, about intermediate soil collected at the site, consistency based on the experiment and consistency based on the suggested formula of revision were analyzed comparatively, and about intermediate soil collected, this researcher analyzed particle size and calculated the content (Fc) of fine soil to analyze intermediate soil in diverse conditions. Moreover, about intermediate soil collected at the site, the suggested formula of consistency revision was applied to calculate the compression index, and the compression index based on the experiment and the compression index based on the suggested formula were analyzed comparatively to evaluate the applicability of the suggested formula.
