  • Many species of Lymantria are important forestry pests, including L. dispar which is well known distributed from Asia to North America as an invasive species. Like of most other genera of moths, the systematic of this genus is still in dispute, especially on the monophyly and the relationship within this genus due to the fact that genus is very large and varied. This genus was morphologically defined only by a single aphomorphy. To clarify the monophyly of the genus Lymantria, to reveal the phylogenetic relationship among the Indonesian species, and to establish the genetic characters of Indonesian Lymantria, we analyzed 9 species of Indonesian Lymantria involving 33 other species distributed around the world based on nucleotide sequence variation across a 516-bp region in the CO I gene. The results showed that the base composition of this region was a high A+T biased (C: 0.3333). The results also showed that the monophyly of Lymantria was not supported by bootstrap tests at any tree building methods. Indonesian species was distributed into four different groups but the relationship among them was still in dispute. It indicates that relationships among the basal nodes (groups) proposed here were least valid due to the fact that the number of species may not be enough to represent the real number of species in the nature. Moreover CO I gene sequences alone were not able to resolve their relationships at the basal nodes. More investigations were needed by including more species and other genes that the more conserved.

  • The chromosome of Fusarium species during the vegetatve nuclear divisions in hyphae were observed by use of HCl-Giemsa technique on light microscope. The haploid chromosome number of Fusarium anthophilum 7472 was n=7, n=6 in F. anthophilum 7481 and n=6 in F. oxysporum 7500. The haploid chromosome number was 7 in F. napiforme 6129 and F. napiforme 6144. Those of F. caucasicum F. caucasicum ATCC 18791 and F. aquaeductuum ATCC 15612 were n=5. F. coeruleum ATCC 20088 was n=6, n=8 in F. camptoceras ATCC 16065 and n=7 in F. sambucinum NRRL 13451. From these results and previous papers, it may be concluded that the basic haploid chromosome number of the genus Fusarium is n=4.

  • For every tree T, we introduce a topological invariant, called the T-cross-index, for connected graphs. The T-cross-index of a graph is a non-negative integer or infinity according to whether T is a tree basis of the graph or not. It is shown how this cross-index is independent of the other topological invariants of connected graphs, such as the Euler characteristic, the crossing number and the genus.

  • The genus Squalidus of Korea, formerly regarded as genus Gnathopogon is reviewed and keys to following 4 species and subspecies: S. gracilis majimae, S. chankaensis tsuchigae, S. chankaensis ssp., and S. japonicus coreanus. The genus spualidus is distinguished from genus Gnathopogon by the position of snout, color pattern on the body sides, number of scales above lateral line, and distance from anus to anal finorgin. G. majimae Jordan et Hubbs is junior synonym of S. gracilis majimae, and G. coreanus (not Berg) is splitted and identified as S. chankaensis tsuchigae, S. c. ssp., and S. japonicus coreanus. S. c. tsuchigae is very similar to S. j. coreanus, but the eye diameter, barbel length, and the number of lateral line scales are useful characters in separating these species. S. thankaensis ssp. occurring only in the Yongdok-Oship River differs from S. chankaensis tsuchigae in the number of lateral line scales, eye diameter and their body size.

  • L. H. Encinas, A. J. Menezes, and J. M. • The genus Eurycletodes Sars, 1909 is reported for the first time in Korea. A new species of the genus Eurycletodes was collected from Hansando Island, South Sea of Korea. So far, Eurycletodes comprises 27 species, with no previously recorded species reported in East Asia, including Korea. Eurycletodes (Oligocletodes) vadumus sp. nov. is morphologically most closely related to E. (O.) denticulatus Por, 1967, E. (O.) aculeatus Sars, 1920, and E. (O.) diva Menzel, 2011, but clearly distinguishable from the others based on the following morphological characteristics: absence of A2 exopodal seta, A1 last segment with two inner setae, P4 exp-3 proximal inner seta modified, the ratio of length and of caudal rami (1.6 times), and mandibular palp with three setae. Together with the new species, the number of valid species in this genus has risen to 28. A key to species of the genus Eurycletodes is provided.

  • An asteroid specimen was collected by using a fishing net from the waters near Daejin harbor, in the East Sea of Korea on 3 Mar 2017. Based on morphological characteristics, the specimen was identified as Aleutihenricia beringiana (Djakonov, 1950), belonging to the family Echinasteridae, of the order Spinulosida. The genus Aleutihenricia was first described by Clark and Jewett, 2010. This species can be distinguished from other Aleutihenricia species by having a roundish protruding shape of abactinal and actinal plates, the number of abactinal spines bearing three to eight spinelets, and the number of adambulacral spines comprising six to eight spinelets. This is the first report of the genus Aleutihenricia and A. beringiana in Korea.

Masque in [3] proposed a classification of isomorphism classes of hyperelliptic curve of genus 2 over finite fields with characteristic different from 2 and 5. Y. Choie and D. Yun in [2] obtained the number of isomorphic classes of hyperelliptic curves of genus 2 over $F_{2-}$ using direct counting method. We have obtained isomorphism classes of hyperelliptic curves of genus 2 over $F_{2n}$ for odd n, represented by an equation of the form $y^2$ + $a_{5}$ y = $x^{5}$ + $a_{8}$ x + $a_{10}$ ( $a_{5}$ $\neq$0) [1]. In this paper we characterize hyperelliptic curves of genus 2 over $F_{2n}$ for even n, represented by an equation of the form $y^2$ + $a_{5}$ y = $x^{5}$ + $a_{5}$ x + $a_{10}$ ( $a_{5}$ $\neq$0).>0).
