Factors on Financial Preparation for Retirement: Focusing on Money Transfer between generations (경제적 은퇴준비행동의 영향요인: 세대간 자산이전 요인을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of money transfer between generations on preparation behaviors for retirement, separated into assets and saving for retirement. The survey was conducted by targeting 422 married people across the nation. The factor of money transfer between generations was defined as the inheritance and gift variable. The data were analyzed using SPSS 20. Correlation, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and multiple regressions were utilized. The results indicated that preparation behaviors for retirement are affected by the economic independence of parents, inheritance, expenses for children's education, and marriage. Retirement assets were significantly affected by inheritance, the economic independence of parents, educational expenses for children, financial assets, and amount of debt, while the significant factors related to retirement savings were interests on retirement, income, wedding expenses for children, economic independence of parents, and educational expenses for children. It was concluded that the financial preparation for retirement ought to be expanded from one household's finances to finances between generations.

Comparison of the pronunciation of word-initial liquids between generations in Korean (세대 간 어두 유음의 발음 양상 비교)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the different aspects of word-initial liquid sounds in Korean according to generations. Five women in their 50s and seven in their 20s participated in the experiment. We examined FL (formant of liquids) and voice sustained time by using Praat software. Three English native speakers were asked to judge the Korean speakers' recorded speech samples for marking [l] or [r] using evaluation sheet. The results of the two experiments revealed three important aspects. First, there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups in the FL of the words 'racket' and 'ruby.' Second, we found statistically significant differences in 'rhythm', 'ruby' and 'litter' from the measurement of the duration of the acoustic data. Third, there was no difference in pronunciation between the two groups according to the phonemes of the original language. The results of this study showed that it is difficult to say that the duration of word-initial liquids and the phoneme difference of the original language are indicators to distinguish the word-initial liquids between generations. Also, it was seen that the pronunciation of Korean word-initial liquid sounds varied across generations.

Consistency of QTLs for Soybean Seed Size across Generations (대두 종자크기에 대한 QTL의 consistency)

  • Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] seed size is a important yield component and is a primary consideration in the development of cultivars for specialty markets. Our objective was to examine the consistency of QTLs for seed size across generations. A 68-plant F$_{2} segregation population derived from a mating between Marcury (small seed) and PI 467.468 (large seed) was evaluated with RAPD markers. In the F$_{2} plant generation (i.e. F$_{3} seed), three markers, OPL09a, OPM)7a, and OPAC12 were significantly (P<0.01) associated with seed size QTLs. In the F$_{2} ; F$_{3} generation (i.e., F$_{4} seed), four markers, OPA092, OPG19, OPL09b, and OPP11 were significantly (P<0.01) associated with seed size QTLs. Just two markers, OPL09a, and OPL09b were significantly (P<0.05) associated with seed size QTLs in both generations. The consistency of QTLs across generations indicates that marker-assisted selection for seed size is possible in a soybean breeding program.

Artificial and Natural Selection for Phototactic Behavior in Drosophila melanogaster (초파리의 走光性行動에 대한 人爲淘汰와 自然淘汰)

  • Several hundred flies of Drosophila melanogaster collected in Anyang City were selected for positive, negative and neutral directions during 15 generations. The population responded effectively to the artificial selection. The realized heritability estimated for the first 10 generations was $2 \\sim 4%$ per generation in the positive and negative phototaxis. The results of diallel crosses among selected populations indicated that some polygenes showing a negative phototaxis were partially dominant over polygenes controlled the positive phototaxis, and the dominant effect became greater in later generations. The populations selected for positive and negative phototaxis were relaxed after 15 generations of selection, and their phototactic responses were completely returned to their original states. Such phenomena would be explained by the genetic homeostasis resulted from an action of natural selection. It seems reasonable to assume that the phototactic neutrality of a natural population was maintained as an adaptive trait under natural environment.

A Study on the Typologies of Family Values by Generation using Latent Profile Analysis (잠재프로파일 분석을 이용한 세대별 가족가치관의 유형 탐색 연구)

  • This study identified and compared family values within and across different generations concerning gender roles, attitudes toward diverse families, children, and parental roles. Data were obtained from the 2020 Seoul Family Report Survey. There were 1,949 study subjects, including first- and second-generation baby boomers and individuals in generations X, Y, and Z in Korea. Latent profile analyses were conducted using M-plus. Perceptions and views concerning family values were classified into different types. The main findings were as follows. Two types were identified among first baby boomers, and three were identified among second baby boomers. Most of the first and second baby boomers belonged to the "moderate" type. Two types were detected among those in Generation X. Regarding gender roles, most views of Generation X were slightly progressive, while their other family values were more moderate. Three types were identified among those in Generation Y: "progressive," "moderate," and "very liberal." Generation Z was identified as a "progressive" group. This study provides basic data to explore the direction of the coexistence of generations by identifying and comparing diverse family values within and across generations.

  • Purpose: This study aims to derive planning directions of community facilities integrating generations based on local communities to promote sustainable intergenerational exchange by analyzing the spatial configuration and programs of domestic and foreign generation-integrated community facilities based on local communities. Research design, data and methodology: Through theoretical consideration, the concept of intergenerational integration, types of intergenerational exchange, and spatial arrangement types were identified. Then, case study analysis of domestic and foreign community facilities with well-planned intergenerational exchange spaces and programs were conducted to identify intergenerational integration, and to derive community facility planning direction. Results: The results of this research are as follows. First, in terms of humanware, in order to revitalize continuous exchange between the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generations, a systematic support system is needed to build mutual trust through voluntary participation by each generation. Second, it is important to provide a variety of shared spaces while maintaining the uniqueness of each facility from a hardware perspective, and must be planned in such a way that selective interaction takes place with privacy and interaction in mind. Third, in terms of software, programs that meet the characteristics of each user must be provided. Conclusions: It is expected that the results of this research can be used as basic data for planning community facilities that integrate generations based on local communities, contributing to the search for sustainable ways to revitalize intergenerational exchange in the future.

Influence of Co-Habitation on a Family Line Resemblance in Nutrient and Food-Group Intake among Three Generations of Japanese Women

  • Although a generation-related difference in nutrient and food-group intake has been broadly recognized in the Japanese population, few studies have examined the difference and correlation of intakes with consideration of a family line and co-habitation status. We conducted a dietary survey using female college students in dietetic course in Aichi, Japan, and their mothers and grandmothers. A validated self-administered diet history questionnaire was used for assessment of intakes. Data from 110 families were included in the analysis. The means of 13 nutrients and 10 food groups (of the 15 and 14, respectively) showed significant differences among the three generations. A significant difference was observed in the carbohydrate, protein, saturated fatty acid, cholesterol, and fish intakes between the students living with their mothers and those apart. In the correlation analyses between generations, moderate correlation was observed for most nutrients and food groups between the students and their mothers living together (correlation range = 0.30-0.61 for nutrients, and = 0.21 -0.56 for food groups). A wide variation with no consistency was observed for the correlation between the students and their grandmothers (-0.18 -0.59 and -0.33 -0.65, respectively), No meaningful correlation was observed between any two generations living apart. Among the food groups examined, pulses, fish, and vegetables showed relatively large differences for the correlation between two groups with different living conditions. When living together, the correlation coefficients for nutrients and food groups between the students and their mothers decreased according to the increase in frequency of eating out by the students. These results suggest that living together and eating together were an important factor for the resemblance in dietary habits between generations in the population with a marked generation-related difference in intakes. Life-styles and Factors Considered for Housing Choices for Two Co-residential Generations (세대간 라이프스타일과 주택선택시 고려요인 비교연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to discover similarities and dissimilarities in life style and other factors for housing choices between two generations living in same household. It will provide knowledge that is helpful in understanding the two generations and develop marketing strategies for houses as a commodity that accommodates the life style of both generations. The data of this study were collected from October to November 2003, using a structured, self-report questionnaire that contains questions on 40 dimensions of life style and 33 items on housing choices. The original respondents consisted of 307 university students and their parents living in Seoul. The ages of the younger generation were limited from ぉ to 29. The final participants in this study included 224 sets of university students and their parents, that is, about 448 respondents. Frequency, percentage, factor analysis, paired t-test and means were used for data analysis. The results show that the life style may be divided into nine sub-types. There were generational differences in If-oriented lifestyle, Conservative lifestyle, As- service self-expression lifestyle, Pragmatic lifestyle, Convenience lifestyle, Self-development lifestyle, and Leisure-oriented lifestyle. Especially in the categories of Convenience lifestyle, If-oriented lifestyle and Positive Self-expression lifestyle, the younger generation ranked higher than their parents. The most important factors in housing choice may be divided into eight sub-categories. Among them are economic factors, housing amenities, housing design, distance from parents and children, social and environmental qualifies, and distance from work place and school. The two generations differed over the importance of the factors. The younger generation particularly valued the factors of distance from parents and children, housing amenities, housing design.

Effects of Artificial and Natural Selection on Walking Behavior in Drosophila melanogaster (초파리의 보행행동에 관한 인위도태와 자연도태에 의한 유전적 효과)

  • Selections for rapid and slow walking behavior were carried out with the populations, drived from Oregon-R and lethal free strain of Drosophila melanogaster. The behavior was measured by means of connected test-tube apparatus. The populations responded effectively to the artificial selection, and it reached the selection plateau after 7 generations. The realized heritability for the first 10 generations was estimated to be about $9\\sim14%$ for the rapid walking behavior, and those for slow walking behavior was about $11\\sim16%$. The results of hybridization analysis between selected populations at generations 8 and 10 indicated that some polygenes showing a slow walking behavior were partially dominant over polygenes controlled rapid trait. The populations selected for rapid and slow walking behavior were relaxed after 10 generations of selection. The response to natural selection of rapid population was completely returned to their neutral states after only 5 generations. Such phenomena would be explained by the genetic homeostasis resulted from an action of natural selection. However, the slow population did not make any difference from walking scores of their original artificial selection. It seems reasonable to assume that the slow walking behavior was possibly controlled by a major gene.

A Study on the Difference of Perception about Traditional Food by Generations in Busan Area (부산 지역 전통음식에 대한 세대별 인식 차이 분석)

  • This study is to analyze the difference of perception about Korean traditional food by generations in Busan area. For the analysis of this study, both the cross tabulation analysis and Frequency analysis were used, by choosing the random specimen of investigation from middle and high school students, college students and general people residing in Busan area. The result of the study is as follows. First, the frequency of preference for traditional food is different by generations. Second, Korean traditional food is the most preferred among all generations. Third, menu is decided mainly for a father in the family. Finally, standardized and simplified recipes are needed for busy people. To improve the difference by generation, herbs or seasonings should be added or ingredients should be changed into ones suitable to young generation's taste. It is necessary for future studies to have extended samples nationwide for balanced specimen.
