  • In the present study an attempt was made to synthesize $10TiO_2$.$90SiO_2$ glass by Sol-Gel process. Tetra-ethyl-ortho-silane and titanium-iso-propoxide were used as precursors. As the mutual solvent ethanol and iso-propanol were used. TEOS was partially hydrolyzed with one-fold mole of $H_2O$ prior to the reaction with titanium-iso-propoxide to control the difference of hydrolysis rate of the two metal alkoxides. At gelling temperature higher than 6$0^{\circ}C$ it was difficult to obtain monolithic gels. At such a low temperature as 85$0^{\circ}C$ clear amorphous gel derived glass with Si-O-Ti bonding was obtained.

  • To increase the efficiency of the callus induction in anther culture of Schizandra chinensis, the effects of culture stage, low temperature pretreatment, growth regulators, sucrose and gelling agents were tested on Murashige and Skoog's medium. And the effects of ABA and $AgNO_3$ on organogenesis were investigated. The most suitable stage for anther culture was at the middle to late uninucleate stage, of which the flower size was $6.2{\pm}0.6{\times}4.0{\pm}0.4mm(Length{\times}width)$, and the frequency of callus induction was 13.3%. The effect of low-temperature pretreatment on callus induction was highest as 12.5% in the trearment for 8 days at $4^{\circ}C$. The combination of 1.0 mg/L 2, 4-D and 0.25 mg/L kinetin for callus induction was most effective as 8.3% among various media. The frequency of callus induction was excellent as 10.8% in 4% sucrose. Effect of gelling agents on callus induction was highest as 9.0% on 0.6% Gelrite medium. The prevention of callus browning was effective on the media supplemented with ABA and $AgNO_3$ and rooting was promoted on medium supplemented with 5 mg/L ABA. But shoot was not developed.

  • The study was performed to optimize the processing conditions (alkali concentration, extraction time, and temperature) for rockfish skin gelatin based on yield using response surface methodology and comparison of the physicochemical properties with those of rockfish skin gelatin pretreated and extracted under ordinary conditions (alkali treatment concentration: 1.0 M; extraction time: 2 hr; extraction temperature: $60^{\circ}C$). Predicted maximum gelatin yield of 19.1% and gelatin content of 87.8% were obtained by extraction at $106.6^{\circ}C$ for 69.0 min after pretreatment with 1.1 M calcium hydroxide. Yield of gelatin extracted under high temperature/high pressure (G-HT/HP) was 54% higher than that extracted under ordinary temperature/time (G-OT/T). However, G-HT/HP was inferior in gel strength and gelling point to (G-OT/T), but comparable in transmission. Based on the physicochemical properties, G-HT/HP was unsuitable for use in products requiring higher physical properties, but could be useful for health-functional foods.

  • This study was investigated the changes of gel properties about pH, color and water holding capacity at various hydration time and temperature of food-grade additives (BPP: bovine plasma protein, DEW: dried egg white, SPI: soy protein isolate). The changes of rheological properties were checked about hydration time and temperature. Hydration time and temperature affected pH value, hydration decreased pH of SPI and DEW. The BPP was not influenced at hydration time and temperature. Some Hydration condition increased jelly strength of food-grade additive, but SPI did not form a gel at all hydration condition. Hydration increased lightness of food-protein.

  • Acid-modified starch was prepared by treating a warm aqueous starch suspension with dilute mineral acid$(0.2\;N\;HCl,\;45^{\circ}C,\;20\;mim{\sim}1\;h)$. The swelling power and solubility of acid-modified red bean starches increased and the changes occurred at tower temperature. According to gel chromatography of starches, the amylose and amylopectin moieties of red bean starches were not affected very much by hydrolysis conditions used. The elution profiles of soluble carbohydrate showed that the larger molecules were leached as the heating temperature increased. Total amounts of soluble carbohydrate were increased by acid-modification. The gel strength of acid-modified starches at each temperature increased, whereas cohesiveness decreased in acid-modified starch gels except at $85^{\circ}C$.

  • In this study, it should be mentioned that Lipid-LCG can be prepared with the main compound of hydrogenated lecithin in oil-in water emulsion. The results of its physical property and stability are as follows. First, the best suitable compositions of Lipid-LCG are made from 4.0wt% of the hydrogenated lecithin, 4.0wt% of cetostearyl alcohol as emulsifier and gelling agent, 3.0wt% of butylene glycol and 2.0wt% glycerin as moisturizers, 3.0wt% of cyclomethicone, 3.0wt% of isononyl-isononanoate, 3.0wt% of capric/caprylic triglycerides, 3.0wt% of macadamia oil as emollients. Second, As the optimum conditions to form Lipid-LCG, which figured out 6.0 ${\pm}$ 1.0 for pH level, 32kg/mm, min for hardness to make a .essence to be formed the ternary phase of liquid crystal(multi-lamellar type). Third, as the analytical result of this system, it obtained that particle size is $1{\sim}8{\mu}m$ level, and is certified with it at 400 and 1,000 magnifications by microscope. The stability of Lipid-LCG is very stable on condition of a low temperature ($4^{\circ}C$), a room temperature ($25^{\circ}C$) and a high temperature ($40^{\circ}C$), which is not to be split in for a long time(for 3-month). We produced our own moisturizing essence, which has a good affinity to skin by means of this system.

  • This work concentrated on the effect of different laser beams on the microstructure and dielectric properties of $BaTiO_3$ nanoparticles at different calcinations times during the gelling preparation step. The nanoparticles were prepared by the sol-gel method. A green (1000 mW, 532 nm) and red laser beam (500 mW, 808 nm), were applied vertically at the center of stirring raw materials. The samples were sintered at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 2, 4, and 6 h. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that samples prepared under the green laser have the highest purity. The FT-IR spectra showed that the stretching and bending vibrations of TiO bond without any other bonds, which are compatible to the X-ray diffraction (XRD) results. Samples were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Scan electron microscopy (SEM), and UV-Visible spectrophotometer. Characterization showed the samples prepared under the green laser to have the highest particle size (~ 50 nm) and transparency for all sintering durations. Laser beam effects on electrical characterization were studied. BT nanoparticles prepared under the green laser show the higher dielectric constant, which was found to increase with sintering temperature.

  • Through sol-gel process, inorganic/organic composite as a dye host was made. It was observed that this composite has about 90% of trnasmittance by UV/VIS spectrophotometer. The transmittance is the most important requirement to decide whether the composite could apply or not as the dye host. The transmittance was increased with decreasing HCl as a catalyst, aging time, and amount of PDMS. Also, fluorescent and transmittant charateristics of Rhodamine 6G Perchlorate that was doped into ORMOSIL were measured. The fluorescent intensity was increased and the trnasmittance was decreased with rising gelling temperature.

  • Zirconia gels dispersed with fine Au particles have been prepared by the sol-gel method. Starting solution with (OC$Zr_4$$H_{ 9}$)$_4$, $C_4$ $H_{9}$ OH, $H_2$O,$ HNO_3$, $HAuC1_4$ was used to prepare gels in several molar ratio. After hydrolysis, viscosity of solutions as 4∼5 cP and gelling time of sols were spent about 9 days. As the heat-treatment temperature was increased,$ ZrO_2$ had the phase transition from tetragonal to monoclinic at $750^{\circ}C$. Heat-treatments of the gel have performed at 500, 700, 750, 800, 1000 and $1100^{\circ}C$ for 3 hrs, respectively. We have investigated TG-DTA, X-ray diffraction patterns, SEM and EDS. The size of Au fine particles dispersed in the heat-treatmented gel was about 0.15∼0.23 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and the shape was most sphericity.
