Gel-like compounds containing flammable solvents were prepared to use fur cleaning agents in field of innovative industries and general purposes. And experiments were conducted to improve the defects of liquified flammable solvents from the view point of safety and health hazards. Flammable solvents used in this study were several single component flammable solvents(turpentine oil, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone(NMP), d-limonene) and multi component flammable solvent(gasoline and ethanol). For gelation of flammable solvents, commercially Known as Aerosil(equation omitted) 200 fumed silica and triethanolamine(TEA) were used as gelation agent dispersant. The analyses on properties of gel-like compounds was studied by gelation and viscosity test pH test, volatility test and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) measurement. The experimental results indicate that gel-like compounds containing flammable solvents have pH stability, high viscosity, volatile organic compounds(VOC) control by the decrease of volatility and odor component generation, fluidity control etc. From the experimental values, it can be predicted that the safety in the working place is improved by manufacturing flammable solvents into gel-like compounds.

The gelation characteristics of chitosan of different molecular weight were investigated in terms of concentration and temperature of alkari aqueous solution. The average molecular weights and the degrees of deacetylation of the chitosan used were $2.0{\times}10^5$, $5.2{\times}10^5$, $8.2{\times}10^5$ and 85%, respectively. Sodium hydroxide solution was used as a gelation agent. A simple diffusion model was applied to study the gelation rate. The diffusion coefficients of the gelation agent in the chitosan gel increased with increasing its concentration, temperature of the casting solution, and molecular weight of the chitosan.
To accelerate the curing and to improve the bonding properties of urea-melamine-formaldehyde (UMF) resin adhesives for plywood, the effects of resin compositions and additives on gelation time and bonding strength were discussed. The gelation time of UMF resin prepared by simultaneous reaction with urea(U), melamine(M) and formaldehyde(F) at M/U molar ratio 0.2 was shortened as the molar ratio of formaldehyde to urea was increased. However, at F/U molar ratios higher than 2.5, the amounts of free fomaldehyde of resin could not satisfy with KS standard, Therefore, it was difficult to increase the amount of formaldehyde in resin composition for the purpose of fast gelation time. With increasing the molar ratio of melamine to urea(M/U) from 0.3 to 0.6 at constant F/U molar ratio 3.4, the gelation time of UMF resin was slightly decreased, while gradually increased at M/U molar ratio higher than 0.6. The gelation properties of UMF resin and bonding strength of UMF-bonded plywood could be enhanced by using ammonium chloride and p-toluene sulfonic acid as a curing-agent together with wheat flour and corngluten powder as a extender.
Liquid crystalline thermosetting epoxy oligomer DD-A was synthesized with Diglycidyl ether of 4,4'-dihydroxy-α-methylstilbene (DGE-DHMS) and aniline in a ratio of 2:1 and cured with a catalytic curing agent, 1-Methyl Imidazole. The gelation times and vitrification times were measured to create Time-Temperature-Transition Diagrams with liquid crystalline phase changes. It was found that the gelation and vitrification times were decreased as the concentration of curing agent increased, and the vitrification curve showing a typical S-shape was confirmed.

Curing reaction was carried out with the acrylic resin (ACR) [n-butyl acrylate/atyrene/2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate/acetoacetoxyethyl methacrylate (AAEM)] synthesized before and a curing agent, hexamethoxymethylmelamine (HMMM). With rotational rheometer, the effect of catalysts on curing rate of acrylic resin/melamine was examined. Among the four catalysts used, p-toluene sulfonic acid showed the highest reactivity, and the optimum amount of catalyst was 0.5 phr. It was observed that in the ACR/HMMM curing reaction, gelation point was lowered with the increasing the amount of AAEM and HMMM in the ACR.
Oil gelling agent was synthesized with PPG, PTMG and TDI at 7$0^{\circ}C$ for 4hours. PPGs and PTMGs having various average molecular weights (M$_{n}$: 1000, 2000, 3000) were employed to investigate the ratio of oil gelation and water gelation. As M$_{n}$ of PPG, in result, was decreased from 3000 to 1000, the ratio of oil gelation was increased from 130% to 290% for PPG and from 250% to 310% for PTMG. Ratio of oil gelation was increased approximately two times when EG was added. As the amount of hydrophilic compound in the prepolymer was increased, ratio of oil gelation was increased from 290% to 1120% for PPG and increased from 310% to 1310% for PTMG, due to the increased dispersion of prepolymer in the water/oil mixture.ure.
For the synthesis of crystalline LAS glass by sol-gel method, the effect of operation conditions including metal alkoxide ratio, nucleating agent composition and heat treatment on the crystalline properties was experimentally investigated. The gelation time and crystallization temperature were proportionally affected by the mole ratio of TEOS in metal alkoxides solution. The addition of $TiO_2$ had an influence on the increasing of the gelation time, but the crystallization temperature was rarely dependent on the adding of nucleating agent. The crystallinity of LAS glass was improved by the nucleating agent under same heat treatment conditions.
Epoxy/anhydride systems with silica filler were studied to improve the cure behavior and characteristics. To study the curing process of epoxy/anhydride using DSC and a stress rheometer, it was observed that gelation temperature increased by increasing the thermal rate or in high isothermal conditions, while it was observed that the degree of cure at gelation decreased. Thermal stability of the epoxy/anhydride system showed any increment by increasing silica contents, except slight decrease of weight by containing humidity. The epoxy resin cured with 30% of silica filler decreased coefficient thermal expansion (CTE) about 33% to show $40ppm/^{\circ}C$. Specimens filled with 30 wt% of silica showed 60% increase in storage modulus at $30^{\circ}C$ to show 3909 MPa compared with neat resin to 2,377 MPa. Epoxy/anhydride systems with surface treated silica by silane coupling agent decreased storage modulus.
The effect of novel N-crotyl-N,N-dimethyl-4-methylanilinium hexafluoroantimonate (CMH) curing agent as a thermal latent initiator on thermal behaviors, rheological properties, and thermal stability of diglycidylether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) epoxy cationic system was investigated. From DSC measurements of DGEBA/CMH system, it was shown that this system exhibits an excellent thermal latent characteristic at a given temperature. The conversion and conversion rate of DGEBA/CMH system increased with increasing the concentration of initiator, due to high activity of CMH. Rheological properties of the system were investigated under isothermal condition using a rheometer The gelation time was obtained from the analysis of storage modulus (G'), loss modulus (G"), and damping factor (tan $\delta$). As a result, the reduction of gelation time was affected by high curing temperature and concentration of CMH, resulting in high degree of network formation in cationic polymerization, due to difference of activity. The thermal stability of the cured epoxy resin was discussed in terms of the activation energy for decomposition and thermal factors determined from TGA measurements.ents.

The purpose of this study is to develop a transurethral liquid suppository containing prostaglandin $E_1\;(PGE_1)-loaded$ microemulsion, which undergoes a phase transition to gels at body temperature. The effects of oils, ethanol as solvent and HCl as pH-controlling agent on the physicochemical properties of liquid suppositories composed of poloxamer P 407, P 188 and carbopol was investigated. The stability of $PGE_1$ and release of $PGE_1$ from liquid suppository were evaluated. Oils such as Neobee and soybean oil significantly decreased the gelation temperature but increased the gel strength of liquid suppository due to their strongly binding with the components of liquid suppository base. However, ethanol slightly did the opposite. The pH of liquid suppositories hardly affected the gelation temperature and gel strength due to addition of very small HCl (0.005-0.01%). A liquid suppository [$PGE_1/P$ 407/P 188/carbopol/Neobee/ethanol/HCl (0.2/14/14/0.4/7/2/0.005%)], which had the gelation temperature $(34.2{\pm}0.6^{\circ}C)$ and gel strength $(31.35{\pm}4.37\;sec)$ suitable for liquid suppository system, was easily administered and not leak out from the body. About 60% of $PGE_1$ was released out within 2 h from this formulation. It was shown that the release of $PGE_1$ was proportional to the square root of time, indicating that $PGE_1$ might be released from the suppository by Fickian diffusion. It was stable at $4^{\circ}C$ for at least 2 months. The results suggest that transurethral liquid suppository containing prostaglandin $E_1-loaded$ microemulsion is thought to be a convenient, safe and effective dosage form for $PGE_1$. However, it should be further developed as a more convenient and stable dosage form for $PGE_1$.
