  • The design of a measurement system to perform Harmonic State Estimation (HSE) is a very complex problem. In particular, the number of available harmonic instruments(Continuous Harmonic Analysis in Real Time : CHART) is always limited. Therefore, a systematic procedure is needed to design the optimal placement of measurement points. This paper presents a new HSE algorithm which is based on an optimal placement of measurement points using Genetic Algorithms (GAs). This HSE has been applied to the New Zealand AC Power System for the validation of the new HSE algorithm. The study results have indicated an economical and effective method for optimal placement of measurement points using GAs in the HSE.

  • To develop a unconventional gas reservoir, an analysis of tight rock property are required. Especially, conventional measurements are difficult to be applied to unconventional resources such as tight gas reservoir because the permeability are extremely low compared to a conventional gas reservoir. In this study, an apparatus was developed for measuring low permeability and porosity based on a pressure pulse decay method under unsteady state conditions. The apparatus was applied for measuring the porosity and permeability of tight sand core samples from Gyeongsang basin in Korea. As a validation of the measurement, regression analysis was carried out using the dimensionless pseudo-pressure between the measured data and analytical solution. The results show the correlation coefficients above 0.96. Therefore, it is believed that the apparatus has a high accuracy.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the possibility of utilizing various types of nozzles and gas-liquid mixers to increase the dissolution rate of plasma gas containing ozone generated in a dielectric barrier plasma reactor. After selecting the air atomizing nozzle with the highest gas dissolution rate among the 13 types of test equipment, we investigated the influence of the operating factors on the air atomizing nozzle to determine the optimal plasma gas dissolution method. The gas dissolution rate was measured by a simple and indirect method, specifically, the measurement of KLa instead of direct measurement of ozone concentration, which requires a longer analysis time. The results showed that the KLa value of the simple mix of air and water was $0.372min^{-1}$, Which is 1.44 times higher than that ($0.258min^{-1}$) of gas emitted from a normal diffuser. Among the nozzles of the same type, the KLa value was highest for the nozzle having the smallest orifice diameter. Among the 13 types of devices tested, the nozzle with highest KLa value was the M22M nozzle, which is a gas-liquid spray nozzle. The relationship between water circulation flow rate and KLa value in the experimental range was linear. The air supply flow rate and KLa value showed a parabolic-type correlation, while the optimum air supply flow rate for the water circulation flow rate of 1.8 L / min is 1.38 times.

  • Linear GPA(Gas Path Analysis) and non-linear GPA programs for performance diagnostics of a turboprop engine were developed, and a study for selection of optimal measurement variables was performed. Simultaneous faults in the compressor, the compressor turbine and the power turbine, which occur damage of the engine, were assumed. The non-linear GPA analysis was carried out with an iterative method, where the performance degradation rate of independent parameters was divided into same intervals. It was compared with the result by the Newton-Raphson method for observing the effect of an iterative method. According to the analysis result, it was found that performance of non-linear GPA can be influenced on the type of the iterative method. For showing effects of the number of measurement variables both the linear and non-linear GPAs were analyzed with 10, 8 and 6 measurement sets, respectively. RMS error between them were compared each other. It was realized that the more measurement parameters are used, and the more accurate result may be obtained. However much better result can be obtained with measurement parameters selected properly Moreover, RMS error by using non-linear GPA was less than that by using linear GPA.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate indirect methods of engine torque measurement. Three indirect methods based on throttle valve opening, exhaust gas temperature and inlet air pressure were compared. The indirect method based on throttle valve opening appeared to be the most satisfactory in terms of accuracy and response time. The discrepancies between the direct method and the indirect method based on throttle valve opening in measuring engine torque were 2% on t he average.

  • The gas-assisted injection molding process is often perceived to be unpredictable, because of the extreme sensitivity of the gas. Since a slight change in design or process parameters can significantly change the resulting gas penetration, few designers and molders have the level of experience with the new gas-assisted injection molding process required for the development of new parts. This paper is concerned with the unified molding for a thick cosmetic chest by using gas-assisted injection molding. CAE analysis was carried out to design the part and the gas channel without inducing sink marks. And based on the part weight measurement, the processing parameters to control gas penetration percentage were chosen through the method of design of experiments. A thick cosmetic chest was successfully produced using the gas assist technology. The sink mark issue associated with the conventional injection molded parts was resolved. Weight savings and cycle-time reduction were also achieved.

  • It is useful to detect defects of a preform for resin transfer molding before and after placement into the mold. To conduct this test, the gas flow method has been developed. This method not only measures permeability but also detects defects utilizing the pressure readings obtained from the gas flow test. This paper introduces the methodology and examine the applicability to actual processes.
