The Effects of Family Values and Expectation for Social Support on Marriage Intention Among Male and Female College Students (가족가치관과 사회적 지지에 대한 기대가 남녀 대학생의 결혼의향에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of family values and expectations for social support on marriage intention among male and female college students. This study involved 427 male and female college students attending colleges located in Seoul. The results are as follows: First, college students in this study tended to have relatively traditional family values in sub-scales including value of children, value of marriage and gender role attitude. Moreover, college students were found to have relatively high expectations toward social support and marriage intention. Second, male students had a higher traditional tendency for all sub-scales of family values including value of children, value of marriage and gender role attitude compared to female students. In addition, they tended to have higher expectations on social support and marriage intention than female students. Third, a greater intention to marry was seen in male students having more traditional values of children and a higher expectation toward future income. The value of children was found to be the most influential factor on marriage intention of male students in the present study. On the contrary, marriage intention was higher in female students the older they were, the greater the expectation of informal support, the lower the expectation of future income, and the more the traditional attitudes toward marriage. Informal support was found to be the most influential factor on marriage intention of female students in the present study.

Determinants of Media Influence on College Students' Housing Expectations (미디어가 대학생의 주거 기대에 미치는 영향력 수준 결정 요인)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine media influence on college students' thoughts and explore determinants of the media influence. Between September 7, 2013, and September 12, 2013, a questionnaire survey was administered to students at university-A and total 328 useable responses were collected. Findings are as follows: (1) Houses in TV drama had a strong influence on college students' future housing preferences but had a relatively weak influence on housing satisfaction and concrete housing expectations; (2) students perceived that houses in TV dramas did not reflect reality well; (3) females and/or relatively younger respondents tended to perceive a stronger influence of media on their thoughts and expectation on housing; (4) respondents who had a stronger desire to imitate lifestyle of TV drama characters and a stronger perception that houses in TV drama reflected reality well, and the respondents whose consumption preferences were more easily influenced by media were found to perceive media influence on their housing expectation stronger; and (5) to see regression analysis results, a linear combination of desire to imitate lifestyle of TV drama characters, perception of reality reflection of houses in TV dramas, gender, perceived media influences on clothes and accessories, and electronics preferences was found to be able to explain 46.4% of variance in media influence on housing expectations.

Interpretive Planning Which Is "In Tune" With Visitors Expectations in Nature Park: Case Study in Jogyesan Provincial Park, Jeonnam, Korea

  • This research is based on a visitor survey at Jogyesan Provincial Park in Jeonnam, and its implications for interpretive planning. The research population was the set of weekend and holiday visitors, 20 years of age and older, to Jogyesan Provincial Park in Jeonnam, during the summer of 2003. A questionnaire was offered to every tenth person entering the park on every other weekend day and both holidays (June 1 and September 30). It was obvious that the interpretive program at Jogyesan Provincial Park, to meet the expectations of its visitors, should provide: (1) visitors with opportunities to experience the out-of-doors and learn about the cultural, historical and natural surroundings; (2) opportunities for the visitors to relax and escape from the normal and work environment; and (3) opportunities for the visitors to experience an atmosphere which enables them to achieve and self-actualize. In the area of interpretive programs, expectations are usually priorities, except for mountain climbing and exercise. Enhancing achievement and self-actualization is rarely a consideration and needs more emphasis in the future interpretive programs and plans.

Estimation of the Korean Yield Curve via Bayesian Variable Selection (베이지안 변수선택을 이용한 한국 수익률곡선 추정)

  • A central bank infers market expectations of future yields based on yield curves. The central bank needs to precisely understand the changes in market expectations of future yields in order to have a more effective monetary policy. This need explains why a range of models have attempted to produce yield curves and market expectations that are as accurate as possible. Alongside the development of bond markets, the interconnectedness between them and macroeconomic factors has deepened, and this has rendered understanding of what macroeconomic variables affect yield curves even more important. However, the existence of various theories about determinants of yields inevitably means that previous studies have applied different macroeconomics variables when estimating yield curves. This indicates model uncertainties and naturally poses a question: Which model better estimates yield curves? Put differently, which variables should be applied to better estimate yield curves? This study employs the Dynamic Nelson-Siegel Model and takes the Bayesian approach to variable selection in order to ensure precision in estimating yield curves and market expectations of future yields. Bayesian variable selection may be an effective estimation method because it is expected to alleviate problems arising from a priori selection of the key variables comprising a model, and because it is a comprehensive approach that efficiently reflects model uncertainties in estimations. A comparison of Bayesian variable selection with the models of previous studies finds that the question of which macroeconomic variables are applied to a model has considerable impact on market expectations of future yields. This shows that model uncertainties exert great influence on the resultant estimates, and that it is reasonable to reflect model uncertainties in the estimation. Those implications are underscored by the superior forecasting performance of Bayesian variable selection models over those models used in previous studies. Therefore, the use of a Bayesian variable selection model is advisable in estimating yield curves and market expectations of yield curves with greater exactitude in consideration of the impact of model uncertainties on the estimation.

Effects of the Korean Pharmaceutical Export Supporting Program's Service Quality on Export Performance Expectation of Korean Pharmaceutical Companies (국내 제약 산업 수출지원서비스 품질이 기업의 수출 기대치에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: This study aimed to provide a comprehensive analysis of the relationship between the service quality of the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI), along with the utilization of and customer satisfaction with its export supporting program, and the export performance of Korean pharmaceutical companies. Methods: An online and offline survey was conducted on Korean pharmaceutical companies that have used the export supporting program provided by KHIDI. Data on the service quality of KHIDI, utilization of and customer satisfaction with the export supporting program, and company export performance were collected via survey. Results: Results indicated that systemizing and reliability service factors of the export supporting program have a significant impact on customer satisfaction, and customer satisfaction has a significant impact on utilization of the export supporting program. Furthermore, customer satisfaction and utilization of the program have a significant impact on company expectations regarding future export performance. Conclusions: As a result, service quality, utilization, and customer satisfaction were found to affect Korean pharmaceutical company's expectations regarding their future export performance. The results of this study can significantly impact the development of export supporting programs.

  • Big data is prominently used as a prediction method in achieving a goal, because it can analyze the regularities to predict future results from a vast amount of past data. Furthermore, big data has huge influence in very diverse academic fields. On such awareness, this study analyzed the regular effect of e-Commerce usefulness from the effects which expectations on big-data service affect the usage purpose of e-Commerce usefulness. This study categorized e-Commerce usefulness into quality recognition, service, and ease, and studied how each category works between the relationship of big-data service expectation and the use intention.

  • This study reveals the status, perceptions, and future directions associated with green building within construction-related companies. A survey research method was used to capture current experience levels and capabilities of companies with regard to green construction. Expectations and perceptions about the future of the construction industry with regard to green building were obtained from construction-related companies recruiting from the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech from 2006 and 2008. The findings of this study support the growing importance of green building as a component of the whole construction market and provide a benchmark against which to measure future changes in the industry over time.

  • Korea will face difficult social problems including population decline and climate change in the future. Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered ICT convergence services are expected to greatly help in overcoming these social challenges. Accordingly, we have derived key promising services (AI+x) in terms of individuals, industries, and countries and identified expectations and threats perceived by the general public. These findings provide policies and research directions for promising AI-based ICT convergence services for social goods.

  • This study presents the findings from research on the Everyday Life Information Seeking (ELIS) behaviors of Korean government officials in their 50s. 500 survey respondents participated and the quantitative data were analyzed through Structural Equation Model having six key concepts such as personal information environment, information-seeking attitudes, online information attitudes, barriers to information seeking, retirement expectations, and library expectations. The findings showed the important relationships between expectations of the retirement and two constructs (personal information environment and information-seeking attitudes). This study can be used as a strategic implication for library practitioners to develop their library management process in accordance to the potential and powerful evolving user group in a future aged society.

Users' Experience of Sharing Economy Service and Moderating Effect of Social Interaction: Focused on Bicycle-Sharing Service (공유경제서비스의 이용경험과 사회적 상호작용의 조절효과: 자전거공유서비스를 중심으로)

  • Purpose The main purpose of this study is to examine whether the expectations and outcomes of the bicycle-sharing service significantly influence users' expectation disconfirmation, satisfaction, and continuous intention to use. In addition, we will verify the moderating effect of social interaction in bicycle-sharing service on the relationship between satisfaction and continuous intention to use. Design/methodology/approach Based on previous studies dealing with determinants of bicycle use, users' expectations and outcomes of the bicycle-sharing service were measured by three variables; accessibility, convenience, and safety. To collect the data, we conducted a survey of undergraduates at a university located in Seoul for three weeks, beginning March 6. Participants completed the first questionnaire, which measured expectations of the bicycle-sharing service based on the attributes and social interaction before using the BSS. After a few weeks, the same participants completed the second questionnaire, which measured outcomes of the outcome, disconfirmation, satisfaction, and continuous intention to use the BSS. Only participants who completed both surveys received monetary compensation. In order to test hypothesis, the Smart Partial Least Square (SmartPLS) modeling technique was applied. Findings In terms of main effects, based on the expectation disconfirmation theory, the results indicated that there were significant relationship among expectation, performance, disconfirmation, and satisfaction. In particular, it was verified that disconfirmation completely plays a mediating role between performance and satisfaction. In addition, the moderating effect of social interaction was examined. There was a significant interaction effects of social interaction and satisfaction on the continuous intention to use for leisure purpose. Finally, this study is expected to contribute to the study of resource sharing in the field of tourism and provide baseline information for future research.
