The major objective of this paper is to study the receding contact problem between two functional graded layers under a flat indenter. The gravity is assumed negligible, and the shear moduli of both layers are assumed to vary exponentially along the thickness direction. In the absence of body forces, the problem is reduced to a system of Fredholm singular integral equations with the contact pressure and contact size as unknowns via Fourier integral transform, which is transformed into an algebraic one by the Gauss-Chebyshev quadratures and polynomials of both the first and second kinds. Then, an iterative speediest descending algorithm is proposed to numerically solve the system of algebraic equations. Both semi-analytical and finite element method, FEM solutions for the presented problem validate each other. To improve the accuracy of the numerical result of FEM, a graded FEM solution is performed to simulate the FGM mechanical characteristics. The results reveal the potential links between the contact stress/size and the indenter size, the thickness, as well as some other material properties of FGM.

This article aims to investigate the static deflection and stress analysis of bi-directional functionally graded porous plate (BDFGPP) modeled by unified higher order kinematic theories to include the shear stress effects, which not be considered before. Different shear functions are described according to higher order models that satisfy the zero-shear influence at the top and bottom surfaces, and hence refrain from the need of shear correction factor. The material properties are graded through two spatial directions (i.e., thickness and length directions) according to the power law distribution. The porosities and voids inside the material constituent are described by different cosine functions. Hamilton's principle is implemented to derive the governing equilibrium equation of bi-directional FG porous plate structures. An efficient numerical differential integral quadrature method (DIQM) is exploited to solve the coupled variable coefficients partial differential equations of equilibrium. Problem validation and verification have been proven with previous prestigious work. Numerical results are illustrated to present the significant impacts of kinematic shear relations, gradation indices through thickness and length, porosity type, and boundary conditions on the static deflection and stress distribution of BDFGP plate. The proposed model is efficient in design and analysis of many applications used in nuclear, mechanical, aerospace, naval, dental, and medical fields.
Nonlinear behavior of functionally graded material (FGM) plates under thermal loads is investigated here using an efficient sinusoidal shear deformation theory. The displacement field is chosen based on assumptions that the in-plane and transverse displacements consist of bending and shear components, and the shear components of in-plane displacements give rise to the sinusoidal distribution of transverse shear stress through the thickness in such a way that shear stresses vanish on the plate surfaces. Therefore, there is no need to use shear correction factor. Unlike the conventional sinusoidal shear deformation theory, the proposed efficient sinusoidal shear deformation theory contains only four unknowns. The material is graded in the thickness direction and a simple power law based on the rule of mixture is used to estimate the effective material properties. The neutral surface position for such FGM plates is determined and the sinusoidal shear deformation theory based on exact neutral surface position is employed here. There is no stretching-bending coupling effect in the neutral surface-based formulation, and consequently, the governing equations and boundary conditions of functionally graded plates based on neutral surface have the simple forms as those of isotropic plates. The non-linear strain-displacement relations are also taken into consideration. The thermal loads are assumed as uniform, linear and non-linear temperature rises across the thickness direction. Closed-form solutions are presented to calculate the critical buckling temperature, which are useful for engineers in design. Numerical results are presented for the present efficient sinusoidal shear deformation theory, demonstrating its importance and accuracy in comparison to other theories.

In this study, a virtual specimen with a linear continuous gradient of void ratio (FGM: Functional Graded Material) is constructed using low-order probability functions of two real cement paste specimens. Two real specimens with difference void ratios are taken from X-ray CT to construct the virtual specimen. A virtual specimen with a gradient void distribution, whose average void ratio is between void ratios of two homogeneous real specimens, is constructed using a stochastic optimization approach. The void ratio distribution is assumed to be linear, and continuously varies in the vertical direction. In this study, a gradient term of void ratio is incorporated into the objective function as well as low-order probability functions from the previous research. To confirm the effect of gradient void distribution on the material response, air permeability is evaluated using finite element analysis. The analysis results are compared with experimental results, and confirm the effect of gradient void distribution on permeability.
The thermal stress between W plasma-facing material (PFM) and Cu heat sink in fusion reactors can be significantly reduced by using a W-Cu functionally graded material (W-Cu FGM) interlayer. However, there is still considerable stress at the joining interface between W and W-Cu FGM in the W/W-Cu FGM/Cu portions. In this work, we fabricate W skeletons with continuous gradients in porosity by a modified sedimentation method. Sintering densification behavior and pore characteristics of the sedimented W skeletons at different sintering temperatures were investigated. After Cu infiltration, the final W-Cu FGM was obtained. The results indicate that the pore size and porosity in the W skeleton decrease gradually with the increase of sintering temperature, but the increase of skeleton sintering temperature does not reduce the gradient range of composition distribution of the final prepared W-Cu FGM. And W-Cu FGM with composition distribution from pure W to W-20.5wt.% Cu layer across the section was successfully obtained. The thickness of the pure W layer is about one-fifth of the whole sample thickness. In addition, the prepared W-Cu FGM has a relative density of 94.5 % and thermal conductivity of 185 W/(m·K). The W-Cu FGM prepared in this work may provide a good solution to alleviate the thermal stress between W PFM and Cu heat sink in the fusion reactors.
In this paper, a new application of a four variable refined plate theory to analyze the nonlinear bending of functionally graded plates exposed to thermo-mechanical loadings, is presented. This recent theory is based on the assumption that the transverse displacements consist of bending and shear components in which the bending components do not contribute toward shear forces, and similarly, the shear components do not contribute toward bending moments. The derived transverse shear strains has a quadratic variation across the thickness that satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate without using shear correction factors. The material properties are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness of the plate according to a power-law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. The solutions are achieved by minimizing the total potential energy. The non-linear strain-displacement relations in the von Karman sense are used to derive the effect of geometric non-linearity. It is concluded that the proposed theory is accurate and simple in solving the nonlinear bending behavior of functionally graded plates.
In this paper, the free and forced vibration analysis of rotating cantilever nanoscale cylindrical beams and tubes is investigated under the external dynamic load to examine the nonlocal effect. A couple of nonlocal strain gradient theories with different beams and tubes theories, involving the Euler-Bernoulli, Timoshenko, Reddy beam theory along with the higher-order tube theory, are assumed to the mathematic model of governing equations employing the Hamilton principle in order to derive the nonlocal governing equations related to the local and accurate nonlocal boundary conditions. The two-dimensional functional graded material (2D-FGM), made by the axially functionally graded (AFG) in conjunction with the porosity distribution in the radial direction, is considered material modeling. Finally, the derived Partial Differential Equations (PDE) are solved via a couple of the generalized differential quadrature element methods (GDQEM) with the Newmark-beta techniques for the time-dependent results. It is indicated that the boundary conditions equations play a crucial task in responding to nonlocal effects for the cantilever structures.
Now in the 21st century, all the industries in our world are rapidly changing, including fashion trends and customers' needs as well. Fashion textile planning is also developing towards the direction where it could satisfy the merged sensitivity and incentive of the customers through an idea. The purpose of this study is to accentuate the importance of fashion material planning in fitting conventional patterns and eco-benign fabric materials. Accordingly, this study is mainly focused on the reflection of fabric planning characteristics to show tradition containing comfort and naturalness. As mixing with established fabrics and blending with natural/functional fabrics, and conforming to the trend of the seasonal fabric, it has developed a new structure and pattern by changing the basic source of traditional patterns to a computer aided design system. Therefore, four different types of items were basically up-graded by fitting it in with traditional patterns.
By employing a quasi-3D plate formulation, the present research studies static stability of magneto-electro-thermo-elastic functional grading (METE-FG) nano-sized plates. Accordingly, influences of shear deformations as well as thickness stretching have been incorporated. The gradation of piezo-magnetic and elastic properties of the nano-sized plate have been described based on power-law functions. The size-dependent formulation for the nano-sized plate is provided in the context of nonlocal elasticity theory. The governing equations are established with the usage of Hamilton's rule and then analytically solved for diverse magnetic-electric intensities. Obtained findings demonstrate that buckling behavior of considered nanoplate relies on the variation of material exponent, electro-magnetic field, nonlocal coefficient and boundary conditions.
In this article, wave propagation in functional gradation plates (FG) resting on an elastic foundation with two parameters is studied using a new quasi-three-dimensional (3D) higher shear deformation theory (HSDT). The new qausi-3D HSOT has only five variables in fields displacement, which means has few numbers of unknowns compared with others quasi-3D. This higher shear deformation theory (HSDT) includes shear deformation and effect stretching with satisfying the boundary conditions of zero traction on the surfaces of the FG plate without the need for shear correction factors. The FG plates are considered to rest on the Winkler layer, which is interconnected with a Pasternak shear layer. The properties of the material graded for the plates are supposed to vary smoothly, with the power and the exponential law, in the z-direction. By based on Hamilton's principle, we derive the governing equations of FG plates resting on an elastic foundation, which are then solved analytically to obtain the dispersion relations. Numerical results are presented in the form of graphs and tables to demonstrate the effectiveness of the current quasi-3D theory and to analyze the effect of the elastic foundation on wave propagation in FG plates.
