Purpose : The objective of this study was to establish the serum IGF-1 level in newborn infants, and investigate its association with growth and diseases. Methods : In a retrospective study, serum IGF-1 levels were measured for newborn infants admitted to NICU at Kyungpook University Hospital from March 2007 to July 2007. Birth data, disease history, and hospital course were obtained from medical records. Results : Of 52 blood samples obtained at birth, serum IGF-l levels in 30 preterm infants ($31.6{\pm}27.3$ ng/mL) were lower than in 22 full-term infants ($53.4{\pm}40.0$ ng/mL; P<0.05). In sick full-term infants, serum IGF-1 levels ($46.0{\pm}40.2$ ng/mL) were lower than in healthy full-term infants ($64.1{\pm}39.5$ ng/mL; P<0.05). In preterm infants, there were no differences in IGF-1 levels between healthy ($33.2{\pm}23.3$ ng/mL) and sick infants ($30.6{\pm}30.4$ ng/mL); however, IGF-1 levels in both sick and healthy preterm infants were lower than in healthy full-term infants. Among infants admitted after 8 days of life, serum IGF-1 levels were higher in infants who gained weight ($70.8{\pm}36.2$ ng/mL) than in infants who lost weight ($13.3{\pm}19.9$ ng/mL; P<0.01); however IGF-1 levels showed no difference between gender or method of delivery. Conclusion : The study showed lower IGF-l levels in preterm infants than in full-term infants. Additionally, the IGF-l level in infants with weight loss was lower than in infants with weight gain. These results indicate that serum IGF-1 is associated with gestational age and postnatal growth.
Purpose: This study was aimed at analyzing the serotypes of group B streptococcus (GBS) isolated from Korean infants with invasive disease and evaluating their association with disease manifestation. Methods: Data were retrospectively collected from invasive GBS infections at Gachon University Gil Medical Center from January 2006 to June 2012 and at Samsung Medical Center from April 2010 to November 2012. Serotypes were determined by slide agglutination test. Results: A total of 37 cases were identified, which included 22 full-term infants and 15 preterm infants. Fifteen cases (40.5%) were early-onset, 19 (51.4%) was late-onset, and three (8.1%) was very late-onset. Early-onset diseases among preterm infants were higher than those among full-term infants (60.0% [9/15] vs. 27.3% [6/22], P=0.17). The most common manifestation was bacteremia (70.3%), followed by meningitis and septic arthritis. Among 24 isolates retrievable for serotyping, serotype III (41.7%) was most common, followed by V (16.7%), Ia, Ib, and II (12.5%, respectively), and non-typeable (4.2%). Serotype III was more common in isolates from full-term infants (10/22) than from preterm infants (0/15), whereas serotype V was more common in isolates from preterm infants (4/15) than from full-term infants (0/22) (P=0.002). No penicillin-resistant strain was detected, and resistance to erythromycin and clindamycin were both 64.9%. Conclusions: GBS is an important pathogen in both preterm and full-term infants, and serotype distribution of GBS causing invasive diseases can differ between preterm and full-term infants. It is necessary to monitor the nationwide epidemiology of GBS diseases, including in preterm infants, in order to prepare preventive measures without underestimating early-onset diseases.
Background: This study was performed to evaluate the incidence and clinical characteristics of symptomatic pneumothorax in the full-term neonate. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 32 symptomatic pneumothorax patients in the full term neonates who admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit in Ulsan Dong Kang General Hospital from January, 2000 to December, 2004. The subjects were divided into two groups according to underlying causes; spontaneous pneumothorax group and secondary pneumothorax group, then each clinical characteristics were assessed. Results: Spontaneous pneumothorax patients were 10(31%) and secondary pneumothorax patients were 22(69%). Overall incidence of spontaneous pneumothorax was 0.4%. Most common cause of secondary pneumothorax was pneumonia. Twelve cases(54.5%) among secondary pneumothorax patients were associated with mechanical ventilator care. Clinical characteristics, courses and managements were similar between two groups, but more shorter duration of admission and chest-tube insertion in spontaneous pneumothorax group Conclusion: The patient with symptomatic pneumothorax needs careful observation and proper management with or without underlying respiratory diseases.

In order to recommend future national policy directions on energy supply and consumption and to suggest energy technological priorities to be developed, comprehensive energy models have been developed through this study in a sense of strategic and systematic approach. The “energy input-output model” has been formulated to analyze the mutual impacts between energy consumption patterns and industrial structures and to calculate energy intensities of industrial sectors. The long-term energy demands to the year 2000 were forecasted by using multi-regressional method and the optimal energy flow balances for five-year interval have been studied by using the “energy linear programming model” being took full account of interfuel substitutability and technology.
Ferromagnet/Semiconductor heterostructures have attracted much attention because of their potential applications in spintronic devices. We investigated the electronic structures and magnetism of monolayer Fe on $CuGaSe_2(001)$ by using the all-electron full-potential linearized augmented plane-wave method within a generalized gradient approximation. We considered the monolayer Fe deposited on both the CuGa atoms terminated (CuGa-Term) and the Se atom terminated (Se-Term) surfaces of $CuGaSe_2(001)$. The calculated magnetic moment of the Fe atom on the CuGa-Term was about $2.90\;{{\mu}_B}$. Those of the Fe atoms on the Se-Term were in the range of $2.85-2.98\;{{\mu}_B}$. The different magnetic behaviors of the Fe atoms on two different surfaces were discussed using the calculated layer-projected density of states.
To investigate and predict the long-term time-dependent behavior, such as creep, shrinkage, and relaxation of PS strands, and prestress loss in prestressed steel-concrete composite beams, named Precom, full-scale tests were conducted and the collected data were compared with those obtained from the two proposed analytical models. The combined effective modulus method (EMM)-empirical model proposed with a flowchart considered the creep effect to determine the prestress loss. Conversely, the age-adjusted effective modulus method (AEMM) with CEB-FIP equation was developed to account for the concrete aging. The results indicated that the AEMM with CEB-FIP model predicts the long-term behavior of Precom effectively.

In this paper, we propose a partial full duplex relay scheme for 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) LTE (Long Term Evolution)-Advanced system using a Type 1 relay. The Type 1 relay as inband relay is prohibited to transmit and receive simultaneously because of self-interference. Therefore, the Type 1 relay cannot receive synchronization signals which are transmitted to eNB. To overcoming this problem, we propose the partial full duplex relay scheme which transmits to R-UE (Relay-User Equipment) and receives from eNB (evolved NodeB) simultaneously when eNB and the Type 1 relay transmit subframes which have synchronization signals. Additionally, for solving self-interference, the Type 1 relay transmitter and receiver antennas are sufficiently sufficiently isolated and self-interference cancellation is applied for the self-interference signal from the relay transmitter. Thus, the partial full duplex relay scheme can receive synchronization signals from eNB and solve the problems of conventional solutions and we propose the partial channel estimation scheme for partial full duplex relay scheme using SCI. By extensive computer simulation, we verify that the partial full duplex relay scheme is attractive and suitable for the Type 1 relay system.

We would generally use subject terms such as subject indexing for searching and accessing documents. So then, there must be any relationship between document's full-text and its subject terms. This study is started in this question. Master's theses in field of science and technology are worked with because full-text is relatively formatted. This study is to study locations of subject term on Thesis, distribution patterns of subject terms on content of full-text; 'Contents', 'Introduction', 'Theory', 'Main subject', 'Conclusion' and 'References'. Thesis were averagely composed of 1226.3 terms. And Subject terms were averagely compose of $12{\sim}13$ terms. As a result, 'Contents' and 'Introduction' have had the most frequency of subject.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the developmental ability of mouse embryo in the presence of human amniotic fluid (hAF), The highest development rate was found in the culture media supplemented with 20% mid-term hAF but this rate was concomitantly reduced with more than 20% hAF. Furthermore, mouse two-cell embryos cultured in 20% mid-term hAF were developed more consistently to the expanded and hatched blastocyst stages compared to those cultured in simple medium. However, no significant differences in the embryo development rates were observed among the supplemented effects of 20% mid-term hAF, 0.3% bovine serum albumin (BSA), and 10% fetal calf serum (FCS), Development rates of two-ceiI mouse embryos cultured in 20% full-term hAF were declined compared to 20% mid-term hAF. Outgrowth of hatched blastocysts were observed when the embryos were cultured in medium containing 20% mid-term hAF or 10% FCS. But two-cell mouse embryos cultured in the presence of 20% full-term hAF or O.3% BSA was not observed their outgrowth. The kinetics of outgrowth processes in the presence of hAF were similar to those with 10% FCS. However, embryos with FCS showed a considerably greater extents of trophetodermal cell proliferation and outgrowth. Taken together, these data suggest that mid-term hAF may have a suitability for the mammalian embryos and induce embryonic outgrowth.
The half-metallicity and magnetism of the (001) surfaces of $(AlP)_1/(CrP)_1$ superlattice were investigated by means of FLAPW (Full-potential Liniarized Augmented Plane Wave) method. We considered four types of (001) surface termination, i.e., Al(S)-, Cr(S)-, P(S)Al(S-1)- and P(S)Cr(S-1)-term systems. We found that only Cr(S)-term system maintains the half-metallicity at the surface as only this system has the calculated magnetic moment of integer number of bohr magnetons. The magnetic moment of Cr(S) atom in the system was $3.02{\mu}_B$ which was increased from the bulk value by the effects of band narrowing and increased spin-splitting at the surface. The electronic density of states of the P(S) atom in the P(S)Al(S-1)-term showed very sharp surface states due to the broken $p_z$ bonds at the surface. We found there is still a strong p-d hybridization between the P(S) and Cr(S-1) layers in the P(S)Cr(S-1)-term which causes a considerable increase of magnetic moment of P(S) atom.
