An Experimental Study on the Fracture and Shear Bonding Strength of Resin-modified Glass lonomer Cements (Resin-modified glass ionomer cements의 파절 및 저단결합강도에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the fracture and shear bonding strength of resin-modified glass ionomer cements with composite resin and conventional glass ionomer cement Three kinds of restorative materials including a composite resin (Z 100), a conventional glass ionomer cement(Fuji II), and resin- modified glass ionomer cements(Fuji II LC, Vitremer, Dyract and Compoglass) were investigated in this study. For measurement of fracture and shear bonding strength, disk samples of the materials were prepared and cylindrical samples of the materials were bonded the flat enamel and dentin surfaces according to manufactuer's instructions. All specimen were determinated by using an Instron testing machine with a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. Then, each treated enamel and dentin surface was observed by SEM. The following results were obtained. 1. The bi-axial flexural strength of Z 100 was highest, and Fuji n LC, Vitremer, Dyract and Compoglass were significantly higher than Fuji n (P<0.05). 2. The shear bonding strength of Z 100 on the enamel and dentin surface was higher than other experimental groups except Fuji II LC(P<0.05). Fuji II LC was significantly higher than Fuji II (P<0.05), but in the case of Vitremer, Dyract and Compoglass were similar to Fuji II (P>0.05). 3. The shear bonding strength of Z 100 and Fuji II LC on the enamel surface were highly increased as compared with dentin surface (P<0.05), but in the case of Fuji II, Vitremer, Dyract and Compoglass were not different between enamel and dentin(P>0.05). 4. In the Z 100 and Fuji II LC, obvious etched enamel surface and exposed dentinal tubules according to remove of smear layer and smear plug were observed.

  • We have successfully commercialized a novel optical compensation film, OCB-WV film, for OCB-LCD-TVs which has fast response time and wide viewing angle. The OCB-WV film consists of a 45degree-aligned discotic layer and a high Rth biaxial TAC film, which is suited for a roll-to-roll polarizer manufacturing process. This OCB-WV has brought out the excellent features that OCB intrinsically has, making nextgeneration fast-response LCD-TVs possible and free from image blurring in conjunction with an impulsive driving scheme.

MOUNT FUJI [CI] LINE SURVEY

  • We have constructed the Mount Fuji submillimeter-wave telescope at Nishiyasugawara (alt. 3725 m) near the summit of Mt. Fuji (alt. 3774 m). Thanks to the excellent condition of Mt. Fuji, we have successfully carried out the [CI] survey toward more than 40 square degrees of sky, including qrion MC, Taurus MC, Rosetta MC, DR 15, DR 21, NGC 1333, NGC 2264, W 3, W 44, W 51, L 134, p-Oph. Our [CI] survey have revealed that the [CI] 492 GHz emission widely extends to the molecular clouds. The spatial and velocity structures of the [CI] 492 GHz emission resemble those of 13CO J=l-0 in many molecular clouds, implying that [CI] 492 GHz and $^{13}CO$ J=1-0 are emitted from the same gas. The column density of $C^o$ linearly correlates with that of CO up to high Av, suggesting that $C^o$ exist in the deep interior of molecular clouds. In several regions, we have found that the distributions of $C^o$ and CO are different from each other. The $C^o$-rich area is found in the Hieles' cloud 2. The C+/CO/$C^o$ configuration is found in DR 15, p-Oph, M 17, Orion KL, and NGC 1333. These results indicate that an origin of $C^o$ is unrelated with the photodissociation process. We discuss the observed $C^o$ distributions in relation to the non-equilibrium chemistry.

Changes of Lipid Components and Pigments in Apple Peels during the Storage under Sub - atmospheric Pressure (사과의 감압저장중(減壓貯藏中) 과피지질성분(果皮脂質成分)과 색소(色素)의 변화(變化))

  • The changes of lipid components in apple peels which effects physiological characteristic in apple storage, and pigment which is important base in quality, were investigated in terms of temperature and pressure. The results obtained were as follows ; The contents of total lipid of Ralls which is resistant to cold temperature were higher than those of Fuji. The contents of total lipid of Fuji and Ralls were decreased up to about 60 days and then increased up to the final stage of storage. Especially, the increasing rate at low temperature storage was greater than at normal temperature storage. In the case of Fuji, the contents of neutral lipid of normal temperature were increased up to 90 days, while those of low temperature were decreased up to 60 days and then increased up to 90 days. The contents of glycolipid, in both Fuji and Ralls were decreased up to about 30 days and then increased up to about 60 days and the decreased up to 90 days. The contents of phospholipid in Fuji were decreased during storage, while those in Ralls were appeared very slight changes. The ratios of unsaturated fatty acid to saturated fatty acids in neutral lipid of Fuji were decreased during storage, but those of Ralls were increased. Those of glycolipid of Fuji were decreased up to 60 days and then increased up to 90 days, while those in Ralls were increased during storage. In both Fuji and Ralls, those of phospholipid increased during storage and were high in order of sub-atmospheric pressure at $1^{\circ}C$ (SAP-L), normal atmospheric pressure at $1^{\circ}C$ (NAP-L), sub-atmospheric pressure at $20^{\circ}C$ (SAP-N) and normal atmospheric pressure at $20^{\circ}C$(NAP-N) for storage condition. The contents of chlorophyll of Ralls were higher than those of Fuji and the decreasing rate was the lowest in SAP-L. The changes of carotenoid and anthocyanin contents were the greatest increasing at NAP-N and colouring was delayed at SAP-L.

The effects of salivary contamination on tensile bond strength of resin modified glass ionomer cements in bonding brackets (브라켓 접착시 타액 오염이 레진 강화형 글래스 아이오노머 시멘트의 인장 접착 강도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purposes of this study were to evaluate clinical applicability of resin modified glass ionomer cements and to determine the effect of salivary contamination on the tensile bond strength. Fourty extracted human permanent premolars were prepared lot bonding and standard edgewise brackets were bonded with Ortho-One, Fuji Ortho LC, Vitremer and Advance. Fourty extracted human permanent premolars were contaminated with saliva, dried and bonded with same materials above. The tensile bond strength was tested by Instron testing device aster storage in normal saline at ,$37^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours from bonding. The results were as follows : 1. The tensile bond strength of Ortho-One group was $7.68\pm1.76$, Advance group was $7.87\pm2.80$, Fuji Ortho LC group was $4.99\pm2.53$, Vitremer group was $2.80\pm0.88$ MPa. The tensile bond strength in contaminated condition of Ortho-One group was $4.12\pm1.67$, Advance group was $5.37\pm0.68$, Fuji Ortho LC group was $4.41\pm1.61$, Vitremer group was $2.60\pm1.10$ Mpa. 2. Salivary contamination did not affect the tensile bond strength when compared with the uncontaminated enamel group in Fuji Ortho LC and Vitremer (p>0.05) and there was great significant difference in the tensile bond strength of Ortho-One and Advance. 3. Advance, Ortho-One and Fuji Ortho LC seemed to have clinically a proper bond strength.

Determination of volatile compounds by headspace-solid phase microextraction - gas chromatography / mass spectrometry: Quality evaluation of Fuji apple

  • The volatile components in 'Fuji' apple were effectively determined by a headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). A total of 48 volatile components were identified and tentatively characterized based on National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) MS spectra library and the Kovats GC retention index I (RI). The harvested Fuji apples were divided into two groups: 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) treated and non-treated (control) samples for finding important indicators between two groups. The major volatile components of both apples were 2-methylbutyl acetate, hexyl acetate, butyl 2-methylbutanoate, hexyl butanoate, hexyl 2-methylbutanoate, hexyl hexanoate and farnesene. No significant differences of these major compounds between 1-MCP treated and non-treated apples were observed during 1 month storage. Interestingly, the amount of off-flavors, including 1-butanol and butyl butanoate, in 1-MCP treated apples decreased over 5 months, and then increased after 7 months. However, non-treated apples did not show significant changes for off-flavors during 7 month storage (p<0.05). The non-treated apples also contained the higher levels of two off-flavors than 1-MCP treated apples. These two compounds, 1-butanol and butyl butanoate, can be used as quality indicators for the quality evaluation of Fuji apple.

Chitosan Coating Effects on Respiration Rate and Internal Gas Composition of 'Fuji' Apple and 'Satsuma' Mandarin

  • Effects of chitosan coating on respiration rate and internal gas composition of 'Fuji' apple and 'Satsuma' mandarin were investigated and compared to wax emulsions and two commercial coating materials. Chitosan coating reduced respiration rate significantly (p<0.05) in 'Fuji' apple and 'Satsuma' mandarin compared to uncoated and other coating materials. Chitosan coating on 'Fuji' apple showed the highest $CO_2$ and the lowest $O_2$ concentration in the internal gas composition at $5^{\circ}C$ but showed no differences compared to other coating materials at $20^{\circ}C$. 'Satsuma' mandarin showed significantly high $CO_2$ concentration in chitosan coating at $20^{\circ}C$ but there were not significant differences among coating materials in $CO_2$ and $O_2$ composition at $5^{\circ}C$.
