공정플랜트 연료배관의 시스템응력 해석에 의한 구조 건전성 평가 (Structural Integrity Evaluation by System Stress Analysis for Fuel Piping in a Process Plant)

  • Process gas piping is one of the most basic components frequently used in the refinery and petrochemical plants. Many kinds of by-product gas have been used as fuel in the process plants. In some plants, natural gas is additionally introduced and mixed with the byproduct gas for upgrading the fuel. In this case, safety or design margin of the changed piping system of the plant should be re-evaluated based on a proper design code such as ASME or API codes since internal pressure, temperature and gas compositions are different from the original plant design conditions. In this study, series of piping stress analysis were conducted for a process piping used for transporting the mixed gas of the by-product gas and the natural gas from a mixing drum to a knock-out drum in a refinery plant. The analysed piping section had been actually installed in a domestic industry and needed safety audit since the design condition was changed. Pipe locations of the maximum system stress and displacement were determined, which can be candidate inspection and safety monitoring points during the upcoming operation period. For studying the effects of outside air temperature to safety the additional stress analysis were conducted for various temperatures in $0{\sim}30^{\circ}C$. Effects of the friction coefficient between the pipe and support were also investigated showing a proper choice if the friction coefficient is important. The maximum system stresses were occurred mainly at elbow, tee and support locations, which shows the thermal load contributes considerably to the system stress rather than the internal pressure or the gravity loads.

산업용 보일러의 질소산화물 제어를 위한 SNCR 적용 연구 (Study of SNCR Application to Industrial Boiler for NOx Control)

  • 본 연구는 향후 산업적으로 질소산화물 규제가 중요한 문제로 대두될 만한 산업용 보일러를 대상으로 수행하였다. 일반적으로 SNCR 방법의 산업용 보일러로의 적용은 혼합을 위한 충분한 체류시간을 제공하지 못한다는 점에서 적합하지 않은 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 SNCR 장치의 산업용 보일러 적용가능성을 조사하기 위한 것이다. 구체적으로 연료로 중유를 사용하는 시간당 스팀 발생량 40톤 규모의 산업용 보일러를 연구 대상으로 하였다. 사업용 보일러의 수치 해석을 위한 3-D 직교좌표계 프로그램에는 난류 유동, 난류 연소반응, NOx의 생성과 환원제와의 반응을 통한 소멸반응 등을 포함하고 있다. 또한 개발된 코드에는 Lagrangian 방법에 의한 입자궤적 프로그램이 포함되어 있고, 주입구에서 접선방향으로의 선회효과를 계산에 의해 고려하였다. 선회버너 효과를 고려한 결과 단화염이 생성되었으며 NOx 환원반응에 적합한 온도 영역의 증가로 인해 NOx 제거효율도 향상되었다. 실험결과와의 비교를 통하여 프로그램을 검증하였으며, 계산결과 혼합용 공기 주입을 통한 환원제와의 혼합 향상을 통해서 SNCR 방법의 산업용 보일러 적용가능성을 확인하였다.

가시화 엔진을 이용한 직분식 디젤엔진내의 유동장 측정에 관한 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Measurement of Flow Field in a Direct Diesel Engine Using a Single Cylinder Visualization Engine)

  • This paper studies the effects of the swirl for the variation of intake port configuration that is key parameters in the flow field of direct injection diesel engines. In-cylinder flow characteristics is known to have significant effects on air-fuel mixing, combustion, and emissions. To investigate the effects of the swirl flow, various rpm(250, 500, 750) and two different intake port were used. And to evaluate the swirl motion in the flow field visualization engine, steady state flow test was conducted. Helical port intake port and SCV(Swirl Control Valve) were selected as the design parameters to increase the swirl flow and parametric study was performed. In the case of non-SCV, intake flow rate and non-dimensional swirl ratio were higher than those of SCV for the swirl head type. So, we could strengthen the swirl in the flow field with the swirl head type and don't using SCV. From the results of steady state flow test, non-swirl head type has the most good advantage for intake flow rate, and also the flow rate could be increased by using the SCV slightly. The effects of the type of engine head on intake air flow capability are dominant with respect to the existence of the SCV. We could measure the qualitative grade of swirl by capturing the scattering signal of microballoon from ICCD camera in the visualization diesel engine.

CFD 기반 가스터빈 엔진 모사 코드 개발 (Development of Gas Turbine Engine Simulation Program Based on CFD)

  • 가스터빈 엔진을 모사하기 위한 프로그램을 2차원 CFD 코드를 기반으로 개발 하였다. 압축기와 터빈은 k-$\omega$ SST 난류 모델의 2차원 NS(Navier Stokes) 코드를 이용하였고, 연소기는 lumped method 화학 평형 코드를 바탕으로 완전 혼합 상태에서 연소효율 100%로 가정된 케로신 공기 반응의 생성물 중 대표적인 10종류를 몰분율을 계산, 당량비에 따른 연소기 온도를 예측하였다. 압축기, 터빈에서 로터의 회전에 의한 비정상 유동 현상은 mixing-plane 기법을 이용한 경계면 처리로 그 효과를 나타내었고, 압축기는 연소기로 온도 압력을 주고, 연소기는 터빈으로 온도와 질유량을 전달하나 압력의 변화가 없는 것으로 가정하였다. 이를 바탕으로 아음속 조건에서의 압축기 입구 조건과 터빈 출구 조건, 회전수, 연소기의 당량비를 주는 것만으로 엔진의 성능이 계산 될 수 있는 통합 코드를 구성하였다.

Development of a drift-flux model based core thermal-hydraulics code for efficient high-fidelity multiphysics calculation

  • The methods and performance of a pin-level nuclear reactor core thermal-hydraulics (T/H) code ESCOT employing the drift-flux model are presented. This code aims at providing an accurate yet fast core thermal-hydraulics solution capability to high-fidelity multiphysics core analysis systems targeting massively parallel computing platforms. The four equation drift-flux model is adopted for two-phase calculations, and numerical solutions are obtained by applying the Finite Volume Method (FVM) and the Semi-Implicit Method for Pressure-Linked Equation (SIMPLE)-like algorithm in a staggered grid system. Constitutive models involving turbulent mixing, pressure drop, and vapor generation are employed to simulate key phenomena in subchannel-scale analyses. ESCOT is parallelized by a domain decomposition scheme that involves both radial and axial decomposition to enable highly parallelized execution. The ESCOT solutions are validated through the applications to various experiments which include CNEN $4{\times}4$, Weiss et al. two assemblies, PNNL $2{\times}6$, RPI $2{\times}2$ air-water, and PSBT covering single/two-phase and unheated/heated conditions. The parameters of interest for validation include various flow characteristics such as turbulent mixing, spacer grid pressure drop, cross-flow, reverse flow, buoyancy effect, void drift, and bubble generation. For all the validation tests, ESCOT shows good agreements with measured data in the extent comparable to those of other subchannel-scale codes: COBRA-TF, MATRA and/or CUPID. The execution performance is examined with a mini-sized whole core consisting of 89 fuel assemblies and for an OPR1000 core. It turns out that it is about 1.5 times faster than a subchannel code based on the two-fluid three field model and the axial domain decomposition scheme works as well as the radial one yielding a steady-state solution for the OPR1000 core within 30 s with 104 processors.

급속열분해를 통하여 생산된 바이오오일 액적의 증발 특성에 관한 수치해석적 연구 (Numerical Study on the Evaporation Characteristics of Biocrude-oil Produced by Fast Pyrolysis)

  • 바이오매스는 최근 화석연료의 고갈 및 지구온난화 등의 문제에 대응하기 위한 신재생에너지원으로 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 바이오오일은 폐목재, 농업 및 임업 부산물 등의 바이오매스로부터 급속열분해 과정을 통하여 생산되는 액체연료이다. 바이오오일은 일반적인 석유 계통의 연료에 비하여 점도가 매우 높고 고체상의 불순물을 포함하고 있어 버너 적용시 스프레이 분무 특성이 저하된다. 또한, 바이오오일은 셀룰로오스, 헤미셀룰로오스, 리그닌으로부터 유래되는 수백 종류의 화학종들로 이루어져 있어 일반적인 액체연료와는 액적의 증발 특성이 뚜렷하게 구분된다. 본 연구에서는, 바이오오일의 구성 성분을 아세트산, 레보글루코산, 페놀, 수분으로 단순화하여 액적의 증발 특성에 관한 수치해석적 연구를 수행하였다. 다양한 주위공기 온도, 액적의 초기 지름, 에탄올 혼합 비율에 대하여 액적의 증발 특성을 비교하였다. 주위공기 온도가 높아질수록 바이오오일 액적의 증발 시간은 짧아졌으며, 특히 낮은 온도 범위에서는 증발 시간이 공기온도에 매우 민감하였다. 또한 액적의 지름이 감소할수록, 에탄올 혼합 비율이 증가할수록 증발 시간이 단축됨을 알 수 있었다.

Pool Combustion of Iso-Propanol Fuel including IPA and PCBs in different Type Vessels

  • On the refutation demanded for a control of various toxic substances. PCBs(poly chlorinated biphenyl) has a fatal poisonous matter in the ecosystem and the environmental pollution as it Is a kind of stable chemical substance. Especially, the gross Product of PCBs is estimated at about one million tonnage all over the world. However it is kept on storing in untreated state, then has a deterioration by the Prolonged storage and a risk of overflowing. Therefore, this research examined the fundamental characteristics of combustion and emission for the target of using the IPA (iso-propyl alcohol) solution as a part of PCBs control. IPA was filled to three kinds of Vessel, i.e. Vessel I, II, and III, and then was investigated as follows combustion shape, flame temperature. mass burning velocity, and PM(Particulate matter). A radial thermometer and a C-A thermocouple measured the flame temperature, and the optical extinction method by using He-Ne laser and the filter weight method used in the PM measurement. As a result, with an increasing of L/S ratio, the flame length become shorter and the burning velocity is more rapid, but the particulate matters is higher. It is supposed that the air flow rate is high on Vessel. and then the combustion is Promoted in the surface area of the upstream zone. The future works plan to investigate the characteristics with an using of the mixing of IPA and PCBs

건타입 버너의 수소 연소에 관한 연구 (Study of Hydrogen Combustion with n Gun-type Burner)

  • A gun-type burne. fur a LPG(Liquified Petroleum Gas) boiler was utilized for hydrogen combustion. The study was performed to obtain fundamental data prior to the design of a very low NO$\_$x/, hydrogen-fueled burner. First, numerical simulations were performed to predict mixing characteristics between air and fuel flows, and temperature distributions, etc. Experimental study was then performed to find out flame lengths, temperature distributions, and NO$\_$x/ concentrations. The results showed that a gun-type burner for a LPG boiler can be successfully used for hydrogen combustion without any major retrofitting. The hydrogen flame was very stable and 75 ppm of NO$\_$x/ in average was observed for the conditions considered in this study. Hydrogen combustion could be therefore a solution to avoid the problem of green-house gas(CO$_2$) if hydrogen becomes cost-effective.

  • Comparisons of measured turbulence properties in the unburned gas region of turbulent premixed flame stabilized by pilot flame, in cases of combusting and non-combusting flow conditions, are presented. Methane-air premixed jet at fuel equivalence ratio of 0.6 and 1.0 and Reynolds number of 7,000 was diagnosed using two-color laser velocimeter to obtain turbulence statistics. Same set of measurements was repeated at 21 locations within the unburned gas region of both combusting and non-combusting conditions. Velocity data were analyzed to evaluate the spatial distribution of turbulence properties including Reynolds stress, probability densities, joint probability densities and auto correlations. Contrary to assumptions of current theoretical models, significant influence of flame was observed in every property that was studied in the present investigation. The effective viscosity increased ten-fold when flame was on from cold flow values. The effect of mixing on joint probability as well as in turbulence intensity was suppressed by the flame. The measurements suggest that common assumptions of premixed flame model may result in sizable error in prediction of flame length and temperature distribution in near-field.

고속충돌노즐을 이용한 분류층 가스화기내의 유동특성에 관한 연구 (Study on flow characteristics in entrained flow gasifier with high speed impinging jet)

  • An entrained flow gasifier simulating the cold mode was tested to estimate its performance for coal gasification and flow characteristics with a developed high speed impinging jet nozzle. The burner was designed for high temperature and high pressure(HTHP) conditions, especially for IGCC(Integrated Coal Gasification Combined Cycle). In order to get proper size of droplets for high viscous liquid such as coal slurry, atomization was achieved by impacting slurry with high speed (over 150m/sec) secondary gas (oxygen/or air)/ Formed water droplets were ranged between 100.mu.m to 20.mu.m in their sizes. The flow characteristics in the gasifier was well understood in mixing between fuel and oxidizer. Both external and internal recirculation zones were closely investigated through experimentation with visualization and numerical solutions from FLUENT CODE.
