The effects of zeolite-type catalysts addition on the thermal decomposition of the PP resin have been studied in a thermal analyzer, a Pyrolyser GC-mass, and a small batch reactor. The zeolite type catalysts tested were natural zeolite, used FCC catalyst, and ZSM-5. As the results of TGA experiments, the pyrolysis starting temperature for PP varied in the range of $330{\sim}360^{\circ}C$ according to the heating rate. Addition of the zeolite type catalysts in the PP resin increased the pyrolysis rate in the order of used FCC catalyst> natural zeolite> ZSM-5 > PP resin. Adding the used FCC catalyst in the PP reduced most effectively the pyrolysis finishing temperature. In the PY-G.C. mass experiments, addition of zeolite type catalysts decreased the molecular weight of pyrolyzed product. In the batch system experiments, the mixing of used FCC catalyst enhanced best the initial yield of fuel oil, but the final yield of fuel oil was 2% higher in the case of mixing of natural zeolite. Also in the carbon number analysis, used FCC catalyst was the most useful one in this experiments for fuel oil.

The paper provides a review on bio-oil production technology from biomass by using fast pyrolysis to use heating fuel, power fuel and transport fuel. One of the most promising methods for a small scale conversion of biomass into liquid fuels is fast pyrolysis. In fast pyrolysis, bio-oil is produced by rapidly heating biomass to intermediate temperature ($450{\sim}600^{\circ}C$) in the absence of any external oxygen followed by rapid quenching of the resulting vapor. Bio-oil can be produced in weight yield maximum 75 wt% of the original dry biomass and bio-oils typically contain 60-75% of the initial energy of the biomass. In this study, it is described focusing on the characterization of feedstock, production principle of bio-oil, bio-oil's property and it's application sector.

In a previous report, the properties of vegetable oils as diesel fuel substitutes were investigated and the basic load performance of a diesel engine was examined using vegetable oil. The results show that despite of the long term chain hydrocarbon structure and large droplet size due to high viscosity, vegetable oils have good basic performance and exhaust emissions, however they cause serious problems as carbon deposit buildup, they have poor durability, and also poor thermal efficiency. In this paper, the startability and engine durability with long term operation was tested by physical methods for reducing viscosity when vegetable oil was used as compared against diesel fuel. The results obtained in this investigation may be stated as follows; (1) There is no problem in startability when vegetable oil was used as diesel fuel substitutes as far as fuel temperature is higher than 30.deg. C (2) The carbon deposits were most extensive at lower loads and lower engine speeds, and deposit buildup more heavily on the cooler parts of the combustion chamber wall. (3) Blends with 25% diesel fuel and 20v-% ethanol are effective in reducing the carbon deposit buildups. (4) Significant improvement in carbon deposit and piston ring stick can be obtained by heating fuel(200.deg.).
The permeation characteristics and reclamation efficiency of waste lubricating oil were studied as a function of the types of ceramic composite membranes and the membrane separation process variables. The oil permeability of the TiO2 composite membrane(pore size 0.015 $\mu\textrm{m}$) was directly proportional to the crossflow velocity(0.22∼0.9 m/s) and temperature(150$^{\circ}C$∼200$^{\circ}C$). In the batch concentration process, as the concentration factor increased, both the permeability and the ash content of the permeate decreased. The average ash contents of the total permeate through the A6 alumina membrane(average pore size 0.8$\mu\textrm{m}$), Z1/A6 and Z1/A4(pore size 0.23$\mu\textrm{m}$)/A7(pore size 6$\mu\textrm{m}$) zirconia composite membrances(average pore size 0.07$\mu\textrm{m}$) were about 0.063 wt%, 0.045wt% and 0.08wt% in the region of 1∼2 concentration factor, respectively. The ash content of the mixed permeate through the A6 alumina and zirconia composite membrane was about 0.06 wt% and it can be also reduced to 0.06 wt% in the Z1/A6 membrane and below 0.003 wt% in the TiO2/Z1/A6 membrane. It was concluded that the treated oil obtained from the multi-step membrane separation process could be used as reclaimed lubricating oil as well as reclained fuel oil.
Because the exhaust emissions from automobiles are increased, our environment is faced with very serious problems related to the air pollution in these days. In particular, the exhaust emissions of diesel engine are recognized main cause which influenced environment strong. Lots of researcher have been attempted to develop various alternative fuel on purpose to reduce these harmful emissions. In this study, the potential possibility of esterfied rice bran oil which is a kind of biodiesel fuel was investigated as an alternative fuel for diesel engine. And, we tried to analysis not only total hydrocarbon but hydrocarbon components from $C_1$ to $C_6$ in exhaust gas using gas chromatography to seek the reason for remarkable reduction of exhaust emission. Individual hydrocarbon$(C_1\simC_6)$ as well as total hydrocarbon of biodiesel fuel is reduced remarkably than that of diesel fuel in this experiment.
An experimental study has been carried on single fuel droplets of water-in-light oil emulsions in an electric furnace to elucidate the dominant factor for the occurrence of micro-explosions. The tests were carried out by changing the following four parameters; the surfactant, the ratio of water to light oil, ambient temperature in electric furnace, and four kinds of fuels having different viscosity(light-oil, kerosene, iso-octane, bunker fuel). The result shows that micro-explosion phenomena is dominated without surfactant and below 30% of water content. Explosion-time is affected by ambient temperature and viscosity of used fuel.

This paper addresses some concerns faced by the shipping industry nowadays. Initially, the environmental issues were resolved and stricter regulations are now being implemented with regards to the exhaust gas, specifically nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur oxides (SOx), emitted from ships. Secondly, with the increasing and unstable cost of fuel oils in the world market, it has become almost a necessity to explore on a new alternative fuel. Hence, this study was conducted. An experiment was carried-out on a fishing survey vessel with the main engine (M/E) and generator engine (G/E) operated on expensive marine gas oil (MGO). During the experiment, two pre-refinery systems were installed and different fuel oil samples were employed for the M/E and the G/E. Furthermore, the NOx emission and soot concentration were monitored and verified. The results confirmed the compatibility of some fuel oil types to the engines and meeting the emission standards. MDO, MF15 and Bunker A can be used in place of MGO for the engines(M/E, G/E).
The characteristics of combustion and emissions in multi-staged oil burner have been experimentally studied for the various range of equivalence ratios, drop sizes and fuel formulations. Malvern system was used to measure droplet size of fuel. Light fuel oil and light fuel oil doped with pyridine($C_5H _5N$) were used to investigate the effects on fuel NOx emission. The emissions of NO and CO in exhaust gas and the flame temperatures were measured by the gas analyzer and thennocouples. NOx emissions were increased by increasing the excess air ratio (range:$lambda=1.1-1.4$) or decreasing the SMD of droplet in single-staged burner. In comparison with the single-staged burner, the emission of NOx in multi-staged burner was reduced by 50% but CO emission was slightly increased. It is found that multi-staged burner has a good capability in reducing thermal NOx resulting from the distributed heat release rate and lower flame temperature in fuel-rich and fuel-lean combustion zone. Moreover, the fuel NOx emission of the multi-staged burner is lower than that of single-staged burner, because multi-staged burner has fuel rich zone where fuel N is converted to $N_2$ more than NO. In 3-staged burner, the percentage of each stage combustion air have strong influence on emission characteristics. It is also found that NOx emission can be reduced by decreasing inner and outer air percentage or increasing middle air flow rate and CO emission is vice versa.
The kinetic analysis was carried out for commercial rubbers such as NR, IR, BR, SBR 1500, and SBR 1700. Kinetic analysis for the commercial rubbers was performed using the thermogravimetric method, with which the activation energies of NR obtained by Kissinger, Friedman, and Ozawa's method were 195.0, 198.3 and 186.3kJ/mol, whereas that of SBR 1500 were 246.4, 247.5 and 254.8kJ/mol, respectively. It was shown that the yield of pyrolytic oil was generally increased with final temperature increasing, yet slightly decreased or increased over $700^{\circ}C$. Considering the effect of heating rate, it was found that the yield of pyrolytic oil was not consistent for each sample. The number average molecular weight of SBR 1500 was in the range of 740~2486. The calorific value of SBR 1500 was 39~40kJ/g, which were made comparative study of the conventional fuel such as kerosene, diesel, light fuel, and heavy fuel. Therefore it was essential that the selection of the suitable kinetic model and the mathematical solution because of the difference in parameters obtained from each method. It was proposed that the range of $600~700^{\circ}C$ in final temperature and high heating rate due to short run time. It was suggested that the pyrolytic oil be available to use to the fuel.
Transesterification of used frying oil was investigated to produce the bio-diesel oil. Experimental conditions included molar ratio of used frying oil to alcohol (1:3, 1:5 and 1:7), concentration of catalyst (0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 wt.%), ippe of catalyst(sodium melhoxide, NaOH and KOH), reaction temperature (30, 45 and $60^{\circ}C$), and types of alcohol(methanol, ethanol and butanol). The conversion of used frying oil increased with the alcohol mixing ratio and with the reaction temperature. The effect of the type of catalysts on conversion was not significant. The highest conversion was obtained when methanol was used as alcohol. Viscosity was a little higher with the ester product over grade #2 diesel oil. But the physical properties improved significantly with transesterification, resulting in similar fuel properties with those obtained for grade #2 diesel fuel.
