Social Impact Assessment for Nano Technology Using a System Dynamics (시스템 다이내믹스를 활용한 나노기술의 사회영향평가)

  • The study aims at quantifying the effect of nano technology in the fields of economics and social aspects by using the methodology of system dynamics. A case study which using selenium oxide nanoparticles as additive agent in order to enhance fuel efficiency was selected as an example of nano technology in economic and societal benefits. Additionally, models for exhaust gas from combustion of fuel (diesel) and related issues are developed to evaluate real-time assessment of the effect of nano technology. It was found that the selenium oxide nanoparticles increase fuel efficiency, and it also affects on the amount of exhaust gas and the respiratory disease related issues. The results of this study which give quantitative value for the effect of nano technology can be used as objective references in development of national policy.

A Study on the Improvement of Strength in NiO-YSZ Porous Anode Material for Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC용 다공성 NiO-YSZ 음극소재의 강도향상에 관한 연구)

  • We controlled the amount of Y$_2$O$_3$additives, 8 mol% and 10 mol%, and the type of carbon pore former, activated carbon and carbon black, to improve the strength of porous NiO-YSZ anode materials for solid oxide fuel ceil. The 3-point flexural strength, porosity and electrical conductivity were evaluated. As a result, the strength of anode materials with the addition of carbon black was markedly improved. The strength of NiO-10 mol%YSZ sintered at relatively higher temperature was higher than that of NiO-8 mol%YSZ materials. The electrical conductivity of NiO-10 mol%YSZ with carbon black was evaluated as much as 10$^2$∼10$^3$S/cm at 700$^{\circ}C$∼1000$^{\circ}C$ in reducing atmosphere.

  • Optimization of the fabrication process of NiO-yttrium doped barium zirconate (BZY) composite anode substrates using tape-casting for high performance thin-film protonic ceramic fuel cells (PCFCs) is investigated. The anode substrate is composed of a tens of microns-thick anode functional layer laminated over a porous anode substrate. The macro-pore structure of the anode support is induced by micron-scale polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) pore formers. Thermal gravity analysis (TGA) and a dilatometer are used to determine the polymeric additive burn-out and sintering temperatures. Crystallinity and microstructure of the tape-cast NiO-BZY anode are analyzed after the sintering.

Increasing of Thermal Conductivity from Mixing of Additive on a Domestic Compacted Bentonite Buffer (국산 압축벤토나이트 완충재의 첨가제 혼합을 통한 열전도도 향상)

  • The Geyoungju Ca-bentonite with dry density of 1.6 g/$cm^3$ has been considered as a standard buffer material for the disposal of high level waste in KAERI disposal system design. But it had relatively lower thermal conductivity compared with other surrounding materials, that was one of key parameters to limit the increase of the disposal density in the disposal system. In this study, various additives were selected and mixed with the Ca-bentonite in different mixing methods in order to increase the thermal conductivity from 0.8 W/mK to 1.0 W/mK. As an additive, CNT (Cabon Nano Tube), graphite, alumina, CuO, and $Fe_2O_3$ were selected, which are chemically stable and have good thermal conductivity. As mixing methods, dry hand-mixer mixing, wet milling and dry ball mill mixing were applied for the mixing. Above all, the ball mill mixing was proved to be most effective since the produced mixture was most homogeneous and showed higher increase in the thermal conductivity. From this study, it was confirmed that the thermal conductivity for the Geyoungju Ca-bentonite could be improved by adding small amount of highly thermal conductive material to 1.0 W/mk. In conclusion, it was believed that the experimental results will be valuable in the disposal system design if the additive effects on the swelling and permeability on the compact bentonite are also approved in further studies.

Development of Multi Channel Gas Leakage Detector for Large Facility (대규모 시설을 위한 다채널 가스 누설 경보기 개발)

  • As a clean fuel, LNG or LPG is widely used in large restaurants or plants instead of coal. These fuels are easy to use and cheap. However, they are inflammable very much and easily exploded at the worst. So there are many laws and regulations legislated for the handling and usage of the gas facilities. Nevertheless, very harsh explosions occurred in several domestic or foreign places. In this paper a gas detection and alarm system was developed for large facilities. A new concept for connecting many gas detectors was proposed and based upon that a system including hardware and software have been developed and tested. Although up to 16 gas detectors apart 1 km from main controller can be connected currently, this system can be easily expanded for more detectors because each gas detector receiver communicates with main controller using industrial standard RS-485 multi drop technique. Furthermore several additive functions was included for the installation and maintenance convenience.

Influence analysis of the guidance commands on attitude stability of a launch vehicle (회전운동을 고려하지 않고 유도된 유도지령이 발사체의 자세안정성에 미치는 영향분석)

  • The conventional closed-loop guidance commands are generated from a simplified point mass model for real time operations. In real situations, the generated guidance commands are applied to the original rigid body. This can cause attitude instability of the vehicle. In this paper, in order to solve the attitude instability problem in the guidance system sense, the influence of the guidance commands on a launch vehicle attitude is derived quantitatively. The checking method of the attitude stability conditions that uses Liapunov theorem is proposed, and the attitude stabilizing method is also proposed. The attitude stability is accomplished by subtracting the influence of the guidance commands that destabilize the vehicle attitude. The closed-loop guidance commands generated from the simplified point mass model may destabilize the vehicle attitude, which is verified through simulations. In this case, the vehicle attitude can be always stabilized with the proposed attitude stabilizing method without additive fuel consumption.

  • 우리나라 대기환경기준이 점차 강화되고 있고, 국민의 욕구수준 또한 선진국 수준으로 강화될 계획으로 있어 이에 따른 대기오염 방지시설의 설치 또는 보완이 요구되고 있다 특히, 배기가스 중 황산화물 및 질소산화물 배출농도 강화로 울산화력발전소에서는 최신의 배연탈황ㆍ탈질설비를 가동중에 있으나 황산 Mist가 주요원인으로 추정되는 Plume Opacity가 발생되어 오염물질 배출농도는 법적규제기준 이내로 배출되더라도 민원이 발생되고 있다. 이에 대한 대책으로 현장에 적합한 연료첨가제 주입으로 Plume Opacity 발생원인을 제거함과 동시에 배연탈황설비에서 발생된 저온부식 현상을 개선하고, 보일러 내 고온부식 등 연소장애 현상 개선을 통한 열효율 향상 방안에 대해 연구하였다.   • The behavior of fox adsorption and desorption of the NOx storage catalyst supported on Ba additive were studied by the TPA/TPD experiments and reactivity tests. Applying the transient responses and NOx TPA/TPD test by CLD were effective methods to analyze the characteristics of the NOx storage catalyst. NOx variation of the NOx storage catalyst in the lean air/fuel conditions according to temperature was dominated by NOx adsorption and desorption rather than catalytic reduction. The presence of reductants in the lean mixture promoted the NOx desorption at the $500^{\circ}C$ higher temperature. The temperatures for maximum NOx conversion with CH4 and $C_3H_6$ as a rich spike reductant appear around $500^{\circ}C\;and\; 400^{\circ}C$ respectively.

  • Gas diffusion and electrolyte penetration in wetproofed gas diffusion electrodes were studied using layers of PTFE- bonded carbon. Minor variations in fabrication and testing procedures resulted in very large variations in catalyst layer wetting characteristics and permiability for reaction gas. By controlling the pore size of gas diffusion electrode carefully by varing the PTFE contents, baking temperature, baking time and ammonium bicarbonate as additive, the primary pore was decreased and the secondary pore was increased and so more reaction gas through the primary pore could be reacted at catalyst agglomertes in the secondary pore. And the cathode current density was increased to more than 400mA.$\textrm{cm}^2$ and Tafel slope value was decreased to lower than 110mA/decade.

  • Until recently performance requirements for automatic transmission fluids have continued to change to reflect the design changes of automatic transmission. The major purpose for these design changes is to improve the fuel economy and easy driving. To meet recent performance requirements fur automatic transmission the needs for special base oils Bike API Group III and IV base oils become larger. In this paper to evaluate the effects of base oils on performance of automatic transmission fluids formulated with API Group I,II,III and IV and Dexron III and Hereon Type additive package, Brookfield viscosity, oxidation test, SAE No.2 friction test and seal compatibility test were examined. From the test we knew that the use of Croup III and IV base oils in ATF has several benefits in low temperature viscosity, oxidation stability and SAE No.2 friction characteristics.
