In the frontal collision the spot welded hat-shaped section side member is the fundamental structure for automobiles and has a great amount of absorbing capacity. For this reason LS-DYNA3D has been used for analyzing impact collapse characteristics on hat shaped section member with respect to the valuables; thickness, width ratio and spot weld potch on impact load(7.19m/sec, 1034J). By comparing the results from simulation and the experimental results, the utilization of simulation has been certified.

This paper develops a finite element model for studying the occupant behavior and injury cofficients of a large-sized cab-over type truck. Since it does not have a room to absorb collision energy and deformation in front of the passenger compartment the deformation is directly transmitted to the passenger compartment. Moreover, since its steering column is attached on the frame, severe deformation of the frame directly affects on the steering wheel's movement. Therefore, if the occupant behavior and injury coefficients analysis is performed using a finite element model developed based on a sled test, it is very difficult to expect acquiring satisfactory results. Thus, the finite element model developing in this paper is based on the frontal crash test in order to overcome the inherent problems of the sled test based model commonly used in the passenger car. The occupant behavior and injury coefficients analysis is performed using PAM-CRASH installed in super-computer SP2. In order to validate the reliability of the developed finite element model, a frontal crash test is carried out according to a test method used fur developing truck occupant's secondary safety system in european community and japan. That is, test vehicle's collision direction is vertical to the rigid barrier and collision velocity is 45kph. Thus, measured vehicle pulses at the lower parts of the left and right B-pilla., dummy chest and head deceleration profiles, HIC(head injury criterial) and CA(chest acceleration) values, and dummy behavior from the frontal crash test are compared to the analysis results to validate reliability of the developed model.

Recently, various research studies on frontal collision and rear-ender which occur more frequently compared to others are underway as the public interest on them is growing. This study analyzes scientifically the relationship between effective impact speed and injury incidence for vehicle crash accident reconstruction and presents a relevant model formula. Because real vehicle experiments have certain limitations such as possible injuries, this study efforts to collect and analyze as many materials as possible to substitute real vehicle experiments, including data from various collision tests and human experiments. As a result, this study present a threshold in which head-on collisions and rear impacts do not cause injuries under 7 km/h of effective impact speed, and suggests a model formula showing that injury extent is linearly proportional to effective impact speed through collision speed and amount of plastic deformation. In conclusion, a model formula for estimating effective impact speed and injury incidence newly proposed in this study is expected to be used as a minimum standard of judgment in disputes on the injury extent of passenger in head-on collisions and rear impacts. Furthermore its availability in terms of technological analysis in legal arguments is expected to be very high if this study will be enhanced by referring to scientific analyses of various real accidents so as to apply it in various types of collision accidents.

Objective : The latest version of the Leksell Gamma Knife IconTM allows for mask- and frame-based fixation. Although mask fixation provides fractionated treatment and immobilization using a noninvasive method, it is not free from collision. The authors investigated the collision problem with a modified mask fixation method. Methods : This study presents a case of two meningiomas in the frontal area, where a collision occurs in the occipital area. A modified mask fixation method was introduced to avoid the collision : first, the edges of the head cushion were cut off and polystyrene beads with a diameter of approximately 5 cm were removed. Next, the head cushion was sealed using a stapler. Finally, the head cushion was flattened in the adapter. We compared the shot coordinates, 3-dimensional (3D) error, clearance distance, and vertical depth of the head cushion between the initial and modified mask fixations. Results : When comparing the initial and modified mask fixations, the difference in the shot coordinates was +10.5 mm along the y-axis, the difference in the 3D error was approximately 18 mm, and the difference in clearance was -10.2 mm. The head cushion was approximately 8 mm deeper in the modified mask fixation. Conclusion : Based on these findings, we recommend a modified mask fixation method for gamma knife radiosurgery using ICON with a collision.

The type of pedestrian accident can be characterized by vehicular frontal shape and the height of pedestrian. The trajectory of pedestrian after collision by passenger car is different from that by bus due to vehicular frontal shape. The frontal shape of SUV vehicles is dissimilar to passenger car and bus. So, the trajectory and throw distance of pedestrian by SUV vehicles is not the same of passenger car and bus. In this paper, a series of pedestrian kinetic simulation were conducted to inspect the difference in throw distance between SUV vehicle and passenger car and bus by PC-CRASH that is the program for kinetic analysis of articulated body. From the results, if the height of pedestrian is taller than 1.70m, there is no difference in throw distance between SUV vehicle and passenger car, but if the height of pedestrian is about 1.55m throw distance of SUV vehicle is about 4m longer than that of passenger car at each impact speed. The throw distance of pedestrian by Bus is shorter than that of passenger car and SUV at each impact speed.
This research investigates injury values and vehicle deformation for vehicle frontal crash compatibility. To investigate compatibility in an individual case, it is possible to impact two vehicles and evaluate the injury values and deformations in both vehicles. In this study, four tests were conducted to evaluate compatibility. A large and mini vehicle were subjected to a frontal car-to-car crash test at a speed of 48.3 km/h with an offset of 40%. An inclination car-to-car crash test using the large and small vehicle were conducted at 30 km/h at a $30^{\circ}$ angle. The results of the 48.3 km/h, car-to-car frontal crash revealed extremely high injury values on the chest and upper leg of the Hybrid III 50% driver dummy with seatbelt in the mini vehicle compared to the large vehicle. For the 30 km/h, car-to-car inclination crash, however, injury values in the small vehicle were 1.5 times higher compared to the large vehicle.
As the popularization of autonomous vehicles is anticipated, it is expected that the variety of passenger postures will diversify. However, the current vehicle safety system is expected to be inadequate for accommodating these diverse passenger postures, particularly in reclined positions where severe injuries have been reported in frontal collisions. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the biomechanical responses and tolerances of occupants in reclined postures. In this study, the behavior and injuries of a Hybrid-III dummy model in a reclined position are analyzed through frontal collision sled simulations equipped with the semi-rigid seat provided by the previous study, three-point safety belt with pretensioner and load limiter, and airbag models. The results are evaluated by comparing thouse reponses with post-mortem human surrogate (PMHS) data, and the findings are expected to be applicable to the basic design of a new restraint system suitable for various postures in autonomous vehicles.
The aim of this paper is to contribute to the efficient design of traffic light poles involved in vehicle frontal collisions by developing a computer-based, finite-element model capable of capturing the impact characteristics. This is achieved by using the available non-linear dynamic analysis software "LS-DYNA3D", which can accurately predict the dynamic response of both the vehicle and the traffic light pole. The fiber reinforced polymer(FRP) as a new pole's material is proposed in this paper to increase energy absorption capabilities in the case of a traffic pole involved in a vehicle head-on collision. Numerical analyses are conducted to evaluate the effects of key parameters on the response of the pole embedded in soil when impacted by vehicles, including: soil type(clay and sand) and pole material type(FRP and steel). It is demonstrated from the numerical analysis that the FRP pole-soil system has favorable advantages over steel poles, where the FRP pole absorbed vehicle impact energy in a smoother behavior, which leads to smoother acceleration pulse and less deformation of the vehicle than those encountered with steel poles. Also, it was observed that clayey soil brings a slightly more resistance than sandy soil which helps reducing pole movement at ground level. Finally, FRP pole system provides more energy absorbing leading to protection during minor impacts and under service loading, and remain flexible enough to avoid influencing vehicle occupants, thus reducing fatalities and injuries resulting from the crash.
In order to increase our understanding of the injury mechanism in the child occupant, three year old child model was developed using commercial dynamic package DADS. Total 14 segments and 12 joints were used to compose a model in three points belted condition with booster seat. HYGE sled test case was simulated to validate the developed model. Based on the comparison of the model and published test results, the developed model appears to be a resonable representation of the three year old dummy.

This paper presents the dynamic characteristics of MR impact damper for vehicle collision system. Various types of mechanism have been proposed for reduce transmitted force to vehicle chassis and finally protect occupants from injury. In the case of frontal collision, the bumper make main role of isolation material for collision attenuation. In this study, proposed bumper system composed of MR impact damper and structures. The MR impact damper is to adopted MR fluid which has reversible properties with applied magnetic field. MR fluid operates under flow mode with Bingham flow and bellows is used for generation of fluid flow. Mathematical model of MR impact damper incorporated with MR fluid is established. Field dependent damping force is investigated with time and frequency domain. The MR impact damper is then incorporated with vehicle crash system. The governing equation of motion of vehicle model is formulated considering occupant model. Dynamic characteristics of vehicle collision system investigated with computer simulation.
