  • This paper deals with the numerical method of calculating the frequency-dependent impedances of grounding electrodes. The proposed electromagnetic field approach is based on the solutions to Maxwell's equations obtained from the method of moment in the frequency domain. In order to evaluate the quality of the proposed simulation method, the frequency-dependent impedances of horizontally-buried ground electrodes were presented. The program for calculating the current distributions and impedances of grounding electrodes was implemented in MATLAB. The grounding impedances of two 10m and 50m long horizontal ground electrodes were measured and simulated in the frequency range from 100Hz to 10MHz for easy analysis and comparison. Also the simulated results were compared with those calculated from a sophisticated computer program CDEGS (HIFREQ module). As a result, the resultant results of frequency-dependent impedances obtained by using the numerical simulation method proposed in this work are in good agreement with experimental data. The validity of the approach techniques was confirmed.

  • In this paper, we modeled digital M/W transmission channel by frequency non-selective fading channel and analyzed the power spectrum magnitude of digital M/W transmission systems adopting OFDM modulation scheme through simulation. From the simulation results, it was found that deep does not appear in the specified fixed bandwidth under the AWGN environment. Also, lower power spectrum magnitude was shown in frequency non-selective fading channel than that in AWGN channel. Futhermore, the power spectrum magnitude value became more lowered when carrier frequency and vehicle speed became higher.

  • This paper presents a novel method for power system harmonic estimation based on the Park transform. The proposed method firstly extends the signal to a group of three-phase signals in a-b-c coordinate. Then, a linear fitting based method is adopted to estimate the fundamental frequency. Afterwards, the Park transform is utilized to convert the three-phase signals from a-b-c coordinate to d-q-0 coordinate. Finally, the amplitude and phase of a harmonic component of interest can be calculated using the d-axis and q-axis components obtained. Simulation studies have been conducted using matrix laboratory (MATLAB) and power system computer aided design/electromagnetic transients including direct current (PSCAD/EMTDC). Simulation studies in MATLAB have considered three scenarios, i.e., no-frequency-deviation scenario, frequency-deviation scenario and the scenario in the presence of inter-harminics. The results have demonstrated that the proposed method achieves very high accuracy in frequency, phase and amplitude estimation under noisy conditions, and suffers little influence of the inter-harmonics. Moreover, comparison studies have proved that the proposed method is superior to FFT and Interpolated FFT with the Hanning Window (IpFFTHW). Finally, a popular case in PSCAD/EMTDC has been employed to further verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Recently, as Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and self-driving system become influential in the ground transportation system, automotive radar systems have been actively studied among the various radar systems to implement the vehicle collision detection system and distance measurement system between vehicles. Most of the automotive radars are Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar type which can calculate distance and velocity of target by estimating the frequency difference between the transmitted signal and received signal. Therefore, accurate frequency estimation is very important in the FMCW radar system. For this reason, to improve the measurement accuracy of the FMCW radar, Reverse Directional FRI (RD-FRI) Super-Resolution technique which has high frequency estimation accuracy is applied to the FMCW radar system. The feasibility of the proposed technique is evaluated with simulation results and compared with FFT and conventional Super-Resolution techniques. The simulation results show that the proposed technique estimates the frequency with high accuracy and the distance with centimeter accuracy.

  • At present, one of two LCC-HVDC systems is responsible for controlling the grid frequency of the Jeju Island Power System (JIPS). The grid voltage is regulated by using STATCOMs. However, these two objectives can be achieved in one device that is called by a modular multilevel converter-high voltage direct current (MMC-HVDC) system. Therefore, this paper proposes frequency and voltage control strategies for the JIPS based on a MMC-HVDC system. In this case, the ancillary frequency and voltage controllers are implemented into the MMC-HVDC system. The modelling of the JIPS is done based on the parameters and measured data from the real JIPS. The simulation results obtained from the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation program are confirmed by comparing them to measured data from the real JIPS. Then, the effect of the MMC-HVDC system on the JIPS will be tested in many cases of operation when the JIPS operates with and without STATCOMs. The objective is to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.

  • In this paper, we developed a single frequency-based RRAIM to monitor integrity of the UAM landing vertically in urban area with only low-cost single-frequency GPS receiver. Conventional dual-frequency RRAIM eliminates ionospheric delay through a combination of frequencies. In this study, ionospheric delay was directly modeled. Drift error of residual ionospheric delay is modeled using the previously studied result on ionospheric rates of change. To verify the performance of the proposed RRAIM algorithm, a simulation of vertical landing UAM in urban area was conducted. It was assumed that the protection level at the initial position was calculated through SBAS correction data. During vertical landing, integrity monitored by receiver alone without external correction data. In the 60 sec simulation, the protection level of the proposed RRAIM compared to the conventional RRAIM was calculated to be 140% due to the accumulated ionospheric delay error. Nevertheless, it was confirmed that the final vertical protection level meeting the requirements of LPV-200, which cannot be achieved with single frequency GPS receiver alone.

  • As the spreading speed of electric vehicles increases rapidly, those are expected to be able to use them as flexible resources in the power system beyond the concern for the supply of its charging power. Especially when the Renewable Energy sources (RES) which have no intrinsic control capability have replaced the synchronous generators more and more, the power system needs to secure the additional frequency control resources to ensure its stability. However, the feasibility of using electric vehicles as the frequency control resources should be analyzed from the perspective of the power system operation and it requires the existing simulation frameworks for the power system. Therefore, this paper proposes the grid connected modeling of the primary frequency control provided by electric vehicles which can be integrated into the existing power system model. In addition, the proposed model is implemented considering technical performances constrained by the characteristics of the Vehicle-Grid Integration (VGI) system so that the simulation results can be accepted by the power utilities operating the power system conservatively.

  • When the vibration of a phantom induced by Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripter (ESWL) was investigated. we found the fact that the Peak frequency in the Power spectrum shifts from high frequency to low frequency as the number of shots increases[2]. The fact was confirmed experimentally by detecting the peak frequency obtained from the vibrations of bronze models[3]. This Paper investigates the experimental results. For the Purpose. we carried out the computer simulation using the finite element method. It is found that the results from the experiments are computer by computer simulation.

  • In this paper, we propose an channel estimation method for Multi-Input Multi-Output-Orthogonal frequency Division Multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM). The proposed method estimates uniquely all channel frequency responses needed in space-frequency block coded OFDM systems using "comb-type" pilot symbols. To reduce the computational complexity of the proposed method, least square(LS) and linear minimum mean square error(LMMSE) are used in the frequency-domain. The performance of the proposed approach is evaluated by computer simulation for rayleigh fading channel.

  • In this paper, a fine residual frequency offset estimation scheme is proposed for multiband orthogonal frequency division multiplexing ultra-wideband (MB-OFDM UWB) systems. The basic idea of our approach is based on the fact that two adjacent OFDM symbols carry the identical information in the MB-OFDM UWB system, thus removing the need of pilot symbols. The mean square error of the synchronization scheme is evaluated and simulation results are used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed estimator. When compared to the pilot-aided conventional estimator, the proposed estimator has a lower estimation error.
