Respiration is induced by muscular contraction of the chest and abdomen, resulting in the abdominal volume change. Thus, continuous measurement of the abdominal dimension enables to monitor breathing activity. Conductive rubber cord has been previously introduced and tested to develop wearable application for respiratory measurements. The present study implemented wireless wearable respiratory monitoring system with the conductive rubber cord in the patient's pants. Signal extraction circuitry was developed to obtain the abdominal circumference changes reflecting the lung volume variation caused by respiratory activity. Wireless transmission was followed based on the zigbee communication protocol in a size of 65mm${\times}$105mm easily put in pocket. Successful wireless monitoring of respiration was performed in that breathing frequency was accurately estimated as well as different breathing patterns were easily recognized from the abdominal signal. $CO_2$ inhalation experiment was additionally performed in purpose of quantitative estimation of tidal volume. Air mixed with $0{\sim}5%\;CO_2$was inhaled by 4 normal males and the respiratory air flow rate, abdominal dimension change, and end tidal $CO_2$ concentration were simultaneously measured in steady state. $CO_2$ inhalation increased the tidal volume in normal physiological state with a correlation coefficient of 0.90 between the tidal volume and the end tidal $CO_2$ concentration. The tidal volume estimated from the abdominal signal linearly correlated with the accurate tidal volume measured by pneumotachometer with a correlation coefficient of 0.88 with mean relative error of approximately 8%. Therefore, the tidal volume was accurately estimated by measuring the abdominal dimension change.

Thermal stress of livestock has been issued due to recent climate change trends and this causes reproductive disorders, decreased feed consumption, immunosuppression, and increased mortality of animals. Concept of THI has been widely used to quantitatively evaluate the degree of thermal stress for animals, however use of this concept is restricted for animals living in the enclosed facilities such as mechanically ventilated broiler houses. In this study, time-based internal energy flow and variation trends of temperature and humidity were analyzed based on BES technique. Local weather data, insulation characteristics of building materials, heat and moisture generation rate from broilers according to age, algorithm of ventilation operation were adopted for boundary condition of the model to accurately compute THI values inside the mechanically ventilated broiler house. From the BES computation, excess frequency of THI threshold in Jeju city was highest on the assumption that air conditioning equipments were not installed. When general raising density ($39kg\;m^{-2}$) was adopted, total 2,191 hours were exceeded. Excess hours of THI threshold were strongly related to the cumulative air temperature ($R^2=0.87$).

This study looks into forest fire occurrence hazards according to the change of temperature and humidity over thirty years at interval of ten days. We used data from the forest fire inventory from 1995 to 2004 and weather data such as average temperature and relative humidity for 30 years from 1971 to 2000. These data were expressed as a database with ten-day intervals for 76 weather stations. Forest fire hazards occurred in the spring season from the end of March to the middle of April. For the first step, the primitive surface of temperature and humidity was interpolated by IDW (the standard interpolation method). These thematic maps have a 1 km by 1 km grid spacing resolution. Next, we executed a simple regression analysis after extracting forest fire frequency, temperature and humidity values from 76 weather stations. The results produced a coefficient of determination ($R^2$) ranging from 0.4 to 0.6. Moreover, the estimation of forest fire occurrence hazards during early April was very high at Gyeongbuk Interior, Chungcheong Interior and part of Gangwon. The range of temperature and humidity having an influence on forest fire occurrence was as follows: average temperature and relative humidity in early April was $9-12^{\circ}C$ and 61-65%. At the end of March, temperature was $6-10^{\circ}C$, humidity 62-67%, and temperature was $11-14^{\circ}C$ and humidity 60-67% in the middle of April.
Recently, the overseas construction market has been actively promoted for about 10 years, and overseas dam construction has been continuously performed. For the economic and safe construction of the dam, it is important to prepare the main dam construction plan considering the design frequency of the diversion tunnel and the cofferdam. In this respect, the prediction of river level during the rainy season is significant. Since most of the overseas dam construction sites are located in areas with poor infrastructure, the most efficient and economic method to predict the water level in dam construction is to use the upstream water level. In this study, a linear regression model, which is one of the simplest statistical methods, was proposed and examined to predict the downstream level from the upstream level. The Pyeongchang River basin, which has the characteristics of the upper stream (mountain stream), was selected as the target site and the observed water level in Pyeongchang and Panwoon gaging station were used. A regression equation was developed using the water level data set from August 22th to 27th, 2017, and its applicability was tested using the water level data set from August 28th to September 1st, 2018. The dependent variable was selected as the "level difference between two stations," and the independent variable was selected as "the level of water level in Pyeongchang station two hours ago" and the "water level change rate in Pyeongchang station (m/hr)". In addition, the accuracy of the developed equation was checked by using the regression statistics of Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Adjusted Coefficient of Determination (ACD), and Nach Sutcliffe efficiency Coefficient (NSEC). As a result, the statistical value of the linear regression model was very high, so the downstream water level prediction using the upstream water level was examined in a highly reliable way. In addition, the results of the application of the water level change rate (m/hr) to the regression equation show that although the increase of the statistical value is not large, it is effective to reduce the water level error in the rapid level rise section. Accordingly, this is a significant advantage in estimating the evacuation water level during main dam construction to secure safety in construction site.

The application of health monitoring, including a fault detection technique, is needed to secure the structural safety of large structures. A 2-step crack identification method for detecting the crack location and size of the beam structure is presented. First, a crack occurrence region was estimated using the modified Laplacian operator for the strain mode shape obtained from the distributed local strain data. The crack location and size were then identified based on the natural frequencies obtained from the acceleration data and the neural network technique for the pre-estimated crack occurrence region. The natural frequencies of a cracked beam were calculated based on an equivalent bending stiffness induced by the energy method, and used to generate the training patterns of the neural network. An experimental study was carried out on an aluminum cantilever beam to verify the present method for crack identification. Cracks were produced on the beam, and free vibration tests were performed. A crack occurrence region was estimated using the modified Laplacian operator for the strain mode shape, and the crack location and size were assessed using the natural frequencies and neural network technique. The identified crack occurrence region agrees well with the exact one, and the accuracy of the estimation results for the crack location and size could be enhanced considerably for 3 damage cases. The presented method could be applied effectively to the structural health monitoring of large structures.

The objective of this study is to propose a new method to determine the drought event and the design drought severity. In order to define a drought event from precipitation data, theory of run was applied with the cumulative rainfall deficit. When we have a large amount of rainfall over the threshold level, in this study, we compare with the previous cumulative rainfall deficit to determine whether the drought is relieved or not. The recurrence characteristics of the drought severity on the specific duration was analyzed by the conditional bivariate copula function and confidence intervals were estimated to quantify uncertainties. The methodology was applied to Seoul station with the historical dataset (1909~2015). It was observed that the past droughts considered as extreme hydrological events had from 10 to 50 years of return period. On the other hand, the current on-going drought event started from 2013 showed the significantly higher return period. It is expected that the result of this study may be utilized as the reliable criteria based on the concept of return period for the drought contingency plan.

The purposes of this study are to show in interpersonal relations what factors male students are stressed from, how they experience stress, how they cope With it in each situation, and what this results in It attempt to gam basic materials to promote male student health and positive coping methods, The subject of this study was 15 male students of C University located in Seoul and Kyeonggui-Do They were composed of 5 sophomores, 5 Juniors and 5 seniors The period for collecting materials was October 1997 to January 1998, and the interview time ranged from 50 minutes to two hours The interview frequency was one to three times as occasion demanded, The materials were analyzed by the methods and theory suggested by Strauss & Corbin (1990) The results were 130 categories grouped into 33 divisions by similarity Finally, they were united into 9 higher categories In interpersonal relations the core category of male student stress is "affliction", and it follows the course of generation-coping-resolution The types showed in the course of material analysis are as follows, (1) When the subject student is on good terms with the other and the stress is repeated- "affliction" is strong and continuous-and his ability sense is strong, he copes with "affliction" With his own will and solves It affirmatively, (2) When the subject student is on good terms with the other and the stress is repeated-so "affliction" is strong and continuous-and his ability sense is weak, he copes with "affliction" with an emotional bias and solves it negatively (3) When the subject student is on good terms with the other and the stress is temporary-"affliction" is strong and temporary-and his ability sense is strong, he copes with "affliction" with his own will and solves it affirmatively (4) When the subject student becomes estranged from the other and the stress is temporary-"affliction" is weak and temporary-and his ability sense is weak, he copes with "affliction" with an emotional bias and solves it negatively, (5) When the subject student becomes estranged from the other and the stress is repeated-"affliction" is strong-and continuous and his ability sense is strong, he copes with "affliction" with his own will and solves it affirmatively (6) When the subject student becomes estranged from the other and the stress is repeated-"affliction" is strong and continuous-and his ability sense is weak, he copes with "affliction" with an emotional bias and solves it negatively. According to the above results, the conditions of cause and effect for male students to generate "affliction" should be understood in order to help cope with stress caused by interpersonal relations A program for education and counseling should be developed for male students to strengthen their 'ability sense' in choosing coping strategies In addition, the individual estimation for ability sense should be performed when education and counseling them.

In modern electronic warfare systems, the necessity of a more accurate estimation method based on non-AOA (arrival of angle) measurement, such as TDOA and FDOA, have been increased. The previous researches using single TDOA have been carried out in terms of not only the development of emitter location algorithms but also the enhancement of measurement accuracy. Recently, however, the combined TDOA/FDOA method is of considerable interest because it is able to estimate the velocity vector of a moving emitter and acquire a pair of TDOA and FDOA measurements from a single sensor pair. In this circumstance, it is needed to derive the required FDOA measurement accuracy in order that the TDOA/FDOA combined localization system outperforms the previous single TDOA localization systems. Therefore, we analyze the contribution of FDOA measurement accuracy to emitter location, then propose the criterion based on CRLB (Cramer-Rao lower bound). Simulations are included to examine the validity of the proposed criterion by using the Gauss-Newton algorithm.
Objectives: In response to increased interest in the safety of children's products, a risk management system is being prepared through exposure assessment of hazardous chemicals. To estimate exposure levels, risk assessors are using deterministic and probabilistic approaches to statistical methodology and a commercialized Monte Carlo simulation based on tools (MCTool) to efficiently support calculation of the probability density functions. This study was conducted to analyze and discuss the usage patterns and problems associated with the results of these two approaches and MCTools used in the case of probabilistic approaches by reviewing research reports related to exposure assessment for children's products. Methods: We collected six research reports on exposure and risk assessment of children's products and summarized the deterministic results and corresponding underlying distributions for exposure dose and concentration results estimated through deterministic and probabilistic approaches. We focused on mechanisms and differences in the MCTools used for decision making with probabilistic distributions to validate the simulation adequacy in detail. Results: The estimation results of exposure dose and concentration from the deterministic approaches were 0.19-3.98 times higher than the results from the probabilistic approach. For the probabilistic approach, the use of lognormal, Student's T, and Weibull distributions had the highest frequency as underlying distributions of the input parameters. However, we could not examine the reasons for the selection of each distribution because of the absence of test-statistics. In addition, there were some cases estimating the discrete probability distribution model as the underlying distribution for continuous variables, such as weight. To find the cause of abnormal simulations, we applied two MCTools used for all reports and described the improper usage routes of MCTools. Conclusions: For transparent and realistic exposure assessment, it is necessary to 1) establish standardized guidelines for the proper use of the two statistical approaches, including notes by MCTool and 2) consider the development of a new software tool with proper configurations and features specialized for risk assessment. Such guidelines and software will make exposure assessment more user-friendly, consistent, and rapid in the future.
In the beginning brain waves were used for monkeys to control robot arm with neural activity. In recent years there are research that measured brain waves are used for the control of programs which monitor the progression of dementia or enhance of attention in children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Moreover, low-price devices that can be used as a game control interface have become available. One of the problems associated with control using brain waves is that the mean amplitude, mean wavelength, and mean vibrational frequency of the brain waves differ from individual to individual. This paper attempts to propose a method to normalize measured brain waves using normal distribution and calculate the waveforms that can be used in controlling games. For this, a framework in which brain waves are converted in seven stages has been suggested. In addition, the estimation process in each stage has been described. In an experiment the waveforms of two subjects have been compared using the proposed method in the BCI English word learning program. The level of similarity between two subjects' waveforms has been compared with correlation coefficient. When the proposed method was applied, both meditation and concentration increased by 13% and 8%, respectively. Because the proposed regularization method is converted into a waveform fit for control functions by reducing personal characteristics reflected in the brain waves, it is fitting for application programs such as games.
