Two sets of isometric pushing and pulling experiments were performed by two male and two female susbjects. One set of experiments involoved isometric hand pushing and pulling in a standing erect posture, in which the thigh and pelvic regions of the subjects were braced to achieve the greatest strength. Another set of experiments involved isometric hand pushing and pulling in a free posture, in which the subjects elected their preferred postures to attain the largest strength at each of thred handle heights (low-66cm ; mid-109cm ; and high-152cm). It was shown from isometric pushing and pulling experiments in a standing erect poture that the rectus abdominis and the erector spinae muscles were acting as an antagonistic pair with respect to the L5/S1 intervertebral joint, and that the integrated EMG and the muscle force were linearly related. However, the relationships between the integrated EMG and the muscle force during isometric pushing and pulling in a free posture were not well-correlated. It is proposed that the integrated EMG results should be carefully interpreted for tasks of pushing and pulling at various handle heights.
Biomass, carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus standing crops of bethic community were estimated at the trophic levels in the intertidal zone of Kum river estuary. Annual mean biomass of zoobenthos was 130.5g/$m^2$, body fraction 26.7g/$m^2$ and shell fraction 103.8 g/$m^3$. Biomass estimated as ash-free dry weight was total 28.9g/$m^2$, body fraction 20.2g/$m^2$ and shell fraction 8.7g/$m^2$ Carbon standing crops of zoobenthos were 15.9gC/$m^2$, in which organic carbon content was 7.0gC/$m^2$ and carbonate carbon was 8.9gC/$m^2$. Production efficiency by carbon standing crops from sediment to herbivores and carnivores and 10.6% and 16.0% in phosphorus, respectively. Annual primary production of benthic algae was crudely estimated to 329g.dw/$m^2$/yr by using the biomass and turn-over rate of benthic algae.
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate patients' characteristics and actual conditions of home-based services offered by a free-standing hospice center. Methods: A retrospective review was performed with the medical records of 75 patients who received home-based hospice care from a free-standing hospice center from January 2014 through December 2014. Results: Most patients (54.7%) were enrolled via self-directed referral. The reason for the service termination was death at home 25.3%, admission to a hospice ward 50.7%, hospitalization 22.6% and patients' refusal 2.7%. Seventy three patients had cancer, and two patients had ALS. Among all, 58.7% were in a dying phase, and 34.7% were almost completely bedfast at the time of their enrollment in this study. When they enrolled, the patients' physical symptoms were characterized as pain (89.4%), sleep disturbance (71.2%), urinary difficulties (35.8%) and defecation difficulties (47.8%). Among all, 77.4% terminated the home visit service within one month. The mean frequency of the home visits was 3.25 (${\pm}3.98$), and less than five in 82.7% of patients. The mean frequency of the phone service was 3.40 (${\pm}3.12$). The frequency of doctor's home visits was $1.21{\pm}0.79$ on average, and the figure increased when patients' conditions turned unstable. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop a home-based hospice care model with consideration of patients' characteristics and the actual service conditions delivered by free-standing hospice facilities.

Recent reports have described several cases of double muscle transfers to restore natural, symmetrical smiles in patients with long-standing facial paralysis. However, these complex procedures sometimes result in cheek bulkiness owing to the double muscle transfer. We present the case of a 67-year-old woman with long-standing facial paralysis, who underwent two-stage facial reanimation using two superficial subslips of the serratus anterior muscle innervated by the masseteric and contralateral facial nerves via a sural nerve graft. Each muscle subslip was transferred to the upper lip and oral commissures, which were oriented in different directions. Furthermore, a horizontal fascia lata graft was added at the lower lip to prevent deformities such as lower lip elongation and deviation. Voluntary contraction was noted at roughly 4 months, and a spontaneous smile without biting was noted 8 months postoperatively. At 18 months after surgery, the patient demonstrated a spontaneous symmetrical smile with adequate excursion of the lower lip, upper lip, and oral commissure, without cheek bulkiness. Dual-innervated muscle transfer using two multivector superficial subslips of the serratus anterior muscle may be a good option for long-standing facial paralysis, as it can achieve a symmetrical smile that can be performed voluntarily and spontaneously.
This describes a numerical method for predicting the incompressible unsteady laminar three-dimensional flows of fluid behaviour with free-surface. The elliptic differential equations governing the flows have been linearized by means of finite-difference approximations, and the resulting equations have been solved via a fully-implicit iterative method. The free-surface is defined by the motion of a set of marker particles and interface behaviour was investigated by way of a 'Lagrangian' technique. Using the GALA concept of Spalding, the conventional mass continuity equation is modified to form a volumetric or bulk-continuity equation. The use of this bulk-continuity relation allows the hydrodynamic variables to be computed over the entire flow domain including both liquid and gas regions. Thus, the free-surface boundary conditions are imposed implicitly and the problem formulation is greatly simplified. The numerical procedure is validated by comparing the predicted results of a periodic standing waves problems with analytic solutions or experimental results from the literature. The results show that this numerical method produces accurate and physically realistic predictions of three-dimensional free-surface flows.
Purpose: Particle separation in solution is one of important process in a unit operation as well as in an extract preparation for biosensors. Contrary to centrifuge-type of mesh-type filter, using an ultrasonic standing wave make the filtering process continuous and free from maintenance. It is needed to investigate the characteristics of particle movement in the ultrasonic standing wave field. Methods: Through the computer simulation the effects of major design and driving parameters on the alignment characteristics of particles were investigated, and a cylindrical chamber with up-stream flow type was devised using two circular-shape PZTs on both sides of the chamber, one for transmitting ultrasonic wave and the other for just reflecting it. Then, the system performance was experimentally investigated as well. Results: The speed of a particle to reach pressure-node plane increased as the acoustic pressure and size of particle increased. The maximum allowable up-stream flow rate could be calculated as well. As expected, exact numbers of pressure-node planes were well formed at specific locations according to the wavelength of ultrasonic wave. As the driving frequency of PZT got close to its resonance frequency, the bands of particles were observed clearer, which meant the particles were trapped into narrower space. Higher excitation voltages to the PZT produced a greater acoustic force with which to trap particles in the pressure-node planes, so that the particles gathered could move upwards without disturbing their alignments even at a higher inlet flow rate. Conclusions: This research showed the feasibility of particle separation in solution in the continuous way by an ultrasonic standing wave. Further study is needed to develop a device to collect or harvest those separated particles.

$TiO_2$ anatase nanotube arrays (NTAs) were grown by electrochemical anodization and followed annealing of Ti foil. Ethylene glycol/$NH_4F$-based organic electrolyte was used for electrolyte solution and using second anodization process to obtain free-standing NTAs. After obtaining NTAs, ITO film was deposited by sputtering process on bottom of NTAs. UV-curable NOA was used for attach free-standing NTAs on flexible plastic substrate (PEN). Solid state electrolyte (spiro-OMeTAD) was coated via spin-coating method on top of attached NTAs. Ag was deposited as a counter electrode. Under AM 1.5 simulated sunlight, optical characteristics of devices were investigated. In order to use flexible polymer substrate, processes have to be conducted at low temperature. In case of $TiO_2$ nano particles (NPs), however, crystallization of NPs at high temperature above $450^{\circ}C$ is required. Because NTAs were conducted high temperature annealing process before NTAs transfer to PEN, it is favorable for using PEN as flexible substrate. Fabricated flexible solid-state DSSCs make possible the preventing of liquid electrolyte corrosion and leakage, various application.

The turbulence effect of particle deposition on a horizontal free-standing wafer in a vertical flow has been studied numerically by using the low-Reynolds-number k-.epsilon. turbulence model. For both the upper and lower surfaces of the wafer, predictions are made of the averaged particle deposition velocity and its radial distribution. Thus, it is now possible to obtain local information about the particle deposition on a free-standing wafer. The present result indicates that the particle deposition velocity on the lower surface of wafer is comparable to that on the upper one in the diffusion controlled deposition region in which the particle sizes are smaller than $0.1{\mu}m$. And it is found in this region that, compared to the laminar flow case, the averaged deposition velocity under the turbulent flow is about two times higher, and also that the local deposition velocity at the center of wafer is high equivalent to that the wafer edge.

This paper presents free vibration analysis method using the characteristics of the rotationally periodic structures and includes the analysis results of a tire as an example. The normal modes of the rotationally periodic structures are the kind of standing waves, so all sectors have the same deflection shapes, and only different phases. This property makes it possible to derive the analysis method called sector method. The sector method can give the accurate natural frequencies and the corresponding mode shapes of the rotationally periodic structure with information of only one sector. When the free vibration analysis is performed to find the dynamic characteristics of the rotationally periodic structure by using the sector method, the computer memory spaces and the CPU times can be saved. We obtained much economic benefits by using the sector method in the analysis of dynamic characteristics of a tire made of non-linear materials.
In this study, we investigated the simultaneous detection properties of organic vapor, pressure difference, and magnetic field using a single rugate-structured free-standing porous silicon (RFPS) thin film. Both the wavelength and the intensity of the rugate peaks were changed in the reflectivity spectrum measured at the thin film surface while the organic vapor was exposed to the RFPS thin film. However, when the pressure difference and the magnetic field were exposed to the film, only the rugate peak intensity was changed. Therefore, it is possible to distinguish whether or not the organic vapor is detected by simultaneously changing the rugate peak wavelength and intensity. In addition, a method of distinguishing between the pressure difference and the magnetic field detection signal has been derived by rapidly modulating the direction of the magnetic field. This study shows that it is possible to simultaneously detect and distinguish various objects using a single RFPS thin film, and it is found that porous silicon can be utilized as a sensor sufficiently.
