  • The past recent years have seen an increasing use of high-strength steel sheets in the automotive industry. However, the formability and damage prediction of these materials requires accurate acquisition of necking and fracture strains. Digital image correlation (DIC) is used to accurately capture the necking and fracture strains during testing. The fact that single time points of capturing vary with frame rate makes the need for an investigation necessary. For the high-strength steel DP980, the frame-rate dependences of the final necking and fracture strains values are analyzed here. To eliminate the influence of gauge length, the strains were measured locally by DIC. Results for three specimen shapes obtained with frame rates of 1 and 900 fps (frames per second) were considered and based on them, triaxiality failure diagrams (TFD) are established. It was observed that after diffuse necking, the deformation path departed from the initially linear one, and the stress triaxiality grew with ongoing deformation. It was further revealed that the frame rate-dependence of the necking strain was rather low (< 2%), whereas the fracture strain could be underestimated by up to 8% when the lower frame rate of 1 fps was used (compared with 900 fps). In this study, this issue is investigated while taking into consideration the three different triaxialities. These results demonstrate the importance of choosing an appropriate frame rate for the determination of necking and fracture strains in particular.

선형 움직임 기반 프레임률 향상 기법 (Motion Linearity-based Frame Rate Up Conversion Method)

  • 낮은 프레임률을 가지는 동영상을 높은 프레임률 디스플레이 장치를 통해 재생하는 경우 프레임률 향상기법이 필요하다. 프레임 향상 기법은 연속된 원본 프레임 사이에 프레임을 보간함으로써 생성하며 이러한 프레임 보간방법은 크게 프레임 복사 기법과 움직임벡터 기반의 보간기법으로 나뉜다. 프레임 복사 기법은 단순히 보간하고자 하는 프레임의 이전 또는 이후 프레임을 복사하는 기법으로 매우 낮은 복잡도를 가지지만 저키현상이 발생하는 단점이 있다. 움직임 벡터 추정 및 보상을 통한 프레임 보간기법은 다시 화소단위의 방법과 블록단위의 움직임 추정 방법으로 나눌 수 있다. 화소기반의 경우 영역별 다른 보간 방법을 사용하여 보간을 수행하며 높은 복잡도를 가지는 단점이 있다. 블록기반 방법은 상대적으로 낮은 복잡도를 가지지만 블록킹현상이 발생한다는 단점을 가진다. 제안하는 방법은 블록단위의 움직임 추정 기반 프레임률 향상기법으로 프레임내 움직임의 선형성을 이용하여 움직임을 추정한다. 이 과정에서 보간하고자 하는 프레임 이전 두 프레임과 이후 한 프레임을 사용하여 움직임 추정 및 보상을 수행함으로써 프레임을 보간하다. 실험결과 제안한 알고리즘은 객관적 화질 측면에서 이전의 다른 방법과 비교하여 높은 성능을 보이고 특히 해상도가 높은 경우 더욱 우수한 성능을 가지는 것으로 나타났으며 주관적 화질 또한 상대적으로 우수한 것을 볼 수 있었다.

Multilayered frame structure subjected to non-linear creep: A delamination analysis

  • The present paper is concerned with a delamination analysis of a multilayered frame structure that exhibits non-linear creep behavior. A solution to the strain energy release rate is obtained by considering the time-dependent complementary strain energy in the frame. The mechanical behavior of the frame is treated by using a non-linear stress-strain-time relationship. The time-dependent solution to the strain energy release rate obtained in the present paper holds for a multilayered frame made of arbitrary number of adhesively bonded layers of different thicknesses and material properties. Besides, the dealamination is located arbitrary along the thickness. The solution to the strain energy release rate is verifiedby applying the J-integral approach. A parametric study of the strain energy release rate is carried-out. Two three-layered frame configurations are analyzed in order to evaluate the influence of the delamination crack location along the thickness on the strain energy release rate. The strain energy release is analyzed also for the case when a notch is cut-out in the inner delamination crack arm. The results obtained are compared with these for a frame without a notch.

대형트럭 프레임의 결합방법이 조종성능에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of the Mounted Method of Frame of a Large Truck on Handling Performance)

  • This paper develops a computer model of a cabover type large truck for estimating the effects of the mounted method of frame on handling performance. The computer model considers two mounted methods of frame; flange mounted and web mounted. Frame is modeled by finite elements using MSC/NASTRAN in order to consider the flexibility of frame. The reliability of the developed computer model is verified by comparing the actual vehicle test results with the simulation results. The actual vehicle test is performed in a double lane change course, and lateral acceleration, yaw rate, and roll angle are measured. To estimate the effects of the mounted method of frame on handling performance, simulations are performed with the flange mounted and web mounted frame. Simulation results show that the web mounted frame's variations of roll angle, lateral acceleration, and yaw rate are larger than the flange mounted frame's variations, especially in the high test velocity and the second part of the double lane course. Also, simulation results show that the web mounted frame's tendencies of roll angle, lateral acceleration, and yaw rate advance the flange mounted frame's tendencies, especially in the high test velocity and the second part of the double lane course.

Novel Frame Interpolation Method for High Image Quality LCDs

  • We developed a novel frame interpolation method to interpolate a frame between two successive original frames. Using this method, we are able to apply a double-rate driving method instead of an impulse driving method where a black frame is inserted between two successive original frames. The double-rate driving method enables amelioration of the motion blur of LCDs caused by the characteristics of human vision without reducing the luminosity of the whole screen. The image quality of the double-rate driving method was also found to be better than that of an impulse driving method using our motion picture simulator and an actual panel. Our initial model of our frame interpolation method consists of motion estimation with a maximum matching pixel count estimation function, an area segmentation technique, and motion compensation with variable segmentation threshold. Although salt and pepper noise remained in a portion of an object mainly due to inaccuracy of motion estimation, we verified the validity of our method and the possibility of improvement in hold-type motion blurring.

Frame-Size Adaptive MAC Protocol in High-Rate Wireless Personal Area Networks

  • In this letter, we propose a frame-size adaptive MAC protocol for high rate wireless personal area networks (WPANs). In the proposed scheme, during communication, frame error rate is periodically reported to a transmitting device and the frame size is changed according to the measured results. Thus, the channel can be more effectively utilized by adapting to variable radio conditions. Analytical results show that this scheme achieves a much higher throughput than a non-frame-size adaptive media access control protocol in high-rate WPANs.

Rate control to reduce bitrate fluctuation on HEVC

  • This paper proposes a frame-level rate control algorithm for low delay video applications to reduce the fluctuations in the bitrate. The proposed algorithm minimizes the bitrate fluctuations in two ways with minimal coding loss. First, the proposed rate control applies R-Q model to all frames including the first frame of every group of pictures (GOP) except for the first one of a sequence. Conventional rate control algorithms do not use any R-Q models for the first frame of each GOP and do not estimate the generated-bit. An unexpected output rate result from the first frame affects the remainder of the pictures in the rate control. Second, a rate-distortion (R-D) cost is calculated regardless of the hierarchical coding structure for low bitrate fluctuations because the hierarchical coding structure controls the output bitrate in rate distortion optimization (RDO) process. The experimental results show that the average variance of per-frame bits with the proposed algorithm can reduce by approximately 33.8% with a delta peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) degradation of 1.4dB for a "low-delay B" coding structure and by approximately 35.7% with a delta-PSNR degradation of 1.3dB for a "low-delay P" coding structure, compared to HM 8.0 rate control.

질감 활성도 기반 양방향 움직임 추정과 인접 움직임 정보를 이용한 프레임률 증가 기법 (Frame rate up conversion method using bilateral motion estimation based on texture activity and neighboring motion information)

  • In this paper we propose a new frame rate up conversion scheme which is used to overcome the motion blur problem of liquid crystal display caused by its slow response. The conventional bilateral motion estimation method which is mainly used in the frame rate up conversion scheme has a drawback that it cannot find true motion vector if there are blocks with simple texture in the search range. To solve this problem, a texture adaptive bilateral motion estimation method that increases cost value of block with simple texture is proposed. Also a motion estimation scheme that utilizes neighboring motion vector effectively is proposed to reduce computation time required to estimate motion. Since the proposed scheme does not apply all available motion vectors within the search range, the execution time of frame rate up conversion can be reduced dramatically. Experimental results show that the interpolated frame image quality of the proposed method is improved in subjective as well as objective view point compared with that of the conventional method.

Analysis on the dynamic characteristics of RAC frame structures

  • The dynamic tests of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) are carried out, the rate-dependent mechanical models of RAC are proposed. The dynamic mechanical behaviors of RAC frame structure are investigated by adopting the numerical simulation method of the finite element. It is indicated that the lateral stiffness and the hysteresis loops of RAC frame structure obtained from the numerical simulation agree well with the test results, more so for the numerical simulation which is considered the strain rate effect than for the numerical simulation with strain rate excluded. The natural vibration frequency and the lateral stiffness increase with the increase of the strain rate. The dynamic model of the lateral stiffness is proposed, which is reasonably applied to describe the effect of the strain rate on the lateral stiffness of RAC frame structure. The effect of the strain rate on the structural deformation and capacity of RAC is analyzed. The analyses show that the inter-story drift decreases with the increase of the strain rate. However, with the increasing strain rate, the structural capacity increases. The dynamic models of the base shear coefficient and the overturning moment of RAC frame structure are developed. The dynamic models are important and can be used to evaluate the strength deterioration of RAC structure under dynamic loading.

  • A new video interpolation technique based on variable skip rate of video sequence is proposed in this paper. in the proposed technique. the determination whether a frame is skipped or not is done by the degree of motion complexity of the frame. If the motion complexity of a frame is low the frame is skipped. otherwise it is coded and transmitted. To determine the motion complexity of a frame a new technique using MEF (moving edge in frame),the set of pixels considered as moving edges in a frame. is introduced. In the course of decoding and interpolating of receiver., the motion field is segmented. For the purpose of dividing vector field morphological filtering is applied. Morphological filtering also used to smooth the boundaries between the changed and unchanged region. In the simulation results, the proposed technique shows higher quality and lower fluctuation of picture quality than the conventional techniques on conditioning of the same bit rate.
