  • In this article, hygro-thermo-mechanical vibration and buckling of exponentially graded (EG) nanoplates resting on two-parameter Pasternak foundations are studied using the four-unknown shear deformation plate theory. The material properties are presumed to change only in the thickness direction of the EG nanoplate according to two exponential laws distribution. The boundary conditions of the nanoplate may be simply supported, clamped, free or combination of them. To consider the small scale effect on forced frequencies and buckling, Eringen's differential form of nonlocal elasticity theory is employed. The accuracy of the present study is investigated considering the available solutions in literature. A detailed analysis is executed to study the influences of the plate aspect ratio, side-to-thickness ratio, temperature rise, moisture concentration and volume fraction distributions on the vibration and buckling of the nanoplates.

  • Ambient ge-phase $H_2O$$_2$(Hydrogen Peroxide) concentrations were measured at four sites in downtown Seoul Korea. These measurements were mad during winter and summer, February 14~19 and 12~17, 1997. $H_2O$$_2$concentrations were quantified by fluorescence using enzyms. $H_2O$$_2$ concentrations in winter were below the limit of detection and was much higher concentrations in summer. The mean of all observations was 264 ppt and the range measured was 23ppt~1856ppt. The results from the correlation analysis showed that the concentration of gasous $H_2O$$_2$is dependent on the other air pollutants(O$_3$, NO$_2$) and meteorological parameter(solar radiation).

  • Polyeyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were quantitatively determined in bivalves from Gwangyang Bay. Twenty-four kinds of target PAHs were detected in the entire samples. Total PAHs concentrations ranged 86.1∼1,210 ng g$\^$-1/ dry weight with a average concentration of 309 ng g$\^$-1/, which is much lower than those of other industrialized bays in Korea. Strong tidal currents and artificial interferences like reclamation and dredging activity were suggested as major reason for disparity between highly industrialization and low contamination status. There was no correlation between total PAHs and lipid contents, implying that lipid content is not the one major parameter for the accumulation of PAHs by bivalves. Input sources were inferred as petrogenic and pyrogenic PAHs. With help of PCA analysis, signals of seasonal variations, not only concentrations but also compositions were found.

  • The method of generalized estimating equations(GEE) is widely used in the analysis of a correlated dataset that consists of repeatedly observed responses within subjects. The GEE uses a quasi-likelihood equations to find the parameter estimates without assuming a specific distribution for the correlated responses. In this paper we study the importance of specifying the working correlation structure appropriately in fitting GEE for correlated counts data. We investigate the empirical coverages of confidence intervals for the regression coefficients according to four kinds of working correlations where one structure should be specified by the users. The confidence intervals are computed based on the asymptotic normality and the sandwich variance estimator.

  • This paper proposes a bending analysis for a functionally graded piezoelectric (FGP) plate through utilizing a two-variable shear deformation plate theory under simply-supported edge conditions. The number of unknown functions used in this theory is only four. The electric potential distribution is assumed to be a combination of a cosine function along the cartesian coordinate. Applying the analytical solutions of FGP plate by using Navier's approach and the principle of virtual work, the equilibrium equations are derived. The paper also discusses thoroughly the impact of applied electric voltage, plate's aspect ratio, thickness ratio and inhomogeneity parameter. Results are compared with the analytical solution obtained by classical plate theory, first-order-shear deformation theory, higher-order shear deformation plate theories and quasi-three-dimensional sinusoidal shear deformation plate theory.

  • A bright post-breakout emission was detected for a Type Ic supernova (SN Ic) LSQ14efd, which was among the first for SNe Ic. To explain the early-time light curve and color evolution, the effects of the circumstellar medium (CSM) are investigated. Four main parameters, CSM mass, CSM radius, nickel distribution, and explosion energy, are systematically explored in multi-group radiation hydrodynamics simulations, STELLA. Matching the model light curves and color evolution with the observation, we could constrain the parameter space and find out the best fit models. Our results imply that the progenitor suffered a strong mass loss shortly before the explosion and had a massive CSM of ~0.1 M.

  • The present study examines the natural frequencies (NFs) of perfect/imperfect functionally graded sandwich beams (P/IP-FGSBs), which are composed of a porous core constructed of functionally graded materials (FGMs) and a homogenous isotropic metal and ceramic face sheets resting on elastic foundations. To accomplish this, the material properties of the FGSBs are assumed to vary continuously along the thickness direction as a function of the volume fraction of constituents expressed by the modified rule of the mixture, which includes porosity volume fraction represented using four distinct types of porosity distribution models. Additionally, to characterize the reaction of the two-parameter elastic foundation to the Perfect/Imperfect (P/IP) FGSBs, the medium is assumed to be linear, homogeneous, and isotropic, and it is described using the Winkler-Pasternak model. Furthermore, the kinematic relationship of the P/IP-FGSBs resting on the Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundations (WPEFs) is described using trigonometric shear deformation theory (TrSDT), and the equations of motion are constructed using Hamilton's principle. A closed-form solution is developed for the free vibration analysis of P/IP-FGSBs resting on the WPEFs under four distinct boundary conditions (BCs). To validate the new formulation, extensive comparisons with existing data are made. A detailed investigation is carried out for the effects of the foundation coefficients, mode numbers (MNs), porosity volume fraction, power-law index, span to depth ratio, porosity distribution patterns (PDPs), skin core skin thickness ratios (SCSTR), and BCs on the values of the NFs of the P/IP-FGSBs.

  • This research is to the selection of optimal probability distribution as well as the estimation for design hourly factor in consideration of traffic characteristic, such as road function, lane number and AADT. To accomplish the objectives, we are applied to various probability distribution using traffic data that observed at permanent traffic count points in 2005. The parameters or the selected 14 probability distribution were estimated based on the method of maximum likelihood and the validity condition of the estimated parameter The goodness-of-fit test, such as chi-square test. was performed as well as the estimation of design hourly factor. As a result, An appropriate distributions of each case were selected : Pearson V for two lane of rural roads, LogLogistic for the four lane of rural roads, LogLogistic for the urban roads, Extreme value for recreation roads. And optimal K factor are as following : $0.1{\sim}0.2 $ for two lane of rural roads, $0.09{\sim}0.14$ for the four lane of rural roads. $0.07{\sim}0.13$ for the urban roads, $0.1{\sim}0.2$ for recreation roads.

  • In this study, an unbraced five-story steel-framed structure was designed in accordance with KBC2005 to understand the features of structural behavior for the arrangement of semi-rigid connections. An inelastic time history analysis of structural models was performed, wherein all the connections were idealized as fully rigid and semi-rigid. Additionally, horizontal and vertical arrangements of semi-rigid connections were used for the models. A fiber model was utilized for the moment-curvature relationship of a steel beam and a column, a three-parameter power model for the moment-rotation angle of the semi-rigid connection, and a three-parameter model for the hysteretic behavior of a steel beam, column, and connection. The base-shear force, top displacement, story drift, required ductility for the connection, maximum bending moment of the column, beam, and connection, and distribution of the plastic hinge were investigated using four earthquake excitations with peak ground acceleration for a mean return period of 2,400 years and for the maximum base-shear force in the pushover analysis of a 5% story drift. The maximum base-shear force and story drift decreased with the outer vertical distribution of the semi-rigid connection, and the required ductility for the connection decreased with the higher horizontal distribution of the semi-rigid connection. The location of the maximum story drift differed in the pushover analysis and the time history analysis, and the magnitude was overestimated in the pushover analysis. The outer vertical distribution of the semi-rigid connection was recommended for the base-shear force, story drift, and required ductility for the connection.
