  • Photovoltaic technology has been intensively developed as one of the most powerful renewable energies, replacing a fossil fuel such as coal and petroleum. Every country in the world has emphasized on development of photovoltaic technology and our government has invested heavily in low cost and high efficiency. Korea institute of industrial technology (KITECH) has lastingly constructed PV R&D infra for development of cost-effective and high efficiency solar cells as well as support of commercialization in PV's small and medium enterprises. In this paper, we introduce the next generation PV R&D and infra in KITECH.

  • Since the late 1960s, the selection of the parameters of power system stabilizer (PSS) to damp out sustained low frequency oscillation of power generators in the steady state has been an active research area. This paper presents a new approach to select the optimal PSS parameters using the sensitivity of the quadratic performance with respect to the PSS parameters. The proposed algorithm has been applied to Seo-Cheon fossil power plant.

  • For the greenhouse 9as emissions' reduction of fossil fuel, the energy policy on the promotion of alternative energy should be implemented. Accordingly, national policies on the development and promotion of alternative energy were made, and related laws and regulations are being made, and comprehensive plans should be followed. The policies and strategies for promoting the renewable energy have been insufficient in comparison with those of the developed countries. This paper suggests the spread extension plan of renewable generation through generation development and priority purchase.

  • Load Management, is originated from efficiency improvement of energy use, or energy conservaion. Traditionally, electric utilities have constructed new power plants to meet the steadily increasing electricity demand. Power development planning, however, is becoming more difficult in the countries like Korea, Japan, and the United States, and increasing concerns about global environmental problems necessitate changes from existing supply-side options based on fossil-fuel to environmentally agreeable supply strategies. This paper discusses the demand side management strategy with emphasis on the concept, implementation scheme, and current practices employed in utilities.

  • The world economy is threatened by rising oil prices due to the depletion of resources, and climatic changes are intensified due to rapid increase of greenhouse gases emission. Global warming is recognized as a worldwide problem not only as national level one, collaborative efforts are in progress actively. The fact is that the development of new & renewable energy which can replace fossil fuel and preserve the environment is the key of the attention in accordance with "low carbon, green growth" policy of our government. Biogas is an energy source. And the best part of using biogas is that wastes are treated in its production process.

  • The huge economical damage and environmental pollution have been occurred for decades because of using of fossil fuel. So the development of alternative energy is urgent. In the west sea of Korea, a proper area for tidal power plant, development and investigation for economical efficient of tidal power plant are preceeding. The water turbine generator with the capacity of 25.4MW was used to compare single-basin flood tide generation with ebb tide generation while considering the water depth and tide in the vicinity of Sukmodo.

  • Most of the present demand in the world is met by fossil and nuclear power plants. A small part is met by renewable energy technologies. Among the renewable power sources, wind and solar energy have experienced a remarkably rapid growth in the past 10 years. Recently the utilization of wind power has been receiving close attention in this country, especially for the electrification of off-shore islands. The objective of this study is to demonstrate a small wind energy system as a stand-alone power source.

  • Solar energy has proven to be a potential clean energy source to help offset the large consumption of fossil. Nowadays, many research projects aim to enhance photovoltaic (PV) system performance and functionality. This research focuses on integrating self-monitor capability into dc-dc converters that control PV panels to detect a fault in series-connected PV cells, called hot spotting. A detection method using ac parameter characterization is proposed and its operation is examined through simulation.

  • Many electrochemical power devices such as solid state batteries and solid oxide fuel cell have been studied and developed for solving energy and environmental problems. Fuel cell is a modular, high efficient and environmentally energy conversion device, it has become a promising option to replace the conventional fossil fuel based electric power plants. This paper offers some new perspectives on fuel cell development and commercialization which come from the broad consideration of the commercialization efforts of the entire fuel cell industry.

  • Regester & Larkin(2005) suggest the issue and risk lifecycle analysis method in risk management, made up of the potential, emerging, current, crisis, and dormant stages. Investment on New & Renewable Energy is meaningful in effect ive risk management for diminishing or reducing the shock of a energy current, at the potential stage. In this study, we survey the risk of traditional fossil fuel projects and develop the risk analysis model for new & renewable energy projects specially geothermal energy resources and gas-hydrate resources.
