부하변동이 심한 화력발전소의 예상 발전 제어 (Anticipatory Generation Control of Fossil Power Plant for Large and Rapid Recurring Load Fluctuations)

  • 대부분 화력 발전소는 기저부하(base load)운전용으로 설계되어 있어 극심한 부하 변동이 계속되는 부하에 대하여는 일반적으로 적합하지 못하다. 특히 전기로와 압연기가 설치된 제철소에 전력을 공급하는 발전소의 경우 연속적인 심한 부하변동으로 일반적으로 발전소 제어 시스템으로는 적당치 않다. 이 논문에서는 이와 같이 연속적으로 급변하는 부하에 대응할 수 있는 화력 발전소 예상 제어 앨고리즘을 제시 하였다. 상헤한 제어 앨고리즘과 모델 계통에 대한 사례 연구를 첨부하였다.

Characterization of depth filter media for gas turbine intake air cleaning

  • A depth filter medium was newly designed in order to achieve high collection of dust and low pressure drop in this work. Multilayer depth filter media consist of an upstream layer of highly porous structure which allows particles to pass through and to follow by one or more downstream layers to hold the particles inside the media. For each filter media, flat sheet and pleated module were made of newly developed depth filter media and filter media of commercial products. Commercial depth filter cartridge for gas turbine air intake cleaning were used as reference for filtration area and pleat geometry of pleated modules. This work attempts to evaluate and compare the newly developed depth filter medium and two commercial filter media in terms of filtration parameters such as air permeability, initial pressure drop, particle retention and pressure drop variation with dust loading. According to the close examination the newly developed depth filter showed better performance compared to the commercial depth filter media.

  • 교토 프로토콜이 2008년 발효됨에 따라, 온실가스를 감소시키기 위한 다양한 옵션들이 검토되고 있다. 그 중 전력산업의 발전부문은 온실가스를 배출하는 주요 원인으로서, 향후 온실가스 배출감소를 위한 노력이 요구되고 있다. 발전부문에서 석탄화력 부문은 특히 배출가스가 많은 발전원으로서 저렴한 발전원가로 인해 현재의 전원구성에서 차지하는 비중이 높은데, 배출가스 부문에 대한 규제가 강화되고, 이러한 요소가 비용화 될수록 타 발전원으로의 점진적인 대체가 요구된다. 본 논문은 전원구성 변화에 의한 배출권거래의 경제적 효과를 분석하고, 이러한 배출권 제약조건을 고려한 최적 전원구성을 산출하는 방법을 제안하고자 한다.

미래 기후변화에 따른 가정 및 상업 부문 에너지수요 변화 추정 (Estimation of Energy Use in Residential and Commercial Sectors Attributable to Future Climate Change)

  • In this study it is attempted to estimate the possible change in energy use for residential and commercial sector in Korea under a future climate change senario. Based on the national energy use and observed temperature data during the period 1991~2010, the optimal base temperature for determining heating and cooling degree days (HDD and CDD) is calculated. Then, net changes in fossil fuel and electricity uses that are statistically linked with a temperature variation are quantified through regression analyses of HDD and CDD against the energy use. Finally, the future projection of energy use is estimated by applying the regression model and future temperature projections by the CMIP5 results under the RCP8.5 scenario. The results indicate that, overall, the net annual energy use will decrease mostly due to a large decrease in the fossil fuel use for heating. However, a clear seasonal contrast in energy use is anticipated in the electricity use; there will be an increase in a warm-season demand for cooling but a decrease in a cold-season demand for heating.

발전부문의 불완전경쟁과 생산성 변화 (Imperfect Competition and Productivity: Korean Fossil-fueled Power Generation Sector)

  • 발전부문의 부분적인 민영화 이후 전력의 도매가격은 한계가격(system marginal price)으로 결정되고, 이 가격은 발전사의 발전량에 의해서 달라지기 때문에 발전사 입장에서는 완전히 외생적으로 결정되는 가격이라 보기 어렵다. 본고는 Harrison(1994), Levinsohn(1993) 등이 개발한 시장의 완전경쟁성이 유지되지 않을 때에도 기업의 생산성 변화와 규모수익성, 마크업률 등을 분석할 수 있는 모형을 한국의 화력발전소 자료에 적용하였다. 분석결과 규모수익은 거의 없으며, 마크업률은 발전소의 사용 에너지 유형에 따라 크게 다른 것으로 나타났다. 아울러 완전경쟁시장을 가정하는 통상적인 분석법에 비해 발전소의 생산성 변화율 계측치도 상당한 정도 차이를 보였다.

PERSPECTIVES OF NUCLEAR HEAT AND HYDROGEN

  • Nuclear energy plays an important role in world energy production by supplying 6% of the world's current total electricity production. However, 86% of the energy consumed worldwide to produce industrial process heat, to generate electricity and to power the transportation sector still originates in fossil fuels. To cope with dwindling fossil fuels and climate change, it is clear that a clean alternative energy that can replace fossil fuels in these sectors is urgently required. Clean hydrogen energy is one such alternative. Clean hydrogen can play an important role not only in synthetic fuel production but also through powering fuel cells in the anticipated hydrogen economy. With the introduction of the high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) that can produce nuclear heat up to $950^{\circ}C$ without greenhouse gas emissions, nuclear power is poised to broaden its mission beyond electricity generation to the provision of nuclear process heat and the massive production of hydrogen. In this paper, the features and potential of the HTGR as the energy source of the future are addressed. Perspectives on nuclear heat and hydrogen applications using the HTGR are discussed.

  • 수소는 에너지를 방출하는 과정에서 부산물로 물만 배출하기 때문에 지속가능한 청정에너지원 중의 하나이다. 현재 세계적으로 사용되는 수소는 대부분 화석연료의 개질에 의해 생산되고 있으며 1kg 수소를 생산하는 과정에서 7kg 이상의 이산화탄소를 배출하고 있다. 수소를 생산하는 과정에서 투입되는 에너지와 자원이 지속가능하고 재생 가능해야 수소를 청정에너지원이라 할 수 있다. 바이오매스는 화석연료를 대체할 수 있는 에너지원중의 하나인데, 그 이유는 바이오매스로부터 수소를 생산할 수 있으며 수소생산과정에서 발생하는 이산화탄소는 바이오매스 생산과정에서 소비되기 때문에 이론적으로 이산화탄소를 발생시키지 않는 에너지원이다. 태양에너지와 물로부터 수소를 생산하는 기술은 지구상에 널려있는 자연에너지와 물을 사용하기 때문에 인류가 직면한 에너지와 환경문제를 해결하기 위한 가장 이상적인 기술 중의 하나이다.

  • Research and development efforts to reduce $CO_2$ emission are in progress to cope with global warming. $CO_2$ emission from fossil fuel fired power plants is a major greenhouse gas source and the post-combustion $CO_2$ capture is considered as a short or medium term option to reduce $CO_2$ emissions. In this study, the application of the post-combustion $CO_2$ capture system, which is based on chemical absorption and stripping processes, to typical fossil fuel fired power plants was investigated. A coal fired plant and a natural gas fired combined cycle plant were selected. Performance of the MEA-based $CO_2$ capture system combined with power plants was analyzed and overall plant performance including the energy consumption of the $CO_2$ capture process was investigated.

RE-ACCELERATION OF FOSSIL ELECTRONS BY SHOCKS ENCOUNTERING HOT BUBBLES IN THE OUTSKIRTS OF GALAXY CLUSTERS

  • Galaxy clusters are known to host many active galaxies (AGNs) with radio jets, which could expand to form radio bubbles with relativistic electrons in the intracluster medium (ICM). It has been suggested that fossil relativistic electrons contained in remnant bubbles from extinct radio galaxies can be re-accelerated to radio-emitting energies by merger-driven shocks via diffusive shock acceleration (DSA), leading to the birth of radio relics detected in clusters. In this study we assume that such bubble consist primarily of thermal gas entrained from the surrounding medium and dynamically-insignificant amounts of relativistic electrons. We also consider several realistic models for magnetic fields in the cluster outskirts, including the ICM field that scales with the gas density as $B_{ICM}{\infty}n^{0.5}_{ICM}$. Then we perform time-dependent DSA simulations of a spherical shock that runs into a lower-density but higher-temperature bubble with the ratio $n_b/n_{ICM}{\approx}T_{ICM}/T_b{\approx}0.5$. We find that inside the bubble the shock speed increases by about 20 %, but the Mach number decreases by about 15% in the case under consideration. In this re-acceleration model, the observed properties of a radio relic such as radio flux, spectral index, and integrated spectrum would be governed mainly by the presence of seed relativistic electrons and the magnetic field profile as well as shock dynamics. Thus it is crucial to understand how fossil electrons are deposited by AGNs in the ICM and how the downstream magnetic field evolves behind the shock in detailed modeling of radio relics.

마이크로그리드의 독립운영 및 연계운영에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Independent Operation and Connected Operation of Microgrid)

  • Fossil fuels are one of the various energy sources used by humans, and industrial development has been achieved by relying on fossil fuels for a long time in the past. In order to respond to the depletion of fossil fuels and climate change, the world is trying to build an eco-friendly energy ecosystem. Research on efficiency improvement using renewable energy and ESS in various ways for energy conversion is being promoted. In this paper, a microgrid for industrial complexes was designed, constructed, and demonstrated. It was operated in two modes: an independent mode that each plant generates and uses independently and a connected operation mode that allows energy sharing between factories. In the case of independent mode, PV and PCS were intermittently stopped and restarted according to the status change of SoC section of each site. But, in the case of the connected operation mode, stable power supply was confirmed through power transaction through the operation of the entire SoC. This paper presented and verified an algorithm to stably supply power to industrial complexes consisting of various consumers with different load characteristics.
