Production of camptothecin ((PT) from callus cultures of Camptotheca acuminata Decne was affected by light and culture conditions. Among the culture media tested, modified B5 medium containing 3% (w/v) sucrose, 2 mg/L B,4-D, 2 times of MS medium vitamins, 500 mg/L casein hydrolysate, 250 mg/L myo-inositol, 0.05% (w/v) activated charcoal, and 0.15% (w/v) gelite was used for callus induction . The highest cell growth and CPT production were obtained in dark and green light condition, respectively. Photoperiod has no effect on cell growth and CPT production. Both cell growth and CPT production were also influenced by combination ratio of red and blue light .Cell growth and CPT production were the highest in the ratio of red and blue light,90:10.
Background: The Northern Hemisphere forest ecosystem is a major sink for atmospheric carbon dioxide, and the subalpine zone stores large amounts of carbon; however, their magnitude and distribution of stored carbon are still unclear. Results: To clarify the carbon distribution and carbon budget in the subalpine zone at volcanic Jeju Island, Korea, we report the C stock and changes therein owing to vegetation form, litter production, forest floor, and soil, and soil respiration between 2014 and 2016, for three subalpine forest ecosystems, namely, Abies koreana forest, Taxus cuspidata forest, and Juniperus chinensis var. sargentii forest. Organic carbon distribution of vegetation and NPP were bigger in the A. koreana forest than in the other two forests. However, the amount of soil organic carbon distribution was the highest in the J. chinensis var. sargentii forest. Compared to the amount of organic carbon distribution (AOCD) of aboveground vegetation (57.15 t C ha-1) on the subalpine-alpine forest in India, AOCD of vegetation in the subalpine forest in Mt. Halla was below 50%, but AOCD of soil in Mt. Halla was higher. We also compared our results of organic carbon budget in subalpine forest at volcanic island with data synthesized from subalpine forests in various countries. Conclusions: The subalpine forest is a carbon reservoir that stores a large amount of organic carbon in the forest soils and is expected to provide a high level of ecosystem services.
This study was carried out to estimate aboveground biomass and net primary production in an average 37-year-old Quercus acutissima stand of Pohang area. Ten sample trees were cut in the forest and soil samples were collected in August, 2001. Estimation for aboveground biomass and net primary production was made by the equation model Wt=$aD^b$ where Wt is ovendry weight in kg and D is DBH in cm. Total aboveground biomass was 115.47ton/ha in the study forest. The proportion of each tree component to total aboveground biomass was high in order of bolewood(63.9%), branches(19.8%), bolebark(16.2%) and leaves(1.2%) in the study forest. Aboveground total net primary production was estimated at 7.89ton/ha in the study area. The proportion of each tree component to total net primary production was high in order of bolewood, bolebark, branch, and leaves.
The effects of inorganic nitrogen sources such as KNO$_3$ and NH$_4$ NO$_3$ on cell growth and production of chlorogenic acid and eleutheroside E derivative were investigated in 5L bioreactor cultures of Eleutherococcus senticosus. The cell growth in the 1/2MS medium containing 15mMKNO$_{3}$. The fresh weight of cells harvested from bioreactor was affected by the concentration ratio of NO$_3$$^{[-10]}$ and NH$_4$$^{+}$ in culture medium. At the viewpoint of secondary metabolite production, the production of chlorogenic acid was affected by the concentration of NH$_4$$^{+}$ in the culture medium, but not by the total concentration of nitrogen sources in the culture medium. Futhermore, eleutheroside E derivative production was also affected by the concentration ratio of NO$_3$$^{[-10]}$ and NH$_4$$^{+}$ in the culture medium. Base on those results, it is suggested that cell growth and production of secondary metabolite(chlorogenic acid and eleutheroside E derivative) could be manipulated by controlling the total concentration of nitrogen sources and the concentration ratio of NO$_3$$^{[-10]}$ and NH$_4$$^{+}$ in the culture medium. medium.
Total forest growing stock and growing stock per ha in Korea are $470\times10^6m^3\;and\;73m^3$, respectively. Those figures mean that forest growing stock was increased 4.7 times more during last 30 years. The annual production of forest biomass comes from forest tending executed by Korea Forest Service was estimated about $1.07\times10^6m^3$ M/T, which was equivalent to $0.45\%$ of total imported crude oil of Korea at 2002. The production is expected to increase and reach up to $1.9\times10^6 M/T$ till 2008. The analysis of economic feasibility showed that the production cost of wood chip(134,786Won/T) was about 30,389 Won/T higher than heat value of wood chip, 104,397 Won/T estimated from that of kerosene. For the promotion of forest bioenergy utilization, more efforts need to be given for the education and public relations to induce publicity a willingness-to-pay for the environment friendly fuels under the good understanding for the use of bioenergy. In addition, we need to provide a community-based biomass utilization program by region to allocate the role of each participant and to increase the profitability of bioenergy.

The study aims to determine the influencing factors and their impact on the management of the forest land used for production allotted to peasant households and proposes solutions to improve its management. Secondary data was calculated until the end of 2019 at state agencies. The primary data was collected through 2 steps. To determine the factors influencing forest land management for production, step one involved a survey of 100 households that were given access to forest land. Step 2 involved a survey of 215 households to determine how factors impacted the Likert scale's five levels. The study also used a multivariate regression model and SPSS24.0 software to determine the impact rates of factor groups. The study indicated 43 factors that belong to 11-factor groups affecting the management of forest land for production. The policy and legal factors group is the most influential, with an impact rate of 12.72%, followed by 10 other factor groups with impact rates ranging from 4.08% to 11.74%. The solutions include improving policies and laws, strengthening the dissemination of policies and laws; encouraging investment, completing cadastral work, intensifying inspection, examination, and sanctioning of administrative violations of land, upgrading the infrastructure system, and ensuring enough human resources to manage forest land.

The main purpose of this study was to examine the influence of treatment amounts of Slurry Composting and Biofiltration liquid fertilizer (SCBLF) on biomass growth of Yellow poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera) and to compare bioethanol production from the harvested wood. Relative growth rate, biomass production and leaf characteristics were significantly enhanced by SCBLF treatment and medium treatment plot showed highest value. Nitrogen compounds and water content in SCBLF affected to increase chlorophyll contents which led improving biomass production (64.67%) and glucose contents (6.07%) than control. Organosolv and dilute acid pretreatments were preliminarily carried for bioethanol production, and the pretreatment processes were conducted at all the same solid to liquid ratio (1 : 10), reaction temperature ($150^{\circ}C$), preheating time (40 min) and residence time (10 min). The water insoluble solid recovery of Organosolv pretreatment with 1% sulfuric acid as a catalyst was the lowest and that of medium treatment plot was 44.81%. Exchangeable cations in SCBLF might be affected to increase pretreatment effect. The simultaneous saccharification and fermentation process was followed to determine the ethanol production of the pretreated biomass. The highest ethanol production yield based on initial weight was obtained from high treatment plotby Organosolv pretreatment with 1% sulfuric acid (16.11%). But regarding biomass production, medium treatment plot produced most, and bioethanol production was increased by 72.93% than control.
This study analyzed an economic efficiency of oak mushroom cultivation in order to provide data needed for formulating related policies. 88 farmhouses in major producing areas were interviewed with. The average production cost per 100 bed-logs was 151,699 won. Among production costs, material costs accounted for 56.0% and labor costs 41.8%. Oak mushroom cultivation was labor-intensive and labor input was a significant factor determining the production costs. There was 3 7.2% gap in production costs between Chungbuk, the highest cost area and Gyeonggi, the lowest cost area of oak mushroom due to difference in labor input. Average revenue per 100 bed-logs was 178,627 won. Average income per 100 bed-logs, which is variable production costs of 116,613 won subtracted from the revenue, was 62,014 won and thus income rate was 34.7%. Income rate in Jeonbuk, the highest area, was higher than that in Gyeonggi, the lowest area, by 15.8% points due to difference in quantities produced, grade, and variable production costs, in particular, labor costs. The result of the economic analysis indicates that reduction in establishment and labor costs, accounting for the highest portion in production costs is priority issue for the enhancement of the competitiveness of the oak mushroom industry.
The possibility of employing biomass of Salix viminalis cv. Q683 as a resource of bio-energy was evaluated. The chemical analysis of S. viminalis cv. Q683 leaf biomass showed components such as, extractives (2.57%), lignin (39.06%), hemicellulose (21.61%), and cellulose (37.83%), whereas, its stem was composed of extractives (1.67%), lignin (23.54%), hemicellulose (33.64%), and cellulose (42.03%). The biomass of S. viminalis cv. Q683 was saccharified using two enzymes celluclast and viscozyme. The saccharification of S. viminalis cv. Q683 biomass was influenced by enzymes and their strengths. The optimal enzyme combination was found to be celluclast (59 FPU/g substrate) and viscozyme (24 FBG/g substrate). On saccharification the glucose from leaf and stem biomass was 7.5g/L and 11.7g/L, respectively after 72 hr of enzyme treatment. The biomass and enzyme-treated biomass served as the feedstock for ethanol production by fermentation. The ethanol production from stem and leaf biomass was 5.8 g/L and 2.2 g/L respectively, while the fermentation of the enzymatic hydrolysates yielded 5 g/L to 8 g/L bioethanol in 72 hours.

Aralia cordata (A. cordata), which belongs to Araliaceae, is a perennial herb widely distributed in East Asia. We evaluated the anti-inflammatory effect of stems (AC-S), roots (AC-R) and leaves (AC-L) extracted with 100% methanol of A. cordata and elucidated the potential signaling pathway in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. The AC-L showed a strong anti-inflammatory activity through inhibition of NO production. AC-L dose-dependently inhibited NO production by suppressing iNOS, COX-2 and $IL-{\beta}$ expression in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. AC-L inhibited the degradation and phosphorylation of $I{\kappa}B-{\alpha}$, which donated to the inhibition of p65 nuclear accumulation and $NF-{\kappa}B$ activation. Furthermore, AC-L suppressed the phosphorylation of ERK1/2 and p38. These results suggested that AC-L may utilize anti-inflammatory activity by blocking $NF-{\kappa}B$ and MAPK signaling pathway and indicated that the AC-L can be used as a natural anti-inflammatory drugs.
