This study was conducted to classify forest vegetation structure and stand feature of Mt. Deogyusan National Park from Hyangjeukbong to Jungbong, 48 plots were surveyed. The type classification of the vegetation structure was performed with Z-M phytosociological method. As a result, Quercus mongolica community group was classified into the Picea jezoensis community, Carpinus cordata community and Tilia amurensis community in community unit. P. jezoensis community was subdivided into Deutzia glabrata group and Viburnum opulus var. calvescens group in group unit. D. glabrata group was subdivided into Acer mandshuricum subgroup and Ribes mandshuricum subgroup and V. opulus var. calvescens group was subdivided into Hemerocallis dumortieri subgroup and Prunus padus subgroup in subgroup unit. In the result of estimating the importance value, it constituted Q. mongolica (23.9%), Abies koreana (14.7%), Taxus cuspidata (10.2%), P. jezoensis (8.2%) and Betula ermanii (7.4%) in tree layer. It constituted Acer komarovii (18.6%), Acer pseudosieboldianum (18.4%) and Q. mongolica (8.9%) in subtree layer. It constituted Rhododendron schlippenbachii (20.7%), A. pseudosieboldianum (17.4%) and Symplocos chinensis (8.5%) in shrub layer. Indicator species analysis of vegetation unit 1 was consisted of Hydrangea serrata, Fraxinus mandshurica and D. glabrata that species prefer moist valley in subalpine or rocks. In the results of analyzing the species diversity, vegetation unit 1, 4 and 5 represented that there were different and complex local distributions. As in the similarity between the vegetation units, the vegetation units 1, 2, 3 and 4 represented high with 0.5 or above. It represented that there wasn't no differences on composition species in vegetation units.
A phutosociological study on the Mongolian oak forest was carried out on Mt. Sorak by the Z-M method. The Mongolian oak forest was classified into one oder, two alliances, one assoication and three commuities; Rhododendro-Quercetalia mongolicae Kim 1990 Lindero-Quercion monogolicae Kim 1990 Vaccinium hirtum v. koreanum-Quercus monogolica community Lespedeza maximowiczii-Quercus monogolica community Pino koreiensis-Quercion mongolicae Kim 1992 Typical community Lichno-Quercetrum monofolicae Kim 1992 Total vascular plant species in invesitigatied sites consited of 193 taxa, and their life-form composition was $H-D_1-R_5-e$ type.
Drought alters soil microorganisms; however, it is still not clear how soil microbes respond to severe drought conditions. In this study, the responses of soil bacterial community to experimental drought in a coniferous stand were examined. Six $6m{\times}6m$ plots with three replicates of control and drought treatments were delimited. PCR amplification and Illumina sequencing were conducted for cluster analysis of soil bacterial community and species richness and species diversity was analyzed. Along the 393 days of simulated drought from July 2016 to October 2017, soil bacterial species diversity slightly increased whereas species richness decreased in both control and roof plots. Moreover, soil bacterial species richness more decreased in roof plots than in controls. Combining these results, soil bacterial activity might have been altered by simulated drought.
The forest stands of Seonusan area, South-western Korea, were classified into three alliances and nine communities by the Z-M school scheme. Of these one alliance and four association were recognized in this study, that is, an alliance, Carpinion laxiflorae and four associations, Casrpinetum tschonoskii, Quercetum variabilis, Carpinetum laxiflorae and Rhododendro mucronulati-Pinetum densiflorae. Hierachy of Seonunsan area forest vegetation by Z-M scheme was as fallows: Pinion densiflorae Suz.-Tok. 1966. 1. Rhododendro mucronlati-Pinetum densiflorae ass.l nov., 2. Pinus thunbergii community. Carpinion laxiflorae all. nov., 1. Quercus serrata-Carpinus tschonoskii community, 2. Quercus aliena-Carpinus tschonoskii community, 3, Carp inetum tschonoskii ass. nov., a. Typical subass., b. Sasa borealis subass. 4. Quercetum variabilis ass. nov., a Sasa borealis subass. b. Typical subass, 5. Carpinetum laxiflorae ass. nov., Zelkovion serratae Miyawaki et al., 1977., 1. Orixo-Zelk ovetum serratae Miyawaki et H. Tohma 1975., a Typical subass., b. Thea sinensis facies, 2. Thea sinensis-Camellia japonica community.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the plant community structure and identify the change for 13 years(1983~1996) of forest around Youcheon industrial complex, Korea. 27 plots(300$m^2$/1plot) were established in forest around Youcheon industrial complex. By DCA ordination technique, the 27 plots were classified into five communities, which were Pinus thunbergii community, Pinus thunbergii-Quercus spp. community, P. thunbergii-Eurya japonica community, P. densiflora-P. thunbergii community and P. densiflora community. It seemed that P. thunbergii-Quercus app. community and P. densiflora-P. thunbergii community succeeded to Quercus spp. community and it seemed that P. thunbergii community, P. thunbergii-E. japonica community and P. densiflora community would not be replace by another woody species. Soil pH was pH 4.38~4.61, there were bad soil for organic matters content and exchangeable cations(C $a^{++}$, $Mg^{++}$, $K^{+}$) content. Shannon's diversity, H' max and number of species were improved for 13 years. So did soil characteristics.s.s.s.
This study was conducted to clarify the relationship between bird community and forest structure from early May to mid June, 1988 in two sites which had different forest structures due to silvicultural practice, located in the Tomakomai Experimental Forest of Hokkaido University, Hokkaido, Japan. Quantitative ahbitat analysis was applied to elucidate difference between the two study sites, and territory mapping method and guild analysis were used for assessment of the bird community. Dominant tree species were Quercus mongolica, Magnolia obovata, Prunus sargentii, Acer mono and Tilia japonica. Unithinned site had more foliage coverage in upper and middle layers, but in lower layer had less coverage than thinned site. Thirty four species of birds were recorded and of them only 21 species occupied territories within the study area. Dominant species were Ficedula narcissina, Phylloscopus occipitalis, Parus major, Passer rutilans, Sitta europaea and Parus palustris in the study area. The unmber of breeding species of the two sites were equal, but the species composition of breeding bird communities was different between the sites. The number of species and pairs on hole-nesting guild were greater in the unthinned site, but those on ground-nesting guild were greater in the thinned site. Canopy-nesting guild showed no significant difference between the two sites. Silvicultural practice such as proper thinning appeared to be not inadequate to all of the forest birds, probably good to bush and ground nesting guild, and to tree & bush and ground foraging guild. The silvicultural practice also did not considerably affect the hole and canopy-nesting guild.

This study is aimed at exploring the effects of forest experience activities on promoting children's community spirit. To achieve this, a pre-post survey was empirically carried out with 40 children at Kindergarten A in the city of Chungnam. The comprehensive findings showed a significant difference between the experimental group, which had forest experience activities, and the control group, which had outdoor activities based on the existing Nuri curriculum. Based on a pre-test for intimacy, emotion, mutual public awareness, and participation consciousness as sub-factors of community spirit, which adopted all the research hypotheses, the results suggest that the forest kindergarten will become an educational place for children. Consequently, personality education using nature in forest kindergartens can become an excellent goal, helping to boost the development of children's sensitivity and emotional stability through awakening the five senses; building up self-awareness, self-reliance, and trust; learning consideration and respect for others; and developing positive attitudes, sociality, potential, imagination, and creativity through forest activities with their peers.

This research was to establish the fundamental materials for the preservation and multiple-purpose management of forest vegetation of Dong Hwa Sa area located in the south facing slope of Mt. Pal-Gong. Analysis of forest vegetation of this area was studied by the method of Gentaro Toyohara, based on ZM School method and Pfister. The results obtained were summarized as follows. (1). Forest vegetation in this area divided into mountain forest and valley forest. (2). Mountain forest divided into A. Pinus densiflora community, B. Carpirtus laxiflora community, C. Quercus mongolica community. (3). Valley forest was formed mostly of Zelkova serrata community. (4). Piraus densiflora community divided into 1. Pines densiflora typical group, 2. Pines densiflora-Alnus hirsuta group, 3. Pines densiflora-Ilex macropoda group. (5). Quercus mongolica community divided into 1. Pinus densiflora-Carpinus cordata group, 2. Prunus sargentii-Hydrangea serrata for. acuminata group, (6). Zelkova serrata community divided into 1. Acer mono group, 2. Vine plant group. A vegetation analysis based on concepts and methods developed by Robert, D. Pfister and Gentaro Toyohara was considered to be effective on providing a guiding principle for a multiple-purpose management of forestry and a three-dimensional utilization of forest, but it is not easy for us to utilize such a analysis method because we are not rich in the materials of analysis of vegetation to our forest. Thus, It is necessary that we should collect much materials to various parts of forest in order that may utilize this method of analysis of vegetation.
The present study is aimed to evaluate forest health in a fragmented urban forest using characteristics of insect communities. Ants (Formicidae) and ground beetles (Carabidae) surveyed by pitfall trap method in the Hongneung forest located in the urban area of Seoul were compared with those in the Gwangneung forest. The Gwangneung forest is supposed to be health due to its high biodiversity and well-conserved nature. Ants of the Hongneung forest was much more abundant compared with those of the Gwangneung forest. However, ground beetles showed the opposite patterns; much more abundant in the Gwangneung forest than in the Hongneung forest. Species richness was higher in the Gwangneung forest than in the Hongneung forest, but species diversity was higher in the Hongneung forest. In the Hongneung forest, forest specialist species and generalist species were balanced, whereas few forest specialists dominated in the Gwangneung forest. This dominance decreased species diversity in those Gwangneung forest. Thus, characteristics of insect community in the Hongneung forest were greatly different with those in the Gwangneung forest.
