Nonlinear dynamic analysis of a reinforced concrete (RC) frame under earthquake loading is performed in this paper on the basis of a hysteretic moment-curvature relation. Unlike previous analytical moment-curvature relations which take into account the flexural deformation only with the perfect-bond assumption, by introducing an equivalent flexural stiffness, the proposed relation considers the rigid-body-motion due to anchorage slip at the fixed end, which accounts for more than 50% of the total deformation. The advantage of the proposed relation, compared with both the layered section approach and the multi-component model, may be the ease of its application to a complex structure composed of many elements and on the reduction in calculation time and memory space. Describing the structural response more exactly becomes possible through the use of curved unloading and reloading branches inferred from the stress-strain relation of steel and consideration of the pinching effect caused by axial force. Finally, the applicability of the proposed model to the nonlinear dynamic analysis of RC structures is established through correlation studies between analytical and experimental results.
This article provides a discussion of the mathematic modeling of connections for designing and qualifying structures, systems, and components subject to monotonic or cyclic loading. To characterize the force-deformation behavior of connections under monotonic loading, a review of the Ramberg-Osgood, Richard-Abbott, and Menegotto-Pinto models is conducted, and it is shown that these nonlinear functions can be mathematically derived by scaling up or down a linear force-deformation function. A generalized four-parameter model for simulating connection behavior is investigated to facilitate nonlinear regression analysis. In order to perform seismic analysis of frameworks, a hysteretic model accounting for loading, unloading, and reloading is described using the established monotonic model. For preliminary analysis, a method is provided to quickly determine the model parameters that fit approximately with the observed data. To reach more accurate values of the parameters, the methods of nonlinear regression analysis are investigated and the modified Levenberg-Marquardt and separable nonlinear least-square algorithms are applied in determining the model parameters. Example case studies illustrate the procedure for the computation through the use of experimental/analytical data taken form the literature. Transformation of connection curves from the three-parameter model to the four-parameter model for structural analysis is conducted based on the modeling of connections subject to fire.

An automotive bushing is a device used in automotive suspension systems to reduce the load transmitted from the wheel to the frame of the vehicle. A bushing is a hollow cylinder, which is bonded to a solid steel shaft at its inner surface and a steel sleeve at its outer surface. The relation between the force applied to the shaft and the relative deformation of a bushing is nonlinear and exhibits features of viscoelasticity. In this paper, an automotive bushing is regarded as nonlinear viscoelastic incompressible material. Instron 8801 equipment was used for experimental res earch and ramp-to-constant displacement control test was used for data acquisition. Displacement dependent force relaxation function was obtained from the force extrapolation method and expressed as the explicit combination of time and displacement. Pipkin-Rogers model, which is the direct relation of force and displacement, was obtained and comparison studies between the experimental results and the Pipkin-Rogers results were carried out.

An elastomeric bushing is a device used in automotive suspension systems to cushion the force transmitted from the wheel to the frame of the vehicle. A bushing is an elastomeric hollow cylinder which is bonded to a solid metal shaft at its inner surface and a metal sleeve at its outer suface. The relation between the force applied to the shaft or sleeve and their relative deformation is nolinear and exhibits features of viscoelasticity. Numerical solutions of the boundary value problem represent the exact bushing response for use in the method for determining the force relaxation function of the bushing. The new nonlinear viscoelastic bushing model, which is called Pipkin-Rogers model, is proposed and it is shown that the predictions of the proposed force-displacement relation are in very good agreement with the exact results. This new bushing model is thus very suitable for use in multi-body dynamics codes. The success of the present study for axial mode response suggests that the same approach be applied to other modes, such as torsional or radial modes.

A force-displacement relation for bushings is important for multibody dynamics numerical simulations. For the nonlinear viscoelastic axial response, Pipkin-Rogers model, the direct relation of force and displacement, has been derived from Lianis model and the sinusoidal input was used fer Pipkin-Rogers model, and the affection of displacement with frequency change was studied with Pipkin-Rogers model.
In this report, the contact resistance between "electrode" and "lead" is investigated for reasonable measurements of samples' resistance in a polypyrrole (PPy) nanowire device. The sample's resistance, including "electrode-lead" contact resistance, shows a decrease as force applied to the interface increases. Moreover, the sample's resistance becomes reasonably similar to, or lower than, values calculated by resistivity of PPy reported in previous studies. The decrease of electrode-lead contact resistance by increasing the applying force was analyzed by using Holm theory: the general equation of relation between contact resistance ($R_H$) of two-metal thin films and contact force ($R_H{\propto}1/\sqrt{F}$). The present investigation can guide a reliable way to minimize electrode-lead contact resistance for reasonable characterization of nanomaterials in a microelectrode device; 80% of the maximum applying force to the junction without deformation of the apparatus shows reasonable values without experimental error.

This paper studies the relation between the deformation of platen caused by clamping force, the bending stress and elongation at the tie-bar in injection molding machine of toggle type. These data are analyzed through analytical molding and numerical approach by tensile tester. The effect of bending stress on the stress concentration of teeth and nut system is also analyzed by 2 dimensional numerical approach. The bending stress of tie-bar caused by platen deformation becomes less than 20% of average tensile stress. And the effect of bending stress on stress concentration at teeth and nut system of tie-bar is found to be small.

Underground structures usually consist of rock masses or concretes which can be cracked or have cracks. This study aims to develop an analysis program which can deal with the effect of discontinuous behavior due to those cracks using the block theory. It is assumed that rock masses form blocks along the discontinuity lines, and deformation within the block is relatively small. The behavior of discontinuity plane of the structures is divided into sliding along the discontinuity plane. separation of discontinuity by tensile force, and degradation of asperity angle of discontinuity plane by external force with sliding of rock Basses. These behaviors are implemented using constitutive relation and relevent load-displacement relation defined through normal and shear stiffnesses. Time varying displacements and block velocities are calculated by explicit time stepping algorithm. The effect of rock supports including rockbolts is also considered, and the tending effects which occurs in relatively thin lining is also considered.

A moment-curvature relationship to simulate the behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) columns under cyclic loading is introduced. Unlike previous moment-curvature models and the layered section approach, the unposed model takes into account the bond-slip effect by using a monotonic moment-curvature relationship constructed on the basis of the bond-slip relation and corresponding equilibrium equation at each nodal point. In addition, the use of curved unloading and reloading branches inferred from the stress-strain relation of steel gives more exact numerical result. The pinching enact caused by axial force is considered with an assumption that the absorbing energy corresponding to any deformation level maintains constant regardless of the magnitude of applied axial force. The advantages of the proposed model, comparing tn layered section approach, may be on the reduction in calculation time and memory space in case of its application to large structures.. Finally, correlation studies between analytical results and experimental studies are conducted to establish the validity of the proposed mood.

Initial thermo-elastic and steady state creep deformation of a rotating functionally graded simple blade is studied using first-order shear deformation theory. A variable thickness model for cantilever beam has been considered. The blade geometry and loading are defined as functions of length so that one can define his own blade profile and loading using any arbitrary function. The blade is subjected to a transverse distributed load, an inertia body force due to rotation and a distributed temperature field due to a thermal gradient between the tip and the root. All mechanical and thermal properties except Poisson's ratio are assumed to be longitudinally variable based on the volume fraction of reinforcement. The creep behaviour is modelled by Norton's law. Considering creep strains in stress strain relation, Prandtl-Reuss relations, Norton' law and effective stress relation differential equation in term of effective creep strain is established. This differential equation is solved numerically. By effective creep strain, steady state stresses and deflections are obtained. It is concluded that reinforcement particle size and form of distribution of reinforcement has significant effect on the steady state creep behavior of the blade.
