To calculate the vibrations of a tout cable subjected to axial support excitations, a nonlinear relationship of cable force and the support displacement under static situations are employed to depict the quasi-static vibration of the cable. The dynamic components of quasi-static vibration are inputted as "direct loads" to cause the parametric vibrations on the cable. Both the governing equations of motion and deformation compatibility for parametric vibrations are then derived, which indicates the high coupling of cable parametric force and deformation. Numerical solutions, based on the finite difference method, are put forward for the parametric vibrations, which is validated by the finite element method under periodic axial support excitations. For the quasi-static response, the shorter cables are more sensitive to support excitations than longer ones at small cable force. The quasi-static cable force makes the greatest contribution to the total cable force, but the parametric cable force is responsible for the occurrence of cable loosening at large excitation amplitudes. Moreover, this study also revealed that the traditional approach, assuming a linear relationship between quasi-static cable force and axial support displacement, would result in some great error of the cable parametric responses.

The major factors which affect the crankshaft axial vibration are such items as the axial stiffness and mass of crankshaft, the thrust block stiffness, the propeller's entrained water and the exciting and damping forces of engine, propeller and shafting. Among above mentioned items, the axial stiffness and mass of crankshaft, thrust block stiffness and propeller's entrained water were treated in detail in part I, and so in this paper, the rest of above items will be studied. The exciting forces of crankshaft axial vibration are generated mainly from the gas explosion pressure of cylinder, the thrust fluctuation of propeller, and sometimes the torsional vibration of crankshaft induces the crankshaft axial vibration. As for the propeller thrust fluctuation, its harmonic components can be fairly exactly calculated from the experimental results of propeller in the towing tank, but as the calculation process is rather tedious and laborious, the empirical values are ordinarily used. On the other hand, the table of harmonic components of gas pressure has been already published by major slow speed diesel engine makers, but the axial thrust conversion factor of radial force is not unknown yet, and as its estimated value is unreliable, the axial vibration force of gas pressure is uncertain. As the calculation of damping force is very complicated and it includes some uncertain factors, the thoretically estimated amplitudes of axial vibration are much more incorrect in comparison with those of torsional vibrations. Authors have paid special attentions to deriving the theoretical calculation formula of axial conversion factor of radial force and damping force of crankshaft axial vibration and developed a computer program to calculate resonance amplitudes and additional stresses of crankshaft axial vibrations. Also, to check the reliability of the developed computer program, the axial vibrations of three ships' propulsion shaftings were analyzed and their results were compared with those of measured values and makers' results.

In order to predict structural vibration and radiated noise of high-voltage transformer in operation, it is necessary to precisely find the excitation force generated by the coils and core. However, finding the excitation force through experiments of high voltage transformer in operation is not possible. Therefore, this paper deals with identifying the excitation force by using the acceleration data measured through experiments and the transfer function estimated through finite element model. A method to predict structural vibration and radiated noise was also proposed. Three-phase windings and the core are the source of high-voltage transformer. The excitation forces were identified using the acceleration data and the transfer function of the surface of the tank. Structural vibration and radiated noise from the surface of the tank was predicted by using the identified excitation force. As a result of the interpretation of the experimental and computational analysis of structural vibration from the surface of the tank and radiated noise from the field point, the interpretation of the computational analysis showed relatively good accordance with the experiment.

In the development of very high head pumped storage projects, one of the critical problems is the strength of pumpturbine runners. Data obtained by stress measurements of high head pump-turbine runners indicated that dynamic stress due to the vibration of runner might be detrimental, possibly to cause fatigue failure, if the runner were designed without proper consideration on its dynamic behaviour. Numerous field stress measurements of runners and model tests conducted with hydrodynamic similarity revealed that the hydraulic excitation force developed by the interference of rotating runner blades with guide vane wakes sometimes would induce such heavy vibration of runner. Theoretical and experimental investigations on both the hydraulic excitation force and the natural frequencies of runner have been conducted to explore this forced vibration problem.

The rotor blade of a helicopter is the key structural units and provides three components such as vertical lifting force, horizontal propulsive force and control force. With advancements in aerospace technology, composite materials have been widely used in lightweight structures. In addition, composites show great potential on the design of rotor blades due to the advantages of strength, durability and weight of the materials. In the operational condition of a helicopter, it is required the vibration characteristics of the rotating blades for avoiding resonance and analysis of efficient performance prediction et al. In this study, the CAMRAD-II is used for analyzing the vibration characteristics of rotating composite blades. The effects of rotating speed and collective angles are investigated. Also, the numerical results are compared with experimental data.

Currently, Atomic Force Microscope(AFM) has been widely used to measure the surface topography of a sample by detecting interaction force between atoms on the sample and extremely sharp probe tip. The vertical resolution of AFM is mainly determined by external vibration noise. The resolution of AFM shows different values for the different environment, thus it is necessary to determine relationship between the criteria and the resolution of AFM regardless of environment. In this paper, we discuss the allowable level of floor vibration for AFM equipment at given resolution. The vibration criteria can be used as reference data to design mechanical structure and to analyze the structural dynamics of AFM equipment.

In four cylinder engine, the second order inertia force occurs due to the reciprocating parts of the cylinder. Because the magnitude of the inertia force is proportional to a square of the angular velocity of crank shaft, engine gets suffered from vibration excited by unbalanced inertia force in high speed. This vibration excited by the unbalanced inertia force can be canceled by applying a balance shaft. Balance shaft has one or more unbalance mass and rotates twice quickly than the crank shaft. In this paper, an unbalanced force caused by the rotating of unbalance mass of balance shafts was calculated. The directional equivalent stiffness and damping coefficients of the journal bearing of balance shafts was calculated. Equations of rotational vibration modes were derived using directional stiffness and damping coefficients. The dynamic stability of balance shafts was analyzed and evaluated for two type models using the equivalent stiffness and damping coefficients. An efficient procedure to he able to evaluate dynamic stability and design optimal balance shaft was proposed.

A rigid body supported by 4 linear springs has been analyzed, to investigate the effects of eccentricities on the vibration responses for naval shipboard equipments supported by elastic mounts. Considering mount eccentricity (the location of the center of spring reaction forces relative to the mass center) and excitation force eccentricity (the location of the center of the excitation force relative to the mass center), the vibration phenomena have been formulated and discussed. Also, the effects of the eccentricities have been evaluated and discussed for the elastically mounted naval shipboard equipment. Results show that the mount eccentricity has little effects on the structure-borne noise above the natural frequency of the system, however the excitation force eccentricity has significant effects all over the frequency range.

Rotatory two-phase transverse flux machine(TFM) is a relatively new type of motor with high power density, high torque, and low speed in comparison to conventional electrical motors. However, it has some shortcomings,.i.e. complex construction and high possibility of the magnetically induced vibration due to its inherent structure. This paper investigates the characteristics of the magnetic force and the torque in the rotatory two-phase TFM by using the 3-D finite element method and the spectral analysis. This research shows that the average torque decreases and that the torque ripple increases as the phase delay increases. It also shows that the unbalanced magnetic force is one of the dominant excitation forces in this machine. And it proposes a new topology of rotatory two-phase TFM to eliminate the unbalanced magnetic force.

A new linearization model for MR dampers is analyzed. The nonlinear hysteretic damping force model of MR damper can be modeled as a hyperbolic tangent function of currents, positions, and velicities, which is an algebraic function with constant parameters. Model parameters can be identified with numerical method using experimental force-velocity-position data obtained from various operating conditions. The nonlinear hysteretic damping force can be linearized with a given slope of damping coefficient if there exist corresponding currents to compensate for the nonlinearity. The corresponding currents can be calculated from the inverse model when the given linear damping force is set equal to the nonlinear hysteretic damping force. The linearization controller is realized in a DSP controller such that the corresponding currents to satisfy a given damping coefficient should be calculated. Experiments show that the current inputs to the MR damper produce linearized damping force with a given slope of the damping coefficient.
