파랑중에서 전진하는 선박의 부가저항 해석 (Analysis of added resistance of a ship advancing in waves)

  • This paper presents theoretical formulations and numerical computations for predicting first-and second-order hydrodynamic force on a ship advvancing in waves. The theoretical formulation leads to linearized radiation and diffration problems solving the three-dimensional Green function integral equations over the mean wetted body surface. Green function representing a translating and pulsating source potantial for infinite water depth is used. In order to solve integral equations for three dimentional flows using Green function efficiently, the Hoff's method is adopted for numerical calculation of the Green function. Based on the first-order solution, the mean seconder-order forces and moments are obtained by directly integrating second-order pressure over the mean wetted body surface. The calculated items are carried out for analyzing the seakeeping characteristics of Series 60. The calculated items are hydrodynamic coefficients, wave exciting forces, frequency response functions and addd resistance in waves.

  • The study on the interaction forces of some biological materials is important to understanding biological phenomena and their application to practical purpose. This paper introduces a measuring technique for biological adhesive forces using the AFM(Atomic Force Microscope). Since no standardized thesis on adhesive forces exist, the adhesive forces is defined as adhesive forces against a hardened surface of biological materials. To grant the results are meaningful, which is based on the understanding the surface characteristics of biological materials using the AFM, a nominal value of average adhesive force per unit area should be measured. Therefore the modified AFM probe with small micro glass bead was proposed so that it can guarantee the required contact area for measuring the average adhesive forces. A pyrex glass substrate with circular patterns, which was fabricated by micromachining technique, is introduced in order to controll the contact area. The two types of mussel adhesive proteins, Celltak and recombinant-MGFP5, were tested by the proposed measuring method. The test results show that the adhesive force of the mussel adhesive proteins can be reliably measured by use of this method.

파인 세라믹스의 초음파 진동절삭에 관한 연구 (A study on the ultrasonic vibration cutting properties of fine ceramics)

  • Conventional cutting(CC) and Ultrasonic Vibration Cutting(UVC) of 20[KHz] are practised with standard lathe for fine ceramics(A1$_{2}$O$_{3}$. UVC is suggested to good cutting method for difficult-to-machine-materials and it is known to excellent cutting method to super precision cutting and elevation of productibility for general, nonferrous matals. In this research, main results to be obtained are as follows: 1. From the CC and UVC results by general lathe with sintering diamond tool, the surface roughness and roundness are improved in UVC. Also tool life is longer in UVC than CC. From the observation of machined surface, it is found that brittle fracutural material remove occured in fine ceramics cutting. 2. It is verified that the thrust force is the biggest in fine ceramics cutting, principal force is the next, and feed rate force the third and it is appear a little, on the other hand the principal force is the biggest in metal cutting, feed rate frece is the second, and thrust force is the next.

정방형 실린더 주위 유동패턴에 대한 자유수면의 영향 (EFFECTS OF THE FREE SURFACE ON THE FLOW PATTERN PAST A SQUARE CYLINDER)

  • The characteristics of flow past a square cylinder submerged under the free surface have been numerically studied. An immersed boundary method was adopted for implementation of the cylinder cross-section in a Cartesian grid system. Also, a level-set method was used to capture the interface of the two fluids. The case for Reynolds number 150 was examined. At the specific Reynolds number, by varying the gap ratio(0.25, 0.40, 0.55, 0.70, 1.00, 1.50, 2.50, 5.00) the effects of the free surface on the force coefficients and Strouhal number of vortex shedding were identified. The presence of the free surface very close to the cylinder significantly affects the shedding pattern, resulting in considerable deviation of the force coefficients and Strouhal number from those of the single-phase flow. In addition, the influence of Froude number was considered in this study. By increasing Froude number(0.2-0.4), flow topology change was identified at the specific gap ratios(0.40, 0.70, 1.50, 5.00).

  • Recently, lightweight materials such as Ti alloys have been used increasingly in the aerospace and high-tech industries for weight loss and fuel efficiency. Because of built-up edges and workpiece deflection due to low stiffness, the Ti alloys have poor machinability. In our study, systematic experiments were conducted to investigate the milling characteristics of the Ti alloy (Ti-6A1-4V) with endmills. The independent variables in the experiment were spindle speed, feed per tooth, and axial depth. Cutting force, acceleration RMS, and surface roughness were measured. Using the response surface method, the optimal cutting conditions were analyzed to improve machining quality and productivity.

Research on the tightening strategy of bolted flange for contact stiffness of joint surface

  • During bolted flange assembly, the contact stiffness of some areas of the joint surface may be low due to the elastic interaction. In order to improve the contact stiffness at the lowest position of bolted flange, the correlation model between the initial bolt pre-tightening force and the contact stiffness of bolted flange is established in this paper. According to the stress distribution model of a single bolt, an assumption of uniform local contact stiffness of bolted flange is made. Moreover, the joint surface is divided into the compressive stress region and the elastic interaction region. Based on the fractal contact theory, the relationship model of contact stiffness and contact force of the joint surface is proposed. Considering the elastic interaction coefficient method, the correlation model of the initial bolt pre-tightening force and the contact stiffness of bolted flange is established. This model can be employed to reverse determine the tightening strategy of the bolt group according to working conditions. As a result, this provides a new idea for the digital design of tightening strategy of bolt group for contact stiffness of bolted flange. The tightening strategy of the bolted flange is optimized by using the correlation model of initial bolt pre-tightening force and the contact stiffness of bolted flange. After optimization, the average contact stiffness of the joint surface increased by 5%, and the minimum contact stiffness increased by 6%.

절삭력 간접측정을 위한 정계모터 전류의 특성 연구 (Investigation on the Characteristics of the Stationary Feed Motor Current)

  • Since cross-feed directional cutting force which is normal to machined surface directly influences the machined surface of the workpiece and total force loaded in cutter, it is necessary to estimate this force to control the roughness of the machined surface and total force in cutter. However, there have been difficulties in using the current existing in a stationary motor for cutting state prediction because of some unpredictable behavior of the current. Empirical approach was conducted to resolve the problem. As a result, we showed that the current and its unpredictable behavior are related to the infinitesimal rotation of the motor. Subsequently, the relationship between the current and the cutting force was identified with the error less than 50%. And, the estimation results of the two machine tools with different characteristics were compared to each other to confirm the validity of the presented estimation method and the characteristics of current of the stationary feed motor.

온라인 방식의 공구경로 계획을 내장한 지능형 NURBS 곡면 보간 시스템 (Intelligent NURBS Surface Interpolation System with Embedded Online Tool-Path Planning)

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the machining of free-formed NURBS surfaces using newly defined G-codes which can directly deal with shapes defined from CAD/CAM programs on a surface basis and specialize in rough and finish cut. To this purpose, a NURBS surface interpolation system is proposed in this paper. The proposed interpolation system includes online tool-path planning, real-time interpolation and feedrate regulation considering an effective machining method and minimum machining time all suitable for unit NURBS surface machining. The corresponding algorithms are simultaneously executed in an online manner. The proposed NURBS surface interpolation system is integrated and implemented with a PC-based 3-axis CNC milling system. A graphic user interface (GUI) and a 3D tool-path viewer which interprets the G-codes for NURBS surfaces and displays whole tool-paths are also developed and included in our real-time control system. The proposed system is evaluated through actual machining in terms of size of NC data, machining time, regulation of feedrate and cutting force focused on finish cut in comparison with the existing method.

절삭력 최적화를 이용한 금형의 생산성 및 표면조도 향상에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Improvement of Productivity and Surface Roughness in Mold Machining using the Optimization of Cutting Force)

  • The mold is widely used for mass production in present industry. Also, product cycle time is faster, for this request, high productivity improvement in mold machining is required. And, In case of mold manufacturing company, the delivery shortening is required to quickly manufacture new product. Therefore, we aim for the delivery shortening though the method of machining time shortening in mold machining. On this paper, first, we made the NC-code of Insert die-casting as the object model using PowerMill. And then, analyzed cutting force by Toolpath in Insert mold machining using Production Module of Advantedge which is cutting force analysis program. After that, we came up with the optimum conditions of productivity improvement throughout the analysis result of before and after optimization of cutting force, machining time variation, and surface roughness by changing min tangential force to 80, 85, 90% of max tangential force.

  • Study for toner adhesion is 3non as an important role in electrophotography. In this research, a centrifugal detachment method was used to measure the adhesion force of several hundred particles simultaneously and to determine its sensitivity to particle size. For uncharged toner particles, we estimated the van der Waals force based on the centrifugal force experiments. Then for charged toner particles, the centrifugal force experiments were carried out. The difference between the results for charged toner particles and the results for uncharged toner particles was compared with the image force calculated from a model which assumed that the toner charge was located at the center of the particle. In the calculations, experimental data obtained by E-SPART (Electrical-Single Particle Aerodynamic Relaxation Time) analyzer were used. The adhesion force of micro-sized toner particles deposited on the DR surface was found to be approximately $1{\sim}3$ nN.
