Uncomfortable feelings of occupants by indoor floor impact noise in a residential building are not accurately represented by the floor impact noise from a standard impact source. It is due to the characteristics of standard impact sources, which are different from the impact forces produced by occupants. It varies significantly by impact source, and it is not easy to be replicated for testing. As a result, the indoor floor impact noise under different acoustic conditions cannot be directly compared. Using frequency response function(FRF), which represents the input-output relationships of a dynamic system, it is possible to examine the characteristics of the system. Especially, FRF can predict the response of a linear dynamic system subjected to various excitation. To determine the relationship between impact force and the corresponding response of dynamic system in residential building, the acceleration response of a concrete slab and the floor impact noise in the living room, produced by bang-machine and rubber-ball excitation, were measured. The test results are compared to the estimates based on FRF and impact force spectrum.

This study is to estimate the ventilation volume by the traffic that originated from driving automobiles for two tunnels (Kugi tunnel and Kumhwa tunnel) that adopted natural ventilation system among tunnels of Seoul, and on the basis of which, we estimated the ventilation velume at various conditions. With the result of the estimation, we will present the basic method that can be operated with the optimum condition for the ventilation system. Estimating the predicted ventilation volume in the tennel by the pollutant concentration, we used traffic volume and CO emission data by the automobile speed and CO concentration in the tunnel. And, when we estimated the traffic ventilation volume by natural and traffic ventilation force, we used traffic volume, automobile speed, tunnel area, automobile area data and so on. As the result of simple regression between predicted ventilation volume and traffic ventilation volume, we attained the regression coefficient 0.88, and achieved the relation form that predicted ventilation volume equal 0.12x traffic ventilation volume-92, 000. Using this equation, we estimated the ventilation volume to satisfy the enviromnental standards of several space, and calculated the required volume for mechanical ventilation. Incase of Kumhwa Tunnel, there is a need of mechanical ventilation all day long to satisfy air quality standard 9 ppm for 8 hours average and 10 ppm for the indoor air quality standard of public facilities.
As semiconductor device architecture develops, from planar field-effect transistors (FET) to FinFET and gate-all-around (GAA), there is an increased need to measure 3D structure sidewalls precisely. Here, we present a 3-Dimensional Atomic Force Microscope (3D-AFM), a powerful 3D metrology tool to measure the sidewall roughness (SWR) of vertical and undercut structures. First, we measured three different dies repeatedly to calculate reproducibility in die level. Reproducible results were derived with a relative standard deviation under 2%. Second, we measured 13 different dies, including the center and edge of the wafer, to analyze SWR distribution in wafer level and reliable results were measured. All analysis was performed using a novel algorithm, including auto fattening, sidewall detection, and SWR calculation. In addition, SWR automatic analysis software was implemented to reduce analysis time and to provide standard analysis. The results suggest that our 3D-AFM, based on the tilted Z scanner, will enable an advanced methodology for automated 3D measurement and analysis.

Drilling operation is such an important machining process, which has been wildly applied to the industry, occupied over 30% of whole industry. However, there are many aspects of drilling process should be improved, such as increases of thrust force, surface roughness, and roundness, ect. In this study, we are aiming to reduce the thrust force, surface roughness, and roundness in drilling process. For this purpose, multi facet drills (MFD) of three types that are modified from standard drill (STD) are developed. The first type is multi stair drill (MSD) with shape of stair on relief plane. The second type is rough facet drill (RFD) with shape of round on relief plane. The third type is rough flute drill (RFLD) with shape of round on flute plane. For three types of MFD, we were carried out performance evaluation from the perspective of thrust force, surface roughness and roundness of machined hole. From obtained result, we could confirmed that performance of rough flute drill (RFLD) type is most excellent.
A number of screws are inevitably used for tightening flanges in constructing a vacuum system. A theoretical relation between the axial force and the torque exerted on a screw is easily obtained assuming that the friction force generated on the contacting plane is known, however, in practice the friction is influenced strongly by unknown detailed surface condition. It is difficult to tighten optimally and uniformly the flange seals if the screws commercially available have undefined surface conditions and scattered dimensions, and the axial force produced by the screws can not be expected properly. In this paper a scatter of the axial force over screws and the deviation from an expected one, depending on various fastening conditions, are investigated using a variety of M8, the most popular size for vacuum flanges, domestic stainless screws of hexagonal head and standard thread.

In this study, the impact force levels of bang machine and impact ball were measured, then the heavy-weight impact sounds generated by the bang machine and impact ball were investigated. It was found that the heavy-weight impact sources generated through modal excitation, and the impact force of the impact ball was similar to that of real impact source. The heavy-weight impact sounds were also measured in the real apartments with different slab thickness and floor structures. The results showed that the floor impact sound levels in terms of $L_{iFmax,AW}$, generated by impact ball sounds were reduced by using the resilient isolators. The frequency characteristics of heavy-weight impact sounds at 125 and 250 Hz were consistent with the characteristics of impact force spectrum. However, the difference between the impact sounds and the impact forces were found at 63 and 500 Hz due to the resonance of the floor structure and flanking noise, respectively.
The paper presents a new approach for the analysis of slope stability that is based on the numerical solution of a differential equation, which describes the thrust force distribution within the potential sliding mass. It is based on the evaluation of the thrust force value at the endpoint of the slip line. A coupled approximation of the slip and thrust lines is applied. The model is based on subdivision of the sliding mass into slices that are normal to the slip line and the equilibrium differential equation is obtained as the slice width approaches zero. Opposed to common iterative limit equilibrium procedures the present method is straightforward and gives an estimate of slope stability at the value of the safety factor prescribed in advance by standard requirements. Considering the location of the thrust line within the soil mass above the trial slip line eliminates the possible development of a tensile thrust force in the stable and critical states of the slope. The location of the upper boundary point of the thrust line is determined by the equilibrium of the upper triangular slice. The method can be applied to any smooth shape of a slip line, i.e., to a slip line without break points. An approximation of the slip and thrust lines by quadratic parabolas is used in the numerical examples for a series of slopes.
This study was carried out to help the comprehensive rehabilitation of spinal cord injuries by measuring propulsion force and endurance exerted on wheelchair handrims, and predicting the differences among three different rear axle positions. The BTE (Baltimore Therapeutic Exerciser) work simulator was used on 9 paraplegia to test the force and endurance during wheelchair propulsion. The 141 large wheel of the BTE work simulator and a standard wheelchair with removed handrims were used for simulating wheelchair propulsion. The neurological and demographical characteristics of the patients were collected by personal interviews and direct examinations. The Kruskal-Wallis test was used to compare force and endurance among the groups. The strongest maximum isometric strength was produced when the rear axle of the wheelchair and the acromion process were on the same coronal plane. Although there were no significant differences statistically, moving the rear axle forward did result in greater isotonic strength. The research suggests that better functional activity of persons with paraplegia is possible when the rear axle of the wheelchair is appropriately adjusted.

The objective of this study was to compare micro-scale friction coefficients with and without synovial fluid, and micro-scale measurements were performed using atomic force microscopy (AFM) with a $5{\mu}m$ spherical probe. Four cylindrical cartilage specimens were harvested from two fresh bovine humeral heads (4-6 months old). $Average{\pm}standard$ deviation values of the micro-scale AFM frictional coefficients calculated from the liner fit of friction versus normal force was $0.177{\pm}0.012$ and $0.130{\pm}0.010$ with and without synovial fluid coating on AFM probe respectively, showing its reduction by ${\sim}27%$ with synovial fluid. To the best of our knowledge, this experimental study investigates the first such comparisons of frictional response of articular cartilage with and without synovial fluid coating on AFM probe, and provides significant insights into the role of synovial fluid in the articular cartilage friction and lubrication independently of the confounding effect of fluid pressurization in the articular cartilage.
In most industry, manual GTAW welding is preferred for formation of stable back bead in root weld of butt joint. However, manual GTAW welding has low productivity as compared with GMAW, also it has unstable bead quality which depend on skilled workers. So it is necessary to develop process of root pass welding by using automation GMAW that have stable back bead formation and high productivity. In this paper, the design of U-groove with 3mm root face was applied to extend the tolerance of misalignment in condition of standard root gap 1.5mm. Consequently, for the formation of stable back bead in root pass of butt welding, in case of the narrow root gap(0.5mm) the large arc force was applied by increasing the current and voltage. In case of the large root gap(2.5mm), the small arc force was applied by decreasing the current and voltage. Considering the various root gap, the required deposited metal was controlled by welding speed only.
