  • The study was carried out to investigate the effects of morphology, reproductive cycle, incubation time and activation of oocytes on in vitro maturation of cat oocytes and development of IVM/IVF embryos. 1. When recovered from ovaries collected at different stages of the reproductive cycle (inactive, follicular and luteal stage), the developmental rates of oocytes to GV and MI stage were 72.5% and 27.5%, 57.5% and 7.5%, 62.5% and 17.5%, respectively. Birth of Calf Following Transfer of Bovine Embryos Produced by Maturation, Fertilization and Development In Vitro with Korean Native Cattle Semen (한우정액 유래 체외수정 송아지 생산에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this study was to produce calves derived from in vitro fertilization of in vitro matured follicular oocytes. Oocytes aspirated from small antral folicles of ovaries obtained at a local slaughter house were matured and fertilized in vitro. At l8hrs after insemination with Korean native cattle semen, oocytes were co-cultured for 6~7 days by utilizing co-culture system with bovine oviduct epithelial cell. After co-culture, good or excellent quality late morulae or early blastocysts were selected by morphological criteria under stereo microscope. Selected embryos were transferred to recipients on day 6 or 7 (estrus = day 0). Recipients were monitored by observation for estrus and rectal palpation after 60 days from embryo transfer. One of them went to term with the birth of a calf. This case is the first production of calf derived from in vitro fertilization in Korea.

  • Sexing and developing from splitted embryos which were fertilized in vitro implicate a possibility of production of the superior and sex controlled individuals. This study was carried out to investigate the production of transferable late blastocysts from in vitro fertilized embryos and to analyze sex by chromosome analysis from same embryos. In results, the ratio of cleavage and fertility of bovine follicular oocytes matured in vitro was 90% in co-cultured with granulosa cells. The competence of embryonic development from in vitro matured and fertilized bovine oocytes was 38% in co-cultured with bovine oviductal epithelial cells. To produce a lot of transferable embryos, therefore, the best conditon of culture system was co-cultured with granulosa cells for immature bovine oocytes and then co-cultured with bovine oviductal eptithelial cells for matured and fertilized oocytes. In chromosome analysis, 93% of in vitro fertilized embryos were very important aspect in chromosome preparation from bovine embryos such as duration of colcemid treatment, weakening of zona pellucida, methods of hypotonic treatment and fixation treatment.

Chronic suppurative osteomyelitis with proliferative periostitis related to a fully impacted third molar germ: a report of two cases

  • In prolonged chronic osteomyelitis, chronic inflammation and low-grade infections can result in new periosteal bone formation. Chronic osteomyelitis with proliferative periostitis (traditionally termed $Garr{\acute{e}^{\prime}s$ sclerosing osteomyelitis) mainly affects children and young adults. Here, we present two rare cases of an 11-year-old and a 12-year-old patient with suppurative chronic osteomyelitis with proliferative periostitis without any definitive infection source, such as dental caries or periodontitis. The source of infection was likely to be related to the development of a lower right third molar germ with follicular space widening. Management involved antibiotics and the removal of the third molar germ and surgical debridement. Disease remission and a normal appearance was observed at the six-month follow-up visit.

  • Obesity rates are increasing worldwide, associated with excess acute and chronic disease risk. In most countries, obesity rates among women exceed rates in men, particularly during the post menopausal years. Many factors affect body weight and appetite, including age, metabolic rate, physical activity level, stress, cultural factors, socioeconomic status, health status and health literacy, diet composition, attitudes, and beliefs. Gender affects appetite and body weight indirectly by altering factors contributing to food choice. However, there is emerging evidence that gender affects appetite and body weight directly, altering the physiological control systems regulating appetite. The follicular menstrual cycle phase (estrogen-rich) is associated with relative suppression of appetite. Lower estrogen levels are associated with increased food intake, body weight gain, and altered body fat distribution in humans and animals. This paper reviews the linkages between estrogen and appetite regulation. While relationships among appetite, body weight, and gender-linked hormones are complex, research elucidating these interrelationships could lead to development of gender-specific treatment approaches for obesity and appetite dysregulation.

In vitro system, LR and FSR accelerated and facilitated meiotic progression, and LH selectively improved cytoplasmic maturation which is required to promote the formation of a male pronucleus. 2. Caffeine (2mM) in the fetilization medium was required not only for inducing zona penetrating ability of boar also for developing to the male pronucleus of the penetrat- ing spermatozoa in vitro. 3. The germinal vesicle (GV)stage was observed for the first 17.6 hr;germinal vesicle break-down (GVBD)stage between 17.6~26.4 hr ;metaphase I (M-I)from 26.4 - 30. 9hr;anaphase I(A-I)ranged from 30. 9~33.4hr;telophase I(T-I) at 33.4~34.4hr; and metaphase II(M-II) at 34.4-48hr. 4. The addition of 10%(v /v) pig follicular fluid (pFF) to maturation media significantly increased the rate of nuclear maturation of pig oocytes (p<0.01), whereas the rate of nuclear maturation of pig oocytes among three different media did not differ. 5. The presence of a primary culture of POEC promotes in vitro development of early cleavage stage pig embryos.

  • The incidence of atherosclerosis is higher among patients with several autoimmune diseases such as psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). It is well documented that innate immune cells including macrophages and dendritic cells sense lipid species such as saturated fatty acids and oxidized low-density lipoprotein and produce pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. However, whether a hyperlipidemic environment also impacts autoimmune T cell responses has been unclear. Among $CD4^+$ T cells, Th17 and follicular helper T (Tfh) cells are known to play pathogenic roles in the development of hyperlipidemia-associated autoimmune diseases. This review gives an overview of the cellular and molecular mechanisms by which dysregulated lipid metabolism impacts the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases, with specific emphasis on Th17 and Tfh cells.
