  • This paper presents the design and dynamic analysis of surface-mounted type variable flux permanent magnet(VFPM) machines. VFPM machines with a low-coercive-force (LCF) magnetic material have been studied extensively for their potential to improve the efficiency and extend the flux-weakening range of permaennt magnet (PM) machines. In order to implement the design of the VFPM machines effectively, we perform a characteristic analysis of the LCF magnet with respect to design parameters. The analysis results of the designed VFPM machines are compared with measured results, and the validity of the design of the VFPM machines is confirmed.

  • This paper deals with the comparison of magnetic characteristics in transverse flux rotary machine according to different stator core composition with the same rotor. Three different stator designs are considered in the analysis according to the material composition of inner and outer stator cores. Electromotive force (EMF), inductance, torque, and core losses are calculated by threedimensional finite element analysis. Calculated and measured results of back-EMF according to the analysis models in dependency on speed are presented.

  • We have systematically studied the superconducting properties and flux pinning enhancement of $(Y_{0.33}Sm_{0.33}Nd_{0.33})\;Ba_2Cu_3O_y$ [(YSN)-123] composite oxides by melt growth process in air. A sample prepared by this method showed well-textured microstructure, and $(Y_{0.33}Sm_{0.33}Nd_{0.33})\;BaCuO_5$ [(YSN)211] nonsuperconducting particles were uniformly dispersed in large (YSN) 123 superconducting matrix. The sample showed a sharp superconducting transition at 91 K. The magnetization measurements of the (YSN)-123 sample exhibited the enhanced flux pinning, compared with $YBa_2Cu_3O_y$ (Y-123) sample without Sm and Nd. Critical current densities of (YSN)-123 sample was $2.5{\times}10^4 A/cm^2$ at 2 T and 77 K.

  • We have fabricated superconductor ceramics by chemical process. A high Tc superconductor with a nominal composition of $Bi_2Sr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_y$ was prepared by the organic metal salts method. Experimental results suggest that the intermediate phase formed before the formation of the superconductor phase may be the most important factor. The relation between electromagnetic properties of Bi HTS and external applied magnetic field was studied. The electrical resistance of the superconductor was increased by the application of the external magnetic field. But the increase in the electrical resistance continues even after the removal of the magnetic field. The reason is as follows; the magnetic flux due to the external magnetic field penetrates through the superconductor and the penetrated magnetic flux is trapped after the removal of the magnetic flux.

  • The magnetic properties in YBCO superconducting materials were studied. In the measurement of I-V properties, it was cleared that the mechanism of magnetic properties could not be explained by using conventional flux theory. By changing the density of external magnetic flux, changes in current voltage characteristics in which a superconducting material were also measured. The results showed that the magnetic flux is generated by a vortex current which circulates around the vortex with a sense of rotation opposite to that of the diamagnetic screening surface current. When the external magnetic field was applied to the superconducting magnetometer, some regions of the magnetometer will be destroyed, especially the weak link regions and the defect regions.

  • The internal temperature will change depending on operation conditions and material of cyclone dust collector. This study compares the results of collection efficiency and temperature distribution on the different heat flux at wall of dust collector. The previous researcher's experiment results were used to confirm the reliability of CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) model. Based on this verified CFD model, we extended the analysis on the cyclone dust collectors. In CFD study, we used RNG k-epsilon model for analysis of turbulence flow, fluid is air, the velocity at inlet is 10 m/s, the temperature of air is $600^{\circ}C$. Because of the difference of outer vortex and inner vortex temperature, the collection efficiency will reduce with the increase of heat flux, showed the highest collection efficiency at heat insulation.

  • The Critical Heat Flux (CHF) of water with dispersed alumina nanoparticles was measured for the geometry and flow conditions relevant to the In-Vessel Retention (IVR) situation which can occur during core melting sequences in certain advanced Light Water Reactors (LWRs). CHF measurements were conducted in a flow boiling loop featuring a test section designed to be thermal-hydraulically similar to the vessel/insulation gap in the Westinghouse AP1000 plant. The effects of orientation angle, pressure, mass flux, fluid type, boiling time, surface material, and surface state were investigated. Results for water-based nanofluids with alumina nanoparticles (0.001% by volume) on stainless steel surface indicate an average 70% CHF enhancement with a range of 17% to 108% depending on the specific flow conditions expected for IVR. Experiments also indicate that only about thirty minutes of boiling time (which drives nanoparticle deposition) are needed to obtain substantial CHF enhancement with nanofluids.
