  • Maewol Feldspar Mine produces feldspar ore from pegmatites. K-Rb Age of muscovite is 137.7Ma. Fluid inclusions in quartz crystal of the pegmatite show bimodal distribution of homogenization temperatures. The high homogenization temperatures range from 290 to $302^{\circ}C$ while low homogenization temperatures range from 157 to $195^{\circ}C$. Three phases liquid $CO_2$ bearing inclusions indicate $CO_2$ gases were abundantly mixed with granitic melt until the pegmatic magma melt cooled to $290^{\circ}C$. Low density of the magmatic melt relative to the same volume of granitic magma is due to mixture of volatiles(mainly $CO_2$ gases) with the melt and larger space and slow cooling allowed to grow crystals of the pegmatic magma.

  • A new control volume finite element method is proposed for three dimensional analysis of polymer flow. Tetrahedral finite element is employed and co-located interpolation procedure for pressure and velocity is implemented. Inclusion of pressure gradient term in the velocity shape functions prevents the checkerboard pressure field from being developed. Vectorial nature of pressure gradient is considered in the velocity shape function so that velocity profile in the limit of very small Reynolds number becomes physically meaningful. The proposed method was verified through three dimensional simulation of pipe flow problem for Newtonian and power-law fluid. Calculated pressure and velocity field showed an excellent agreement with analytic solutions for pressure and velocity. Driven-cavity problem, which is reported to yield checkerboard pressure filed when conventional finite element method is applied, could be solved without yielding checkerboard pressure field when the proposed control volume finite element method was applied. The proposed method could be successfully applied to the three dimensional mold filling problem.

  • The skarn type tungsten deposits are developed in the contact aureole of Jurassic biotite-hornblende granodiorite and limestone beds. The latter can be divided into the Great Limestone Series of Joseon System and Gabsan Formation which is correlative to the Hongjeom Series of Pyeongahn System. The skarns are impregnated in the limestone, sandstone, schist and granodiorite, and showing zonal distribution. The five skarn zones are from fresh limestone inwards to wollastonite-skarn, clinopyroxene-skarn, clinopyroxene-garnet skarn, garnet skarn and vesuvianite skarn zone. The ore mineral, scheelite, disseminates in the clinopyroxene-garnet and vesuvianite skarn zone, and the size of the scheelite crystals in vesuvianite skarn zone is larger than in clinopyroxene- garnet skarn zone. According to the mineral paragenesis and the composition of skarn minerals, oxygen fugacity ($fo_2$) is low. Fluid inclusions in quartz comprise much $LCO_2$ and fluid inclusion studies revealed that the homogenization temperatures range $240-290^{\circ}C$.

  • The Xiaoxinancha Cu-Au deposit in the Jilin province, located in NNE 800 km of Beijing, is hosted by diorite. The ore mineralization of Xiaoxinancha Cu-Au deposit show a stockwork occurrence that is concentrated on the potassic and phyllic alteration zones. The Xiaoxinancha Cu-Au deposit in the south is being mined with its reserves grading 0.8% Cu, 3.64 g/t Au and 16.8 g/t Ag and in the north, grading 0.63% Cu, 3.80 g/t Au and 6.8 glt Ag. The alteration assemblage occurs as a supergene blanket over deposit. Hydrothermal alteration at the Xiaoxinancha Cu-Au deposit is centered about the stock and was extensively related to the emplacement of the stock. Early hydrothermal alteration was dominantly potassic and followed by propylitic alteration. Chalcocite, often associated with hematite, account for the ore-grade copper, while chalcopyrite, bornite, quartz, epidote, chlorite and calcite constitute the typical gangue assemblage. Other minor opaque phases include pyrite, marcasite, native gold, electrum, hessite, hedleyite, volynskite, galenobismutite, covellite and goethite. Fluid inclusion data indicate that the formation of this porphyry copper deposit is thought to be a result of cooling followed by mixing with dilute and cooler meteoric water with time. In stage II vein, early boiling occurred at 497$^{\circ}$C was succeeded by the occurrence of halite-bearing type III fluid inclusion with homogenization temperature as much as 100$^{\circ}$C lower. The salinities of type 1II fluid inclusion in stage II vein are 54.3 to 66.9 wt.% NaCI + KCI equiv. at 383$^{\circ}$ to 495$^{\circ}$C, indicating the formation depth less than 1 km. Type I cupriferous fluids in stage III vein have the homogenization temperatures and salinity of 168$^{\circ}$ to 365$^{\circ}$C and 1.1 to 9.0 wt.% NaCI equiv. These fluid inclusions in stage III veins were trapped in quartz veins containing highly fractured breccia, indicating the predominance of boiling evidence. This corresponds to hydrostatic pressure of 50 to 80 bars. The $\delta$$^{34}S$ value of sulfide minerals increase slightly with paragenetic time and yield calculated $\delta$$^{34}S_{H2S}$ values of 0.8 to 3.7$\textperthousand$. There is no mineralogical evidence that fugacity of oxygen decreased, and it is thought that the oxygen fugacity of the mineralizing fluids have been buffered through reaction with magnetite. We interpreted the range of the calculated $\delta$$^{34}S_{H2S}$ values for sulfides to represent the incorporation of sulfur from two sources into the Xiaoxinancha Cu-Au hydrothermal fluids: (1) an isotopically light source with a $\delta$$^{34}S$ value of I to 2$\textperthousand$, probably a Mesozoic granitoid related to the ore mineralization. We can infer from the fact that diorite as the host rock in the Xiaoxinancha Cu-Au deposit area intruded plagiogranite; (2) an isotopically heavier source with a $\delta$$^{34}S$ value of > 4.0$\textperthousand$, probably the local porphyry.

  • Sangdong scheelite deposit is confirmed to have been formed by replacement of limestone beds by metasomatic mineralization. Mineralogical zonal distribution and filling temperatures are related with order of its formation and tungsten mineralization. The first formed garnet-pyroxene zone, left in the margins of the ore body, shows the highest filling temperature of fluid inclusions in pyroxene, averaging $420^{\circ}C$. The central part of the ore body, mainly composed of quartz-mica-scheelite, shows higher fi11ing temperatures of fluid inclusions in quartz, than hornblende-quartz-scheelite zone surrounding the quartz-mica-scheelite zone, averaging $240^{\circ}C$. The distribution of highter filling temperatures above average temperature is applicable to the richest part of scheelite distribution. Generally scheelite shows higher filling temperature by about 20 to $100^{\circ}C$ than quartz in a given sample. The crystallization temperature of the main phase of scheelite deposition is $311^{\circ}C$ at the pressure of 230 to 500 bars at Sangdong area. Gas-rich inclusions in the pyroxene are homogenized into either gas or liquid phase or into both phases in a given crystal of the pyroxene, which suggests boiling at the formation of skarn.

  • Fluid inclusion and stable isotope studies on the Sangdong tungsten skarn have led to a conclusion that the mineralizing fluids might be derived from a magma, which was inferred within 1km below the present Sangdong ore deposit. Mineral assemblages of the skarns appear to have formed under the equilibrium conditions as the fluids flow outward from a central fluid column, in which the quatz-mica occurs dominantly. A characteristic skarn showing mineralogical zonation by repeated over-prints. The quartz-mica zone at the central part of the Sangdong skarns shows the final stage of protracted fluid evolution. Thermodynamic conclusion based on simplified chemical compositions of major components may express quantitatively the conditions of the skarn formation by using diagrams.

  • Tungsten skarn mineralization of the Sangdong mine is localized in the interbedded limestone layers of the Myobong Slate Formation and in the limestone of the Pungchon Limestone Formation of Cambrian age. Fluid inclusion, gas composition and Nd-Sr isotope for granites and skarns have been investigated. Gas compositions show $CO_2$ rich in the Sangdong granite and CH, rich in the Nonggeori and Eopyeong granites. The initial $^{87}Sr/^{86}Sr$ and $^{143}Nd/^{144}Nd$ ratios of the Sangdong granites have 0.714~0.716(${\varepsilon}_{Sr}$=138~162) and 0.51173~0.51178(${\varepsilon}_{Nd}$=-14.4~15.5), respectively. And their two stage model ages range from 1687 to 1764 Ma. The granite characterized by high strontium initial ratios and negative eNd value could have originated from the old continental crust source. Low homogenization temperature of the Sangdong granite having $203{\sim}296^{\circ}C$ with 1.9~9.2 NaCl equiv. wt% indicates the post-magmatic hydrothermal alteration temperature. Skarn ore fluid responsible for tungsten mineralization has been evolved from CH, rich fluid of early pyroxene garnet skarn to $CO_2$ rich later quartz-mica skarn.

  • The gold-silver deposits of the Nakcheon, Eunchi and Jungbong mine in the northern Taebagsan mining district are composed of fissure fil1ing veins emplaced in Precambrian meta-sediments and Jungbongsan granite. Based on the changes of ore texture and mineralogy, ore mineral chemistry, fluid inclusion and mineralizing condition, a regional zoning is recognized from the Nakcheon to the Eunchi and Jungbong ore deposits, and this trend of zoning is also recognized by stable isotope compositions. Stable isotope compositions show that the source of su1fur and carbon is mainly igneous origin, and the water of ore fluid in the Nakcheon ore deposits is mainly magmatic origin but much of meteoric water is involved in ore fluid of the Eunchi and Jungbong ore deposits. The ore deposits of study area is polymetallic meso to epithermal type genetically related to the acidic igneous pluton. Due to the differntial erosion level and mineralized depth, each ore deposits has a slightly different characteristic of mineralization; The Nakcheon ore deposits belong to meso-epithermal type, but the Eunchi and Jungbong ore deposits belong to epithermal type.

  • Effects of dam and weir on the fluid flow and behavior of inclusions in the continuous casting tundish have been studied using the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) technique. Inclusions affecting the quality of steel products have been considered to be passive: the fluid flow has been obtained for unstaggered grid points defined on body-fitted generalized cuvilinear coordinates with no attention on inclusions, and the spatial propagation of inclusions has been determined by using the flow field data. The result show that the dam and weir direct the flow to the free surface and increase the residence time of inclusions significantly, and thereby that inclusions have much more chance to be floated to the free surface of the tundish where it is eliminated. It is also found that they offer more margin on the geometric design of exit nozzles connected to moulds. This finding is particularly important for twin casting operations where the quality of steel products from the two moulds be kept uniformly.

  • The Gwangyang gold deposits geologically consist of granitic gneiss, metatectic gneiss and porphyroblastic gneiss which correspond to Jirisan gneiss complex. The formations of Gyeongsang system lies unconformably on these gneisses and are intruded by diorite, porphyritic andesite and Bulgugsa granites. Goheung districts are composed of quartz schist, andesitic rock, tuff and granite. The Gwangyang gold deposits are gold bearing fissure filling veins. The vein thickness varies from 15cm to 40cm and they consist of 7-10 layers in parallel. The Goheung copper deposits are sulphide bearing quartz veln which filled the fracture in andesitic rock and biotite granite. The contact zone of these rocks is partially altered. The mineral paragenesis of the Gwangyang and Goheung districts is pyrite, arsenopyrite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, galena, sericite, quartz and calcite. The variation trends of FMA and A'KF triangular diagrams and the differentiation index (norm, Q + Or + Ab) versus oxides diagrams is similar to the Gyeonsang basin igneous rocks. From the trace element analysis of 10 samples of country rocks, wall rocks and veins, the distribution of copper and lead contents display a correlative distribution pattern in relation to gold and silver. Homogenization temperature of fluid inclusions range from $200^{\circ}C$ to $270^{\circ}C$ in quartz from the Gwangyang gold vein and the size of fluid inclusion range from 0.01mm to 0.04mm. The fluid inclusions are mainly one or two phase and the filling degree of the inclusions varies from 85 to 95.
